Why do liberals, both Democrats and RINOs (Republicans in Name Only), invariably choose totalitarian solutions to treat real or imagined economic, social and political issues? Don’t they realize Americans resent authoritarian rule?

Liberals and their kind tax to punish, withhold funds to coerce and award money to entice. Look at the list.

Environment (going “Green”): Liberals play God in a conceited, utopian way. They dictate behavior forcing people to “make a difference” by believing they can change the environment.

Autos: By law and with subsidies, liberals force car manufacturers to produce cars no one really wants. Liberals demand CAFE standards and push electric cars and hybrids on the public.

Alternative energy: By law and through subsidies, liberals force inefficient and uneconomical solar and wind energy and biofuels on a skeptical public.

Health: Liberals require a few people pay for everyone else’s health care and medication. They make private insurance unaffordable to employers thereby forcing employees into a “public option” against their will.

Firearms: Liberals compel a ban on firearms in spite of the Second Amendment. In the name of public safety liberals maintain that no one should own a gun for their own protection.

Speech: Speech codes in schools and the workplace restrict freedom of expression banning what liberals consider offensive or insensitive language. Violations result in sensitivity training reminiscent of communist “re-education” sessions. Taken one step further, laws singling out so-called “hate speech” mandate increased court penalties on perpetrators who express themselves inappropriately when committing violations.

Diet: Under the rubric of “healthy eating” liberals impose dietary restrictions on consumption of meat, salt, fat and sugar that people were formerly free to choose.

Religious expression: Liberals prohibit religious expression selectively, especially Christian expression, in the public square. Witness the attacks on Christmas and on Christian symbols and words by schools and governments.

Czars: The White House sidesteps the democratic process by appointing czars who are not confirmed by the Senate as are cabinet secretaries. Nevertheless, czars implement policy, exercise oversight and spend taxpayer dollars.

These examples illustrate authoritarian rule by governing against the will of the people.

Predictably, liberals come up short in the area of ideas. They never campaign on what they truly believe. Voters wouldn’t stand for it. For this reason they reveal their true nature by enacting coercive laws and policies after they are in power.

When liberals can’t win at the ballot box or through legislation they try to win by force through the courts.

A teaspoon of sugar helps the medicine go down. Listen carefully to radio and TV commercials. Many are co-sponsored and paid for by federal agencies including USDA, HHS, DHS, FBI and Library of Congress to name a few. American tax dollars are used for public indoctrination.

Adding insult to injury, watch liberals show their true colors when they accommodate foreign dictators. They’re prone to coddle rather than confront.

Liberals think in terms of safety nets which inevitably serve only to ensnare the common man. Americans end up with a multiplicity of laws and regulations restricting the many to benefit the few.

No wonder our forefathers chose limited government. The bigger the government the more meddlesome the protagonists and the less efficient the results. The so-called “Greatest Generation” knew that. When did we lose our way?

I don’t know why liberals have a penchant for employing totalitarian solutions to treat economic, social and political issues. Maybe they’re power hungry. Maybe they wish to lord power over others.

But, I do know this. Liberals include both Democrats and RINOs and they’re prone to behave in totalitarian ways.

Enough already! Let freedom ring!
