DENNIS PATRICK: QUOTES - DUMB AND DUMBER
Without fail, perusing the news will always reveal political quotes generating some irreverent humor. Try these.
“Stop bein’ mad all the time. Stop, stop, stop this – hatin’ all the time. C’mon.” (Kansas City Star, July 30, 2014). This was President Obama’s response in Kansas City last July to a US House resolution authorizing a lawsuit against Obama for exceeding his constitutional authority while implementing Obamacare.
So, was it an act of love when Obama lied to Americans and the very people he was speaking to: “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor; if you like your insurance plan you can keep your insurance plan”? Was it an act of love when Obama turned the IRS loose on the Teaparty and other “enemies?” Was it an act of love when Obama presided over the Fast and Furious gun-running operation resulting in the death of an American border agent?
At the Waldorf Astoria in Chicago on July 24, 2014, Michelle Obama said the following before the Democrat National Committee, “We need you to write the biggest, fattest check that you can possibly write. I kid you not….That’s what we need you to do right now.” (Chicago Sun-Times, July 25, 2014). What the Times omitted – but Fox News reported – was that at the same gathering Michelle also bemoaned the fact that “So, yeah, there is too much money in politics.” So, my dear, which is it? You can’t have it both ways.
Here is one of the dumber quotes: “Is Hillary Clinton the True Heir of Ronald Reagan?” This is the actual title from a story in Salon.com on August 2, 2014. It doesn’t even deserve a comment.
On September 11 (an ominous date), 2014, President Obama stated clearly and in context (as reported in the Washington Post) that “ISIL is not Islamic.” You could have fooled me. Bill Clinton would have set the record straight. “That depends on what the meaning of ISIS is.
“Whenever we can, we follow the law.” That from none other than John Koskinen, IRS Commissioner testifying before the House Ways and Means Committee on September 10, 2014. (in The Hill). Try that line of reasoning with the IRS and see how far it gets you.
“Hard drive crashes continue as we speak.” Again, Koskinen, the IRS Chief explaining away the loss of all Lois Lerner’s e-mails and backups at a House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee hearing on Capitol Hill on September 17, 2014. (in The Daily Caller). Another excuse you should avoid in any defense against the IRS.
Prior to the November 2014 elections Nancy Pelosi offered a quotable quote in the form of a prognostication: “Civilization as we know it today would be in jeopardy if the Republicans win the Senate.” (in The Daily Caller, September 12, 2014). Civilizations like Chicago, Detroit and any Democrat-run city? Republicans, in fact, did win the Senate but behave as if they are scared to death to take charge like winners!
Before the November 2014 elections, Obama was hard on the fundraising trail. If ever there was a connection typifying the association between the liberal Democrats in Hollywood and the liberal Democrats in the White House, this is a prime example. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow hosted a fundraiser for the Democrat National Committee at her Brentwood, California home featuring Barack Obama. Here are her sycophantic words. “It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man [Obama] all of the power that he needs to pass the things that he needs to pass.” She concluded her adulating remarks with “You’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly.” (in pjmedia.com October 10, 2014). Brilliant!
Finally, here is one for the books. Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton speaking at Georgetown University said the following regarding jihadists, “This is what we call smart power…showing respect even for one’s enemies. Trying to understand, insofar as psychologically possible, empathize with their perspective and point of view.” She was alluding to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in the southern Philippines, a group more akin to their fellow jihadists in the Middle East than any other group. (on FoxNews.com, December 5, 2014). Do we really want her as leader of America in a dangerous world?
