DENNIS PATRICK: KILLING OF AMERICA

Everyone knows by now that President Trump took over police operations in Washington, DC. Some approve; some don’t. Trump warned that this clean-up is “all going to happen very fast, just like the Border.” His move to crack down on crime in Washington, DC, officially activated as of 12 a.m. on Friday, August 8.

The White House put over a dozen federal law enforcement agencies on the streets of D.C., including the Drug Enforcement Administration, the FBI, and U.S. Park Police. According to the White House, the operation would last a week, but it could be extended. Agencies will focus their attention on places like Union Station.

“Local ‘youths and gang members, some only 14, 15, and 16-years-old, are randomly attacking, mugging, maiming, and shooting innocent Citizens, at the same time knowing that they will be almost immediately released,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

Rachel del Guidice of FOX News offered inclusive reporting on Jeanine Pirro’s recent news conference commenting on Trump’s action. Jeanine Pirro, US Attorney for DC, shut down reporters who questioned Trump’s DC crime crackdown at a Department of Justice (DOJ) press conference Tuesday, August 12. She defended Trump’s administration federalizing the city's police force to combat crime. During the press conference a reporter challenged Pirro about DOJ’s cuts to gun violence prevention resources. "Oh, stop it," Pirro said. "We are putting all kinds of resources onto the street."

Pirro unabashedly schooled the media during the press conference referencing Trump’s Monday announcement that he would be taking control of DC's Metropolitan Police Department and deploying 800 National Guard troops to the nation's capital.

Another reporter pointed out the reduced DC crime rates, asking "what changed?" Turning the tables on the reporter Pirro said, "... This changed. This changed," she said, pointing to posters showing photos of people who have been murdered in DC. "You tell these families, ‘Crime has dropped.’ You tell the mother of the intern who was shot going out for McDonald's near the Washington Convention Center, ‘Oh, crime is down.’"

On June 30, Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, a 21-year-old student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, who was interning for Rep. Ron Estes, R-Kan., was shot in a drive-by shooting in which he was not the target. He died in the hospital on July 1.

Pirro also mentioned the beating of former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employee Edward Coristine (“Big Balls”) on Aug. 3, by two teenagers who now face charges of unarmed carjacking. "You tell the kid who was just beat the hell and back (sic) with a severe concussion and a broken nose, ‘Crime is down,’" Pirro said. "No, that falls on deaf ears and my ears are deaf to that and that's why I fight the fight!"

Other cities keep company with Washington, DC when it comes to murder rates. And don’t be fooled by reported declines. Killing marches on in unsafe cities.

In 2024, there were 382 homicides in New York City according to city data.

In 2024, there were 573 homicides in Chicago, down from 620 the previous year according to Chicago Police.

In Baltimore, there were 201 homicides in 2024, a decline from 261 in 2023, according to the Baltimore Police.

Detroit recorded 203 homicides in 2024, down 19% from the previous year, according to the Detroit Police.

Homicides in Philadelphia fell to 269 in 2024 from 410 the previous year in the City of Brotherly Love.

On TV news I watched protesters demonstrating against police reinforcements in Washington, DC. Are these people nuts?! Do they really want to keep the high crime rate in their city? Or are they out-of-town paid demonstrators creating political theater hired by Crowds on Demand, RentaCrowd, or CrowdHire? The George Soros Open Society Foundations and their ilk are known to fund such organizations.

Jargon describes the use of paid demonstrators. “Astroturfing” is the practice of creating the illusion of broad grassroots support by hiring people to take part in protests or campaigns. “Guerrilla Marketing” denotes unconventional tactics including staged events or flash mobs.

The Babylon Bee responded with tongue in cheek: “Police are trampling on the rights of hardworking carjackers and muggers. True freedom means never being arrested.”

            Or so it seems!
