DENNIS PATRICK: DISTRUSTING THE ELITIST MEDIA
Mainstream media, left wing media, corporate media or big media – these are different names for the same elitist press that regards itself equivalent to the fourth branch of government. This pertains to CBS, NBC, ABC, CNBC, NPR, PBS, New York Times, LA Times, Chicago Times and a slew of others.
Corporate media is no longer involved in journalism as once known. It clearly aligns with the liberal establishment whoever the politician or candidate or whatever the cause might be.
Wikileaks e-mails clearly demonstrate what many have suspected for years. The liberal media collaborates directly with liberal politicians, candidates and causes. The leaked e-mails explicitly show the collaboration between Hillary Clinton and the corporate media. Over 12,000 e-mails have been released in nine installments. Another 38,000 are due to be released before Election Day. The corporate media has given scant attention to the e-mail release much less to their contents.
Corporate media no longer “holds truth to power” as the saying goes. Once it meant that powerful people and organizations, especially government, deserved watching. Government would be held to a special accountability. That would be the job of what was called the Fourth Estate – the media. The Founding Fathers granted the press special constitutional responsibilities for the express purpose of imposing accountability on government.
But, the corporate media no longer holds the government accountable to the people. Today, the corporate media exists to defend the state. The mainstream media regards itself as part of the state, the unelected fourth branch of government. The allure is the power that goes along with being part of the state and the bigger the government, the greater their power. The media is no longer suspicious, curious, doubtful or distrustful of government. They see themselves as part of it.
Most “journalists” in the mainstream media have a “disposition” problem. They think of themselves as nonpartisan watchdogs when in fact they are partisan to the core supporting liberal candidates and causes. The corporate media are filled with Democrat operatives posing as journalists.
For decades America has been lied to, manipulated and set up by the big media. The big media has become the defender and protector of liberal and leftist administrations – and when necessary, moderate Republican officials and administrations.
Except for entertainment value, why would anyone consume the news as reported by the corporate media realizing that they are biased in favor of one candidate or cause over another? Obviously, the corporate media are no longer the honest brokers that they claim to be.
Wikileaks demonstrates without a doubt the collusion between the Clinton campaign, Wall Street and the corporate media. Add to the mix Clinton’s use of an unauthorized private e-mail server from her home as Secretary of State. Through that server she transmitted highly classified information. There is plenty of news material here without the need for rigorous investigative reporting. Wikileaks also shows how the mainstream media is more than willing to assist Clinton in her bid for power and how it dovetails nicely with their desire for the same.
There has been little or no coverage or even intellectual curiosity by big media about the Wikileaks e-mail dump or the FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton. Instead, unreported stories manufactured for the campaign about Donald Trump’s alleged sexual improprieties with women without evidence within three weeks of the November elections receive non-stop top billing without question, skepticism or doubt by the mainstream media. How convenient is that?
On the other hand, women sexually abused by Bill Clinton and smeared by Hillary as she protected her husband’s infidelities cannot get the time of day with the mainstream media. No coverage at all.
Aside from complaining, what can be done? First, ignore the corporate media. Consumption isn’t worth the time, effort or frustration. Second, do not accept the reporting without question. Do not accept their premise and do not form an opinion based on their spin. Third, (this requires a little proactive effort) find alternative news sources outside the mainstream media. A brief and far from exhaustive list includes: websites (Breitbart, Heritage Foundation, Gateway Pundit, Infowars); magazines (Weekly Standard, National Review, Claremont Review of Books, First Things, Commentary); and Radio/TV (Fox News, Fox Business).
Whatever course of action is adopted, remember that the mainstream media betrayed the public trust long ago.
