CHUCK ROGÉR: NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SIENCES LOSES ALL CREDIBILITY ON GLOBAL WARMING

No "global warming" in a decade-and-a-half and cooling for seven to nine years? Oh, and CO2 increases only after the atmosphere warms? Yes, in six studies covering 650,000 years of data, CO2 was found to rise only after temperatures rose. So unless we can say with a straight face that the dead terrorist on the ground caused Jack Bauer to appear with a .45 caliber Glock, warmists are given pause, but not for long. Reality briefly stuns but never terribly influences warmists.

Let's say that humankind's industrial CO2 actually will raise the average atmospheric temperature. How much will the increase be? About a fifth of a degree Celsius by the year 2100.

Science that's put forward by objective scientists can do wonders. Yet the ideologues at the National Academy of Sciences believe that "the science" says, "We really need to get started right away." Get started doing what? Why, crippling the world economy in order to put a stop to a natural climate phenomenon, of course.

One NAS scientist, Pamela Matson, claims that rising temperatures, disappearing ice caps, and ocean rises will result in water and food scarcity, heat waves, and intense rainfall. Except for the food and water shortages, Matson's alarmism actually rather describes my home state of Louisiana in the summertime.

The NAS has again come out in agreement with the soundly-discredited U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in claiming that human-induced warming is already happening. There is simply zero proof for the claim. But truth never bothers the ideologue. The NAS contends that human-caused global warming is occurring and "poses significant risks for--and in many cases is already affecting--a broad range of human and natural systems." The shrill and baseless hysterics would be laughable, what with the Climategate scandal in which warmists were exposed as liars and exaggerators for the purpose of making it appear that humans cause global warming.

As I said, the hysterics would be laughable, but if Congress acts or Obama wields the executive order pen or the EPA unilaterally does something idiotic to implement "carbon taxes" or "cap-and-trade" on carbon-intensive energy sources, then the U.S. would have to revert to mid-1800s lifestyles to actually comply with the resulting laws.

The NAS is a terminally flawed organization, an assemblage of ideological activists. For example, NAS members come from such dogmatic leftwing groups as the World Wildlife Fund, the John Heinz III Center, and the Carnegie Institution of Washington. According to the Heartland Institute, the organizations are "all partisan and largely discredited groups that nevertheless form the core of the National Academy of Sciences panel" that has come out with the hysterical statements.

The NAS panel is chaired by a staunch global warmist, the same Pamela Matson quoted above. Matson has long pushed global warming dogma and actually defended the Climategate scoundrels in a letter to Congress. Again from Heartland:

When our federal government funds partisan, closed-minded reports compiled by activists representing only one side of a controversial issue, it is no wonder the federal government has lost the trust and respect of everyday citizens.

Indeed. And the NAS should not be trusted again unless it is purged of partisan alarmists. Anyone calmly examining the real science in an objective manner would come to a sad conclusion: The NAS is no longer about science.
