DENNIS PATRICK: CONSIDERING TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. So states the second paragraph of our Declaration of Independence.
It is apparent that some have no problem re-imposing tyranny by denying Americans their pursuit of happiness in their daily lives. Their requirement for societal compliance to their ideals outweighs the pursuit of happiness of others. Beware social change agents!
We all live in the here and now. We cannot do otherwise. To constantly dredge up wrongs of the past (which most of us have never experienced in this life), especially instances that have been addressed and dealt with, or to project gloom and doom for our future lives (which we have not yet lived) is totally unhealthy. Building crises and creating fear, generating pessimism and focusing on negativism may be a psychological tactic of some. But it is coin of the realm for the Left. The last thing they want is for people to be happy and content with their lives. That is no way to run a revolution. The Left is here to cure society’s ills one way or another. The dystopian behavior they exhibit along with their media lackeys and some Never Trump Republicans has been dubbed Trump Derangement Syndrome.
This term may be traced to psychiatrist Charles Krauthammer in 2003 when he coined the term “Bush Derangement Syndrome” during President George W. Bush’s term in office. The syndrome was defined as “the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, presidency – nay – the very existence of George W. Bush.” Krauthammer later defined “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (he was no supporter of Trump) as a Trump-induced “general hysteria” among the chattering classes producing an “inability to distinguish between legitimate policy differences and signs of psychic pathology in the President’s behavior.”
The syndrome has also been defined as “hatred of President Trump so intense that it impairs people’s judgment.” It is referred to as “blind hatred of those who preach tolerance.” To be sure, it reflects the increased polarization within American society.
Is this normal behavior? Not according to some psychiatrists and psychologists. Appearing on the RTV network, psychologist Nancy Colier answered a question dealing with those who, in the extreme, don’t approve of President Trump’s job performance, words, actions, him personally – or his family and cabinet. “…Anger does not lead to happiness. Anger leads to stress... So we don’t get happy when we’re hating. We don’t get happy when it’s us against the other. More hate does not make us well. And it does not make us happy…” She continues, “…[N]ot only the rage that’s being fomented and worked, not only the climate [change] insecurity, not only the – everywhere you look somebody is being blown up about some reason for hate. Right? But none of this works. So we’ve got to get back to some sanity.”
And, of course, Trump eggs on the liberal left and media. He goads, he teases, and he trolls. Humorless, they (especially the media) fall for his bait every time.
Trump is a huge danger to the postmodern progressive world. He effectively discredits and renders irrelevant their progressive ideas. That world, for example, sees the European Union as a better model for governing America than is the US Constitution. The media, in league with progressivism, cannot allow a rouge reactionary like Trump to stand in the way.
Trump has flushed out his adversaries and their ideas showing them up for who they are – out of touch with a majority of Americans. In doing so, he has been bloodied but is far from out. If he wins the 2020 election, and there is high probability he will, his one-man crusade to save America from the progressive project and the change agents will succeed. The 2020 Democrat candidates know it. When Trump wins in 2020, the Democrat Party may eventually recover but it will have to make some very major adjustments back towards the middle of society. The Party may well be unrecognizable.
There are so many adversaries aligned against Trump. But he has one very major advantage. Those who are blinded by hatred beyond reason really do suffer from a mental health issue. For Trump’s sake, it will be their undoing.
At heart, aside from his persona and actions, Trump is a patriot putting America above all else in the world.
One wag attempted eloquence. “Sometimes a country needs a Mother Teresa and sometime it needs a Dirty Harry.”
The inept political Ruling Class, both Democrat and Republican, liberal and conservative, has earned for itself, and America, a Dirty Harry.
