How peculiar that the United States and Canada still hold faith in multiculturalism while Europeans move to end their love affair with this harmful fad.

Leaders across the Atlantic find multiculturalism a total failure. Hear their comments.

British Prime Minister David Cameron: “State multiculturalism has had disastrous results.”

French President Nicolas Sarkoszy: When asked if multiculturalism is a failure, responded, “My answer is clearly yes, it is a failure.”

German Chancellor Angela Merkel: In a recent speech she openly stated that multiculturalism has “totally failed.”

Ex-Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Maria Aznar, declared multiculturalism a failure in Spain. He claims it divides and debilitates western culture.

These politicians are not out in front of their people. As usual they lag behind waiting to see how the winds of fortune may blow. In truth, Europeans are fed up with multiculturalism in a big way and have spoken to the politicians.

Multiculturalism supports the idea of co-existence between distinct and separate ethnic cultures within the same nation. The alternative, predating multiculturalism, supports assimilation of ethnic groups into a single homogeneous national identity.

Here is the reality in Europe. Several anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim political parties arose in recent years from the middle class and are drawing off voters. These new political parties attracted workers from the socialist parties and nationalists from the conservatives.

Two points stand out. First, with regard to Muslim immigrants, multiculturalism was never demanded by immigrants themselves, at least not initially. It was demanded by intellectual liberal elites.

Second, as a faith, Islam itself is anti-multicultural. Practicing Muslims do not share multicultural values. They certainly do not believe all religions are equal. The homosexual and libertine lifestyles earn the death penalty by stoning. Islamic “honor killings” of daughters, sisters, wives and mothers, even in the US, purportedly restore a family’s sullied reputation. Islam abides no tolerance for freedom of speech when toying with Mohammed. Islam strongly discourages Western attire for women. The list of intolerances goes on. Multiculturalism may be called tolerance for the intolerant.

Each European country can recite their own nightmarish experience with multiculturalism. France, in particular, identified and labeled 751 “No Go” zones within its borders. These “sensitive urban zones” are too dangerous for whites and non-Muslims to enter. Multiculturalist policies fostered these Muslim enclaves. French-born citizens living in these enclaves feel like islands inside occupied territory.

In 2009 Switzerland voted to ban minarets. Backers claimed that Muslims don’t just practice their religion. The minaret became a symbol of political power comparable to the burqa representing forced marriage and genital mutilation of girls.

The Swiss perception is not unreasonable. They point to the current Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who compared Mosques to Islam’s military barracks and “the minarets our bayonets.” Last week, speaking in Germany, he urged Turks not to assimilate.

Europe’s years of experience shows that multiculturalism has not lived up to its claims. It did not create the panacea of a harmonious society celebrating diversity. In stead, Europe’s experience proved multiculturalism to be destructive of the host society while preserving and isolating the perpetrating culture.

America cannot afford the ill effects of multiculturalism. It undermines the values of liberal education through ethnic studies. It attacks America’s identity with Western Civilization and denies existence of an American culture. It derides the concept of patriotism and creates ghettos. It maintains itself in power by imaginary claims of moral superiority, regulatory policies, taxation and proponency through academia.

America should learn from Europe’s experience and the sooner the better. We should hasten the demise of multiculturalism.
