CHUCK ROGÉR: THUGGISH TEACHERS’ UNIONS AND YOUR TAX DOLLARS

Let's do a little exercise.

Your employer pays you. With part of the income, you pay your property, sales, and income taxes. Part of the taxes go to pay teachers' salaries. Part of the teachers' salaries--whether the teachers like it or not--is forcibly extracted before the teachers even see the money. The extracted money gets funneled to teachers' unions, which then use the money to bolster campaigns which invariably come down on the left side of the political spectrum.

Oh-oh, what's happening here?

Well, what's happening is that anyone who pays practically any tax is being forced to contribute to leftwing causes.

Case in point:

An epic battle with teachers' unions is what New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has on his hands. But the Republican's gripe is not with the teachers. The problem lies in union scamming. Christie said:

My argument is not with teachers in New Jersey. My argument is with a union who collects $730 a year from every teacher and school employee in the union in mandatory dues. And if you don’t want to join the union here’s your option: you can be out. You pay 85% of $730 … to be out. It’s like the Hotel California. You can check in anytime you like but you can never leave. That raises for the teachers union, get ready, $130 million a year. What do they spend that money on? … $6 million in negative advertising against me since March 16th. Think about that. That’s a little over two months they have spent $6 million on New York TV and Radio, Philadelphia TV and radio to attack me. That’s dues money that is coming from their teachers, mandatory no choice, and from all of you because those salaries come from your property taxes and your state income taxes.

Unless Americans begin electing libertarian-minded politicians to offices at all levels, the government-media-teacher-union style complicity discussed by Christie will only grow worse. The complicity has been occurring for some time. Teachers' unions, particularly the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers, have been gaining thuggish political power to infuse cultural Marxism into school curricula for decades.

The best way to stop the thugs? De-fund the unions. Vote down union-backed property, sales, and income tax initiatives. Vote in school vouchers and other school choice initiatives.
