DENNIS PATRICK: BITS AND PIECES OF THE PASSING SCENE
Observe the passing scene. It is evident the world is becoming more weird by the day. Here is a glimpse
Fellas! Have you seen the new “short suit?” This contemporary fashion statement is comprised of a regular suit coat with white shirt and tie – and short pants that resemble cutoffs. The suit retails for around $400 at outlets including J. Crew, Topman and Barney’s.
This past June the Food and Drug Administration ordered all cheese makers to stop using wooden boards on which to age their cheese. The technique has been practiced for centuries by artisans of non-processed cheese. No matter. FDA baroness Monica Metz came down with an executive decree banning the cheese boards. So what if her decree was without legal merit. After furious complaints from cheese enthusiasts and producers the FDA temporarily halted the bureaucratic assault. But this is only a pause in the onslaught of federal bullying.
Jack Phillips, the cake artist facing legal action because he declined to design a wedding cake for a same-sex ceremony in 2012, has filed a notice of appeal with the Colorado Civil Rights Commission. On May 30 the commission upheld the December ruling by an administrative law judge that Phillips had discriminated against the couple based on sexual orientation. The commission’s order not only required Phillips to design cakes for same-sex ceremonies but to institute RE-EDUCATION CLASSES for his staff and to file quarterly compliance reports for two years. Phillips does not believe he should participate in a homosexual “wedding” ceremony and that is exactly what he is doing when he applies hours of artistry to design a cake. His appeal states he would be pleased to provide other baked goods. In like manner, Phillips does not design cakes for Halloween celebrations because he chooses not to participate in what he believes is a pagan holiday.
Re-education? I thought the evil empire had disappeared!
Barney Frank is free, free indeed. He no longer must worry about elections and party politics and is free to speak his mind. And speak it he did. Breitbart News cites him as saying he was “appalled” at President Obama for lying to Americans as he rammed Obamacare through Congress. The Huffington Post quotes the former chairman of the House Financial Services Committee as saying, “The rollout was so bad, and I was appalled – I don’t understand how the president could have sat there and not been checking on that on a weekly basis….But frankly, he should never have said as much as he did, that if you like your current health care plan, you can keep it. That wasn’t true. And you shouldn’t lie to people. And they just lied to people.”
But, Congressman Frank voted for Obamacare just the same.
Leftists scorned people who warned us that recognizing the marriage of homosexual couples was the beginning of a slippery slope. “The Washington Times” now confirms that, in fact, the left has slipped down the slope. The “Times” reports the world’s first “throuple.” Doll, Kitten and Brynn Young are now a married threesome from (drum roll, please) Massachusetts. Virtue Online is quoted as saying, “They worked with a specialist lawyer who drew up the paperwork and drafted the ceremony so that all three of them are obligated and bound to each other.” They plan to have three children, one for each of them. Kitten is already pregnant.
And a few doozey quotes just for the record….
As somebody said to me yesterday, either people have gotten tired of Benghazi or they never knew about it in the first place.” – Nancy Pelosi calling the Benghazi investigation a “diversionary tactic” as cited in Heritage.org.
“Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi! Why aren’t we talking about something else?” -- Nancy Pelosi press conference quoted by Hot Air.
“I would like to point out Ambassador Stevens was not murdered. He died of smoke inhalation…” -- Eleanor Clift as quoted on “The McLaughlin Group.”
“I’m in L.A….meeting with writers of various TV shows and movies to try to get it [Obamacare] into the scripts. We’re talking to celebrities. We’re talking to athletes, because obviously they get injured a lot and many of them are the same age as the market we’re going after….I’m really a good nag.” – Valerie Jarrett as quoted in “The Weekly Standard.”
Meanwhile, congressmen and senators have returned home on vacation to win your hearts and minds in order to win your vote in November. Let’s see if the “throw the bums out” sentiment holds until the election.
