DENNIS PATRICK: VIRUS AND TRYING MEN’S SOULS

“These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.” So enjoined Thomas Paine in The Crisis penned December 23, 1776. These words are as valid today as in America’s early upheaval. Fight is in our DNA!

 

I received a video last week discussing the outbreak in China of the coronavirus and its transference between species. The video, produced by Vox news website, may be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPpoJGYlW54. I forwarded the video to some friends and a few chose to comment. One, a retired Army Colonel, grew up on a Midwestern farm and was familiar with wasting disease in deer and tularemia in rabbits. Milk maids had contracted cowpox and were less susceptible to smallpox. This observation led to a vaccine for smallpox.

 

Another individual, an old friend who acquired his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, had explicit observations. He was able to validate the Vox video.

 

During his career my friend worked for the US Department of Agriculture and was specially trained as Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician (FADD). He has been dispatched nationally and internationally to a variety of locations to ensure the US public health and the safety of the US food supply. In several phone calls he elaborated on his knowledge and experiences.

 

My friend’s views on US public health and the protection of the US food supply was influenced in part by a book titled Cowboy Ethics by James P. Owen. In few words, the book stresses the point that behavior generates an end product whether on the range or on Wall Street. Both venues require ethics in doing business. The cowboy’s ethics should reign.

 

The world around us is not nearly as placid as some environmentalists would have us believe. Untold and unseen varieties of microbes including viruses and bacteria surround us every day. Viruses, for example, infect new hosts all the time. They need living tissue to replicate. The host, in effect, becomes slave to the virus. Deny a virus the host and the virus dies. In their own unpremeditated struggle to survive, viruses on occasion cross species infecting a different population of hosts. The absence of major diseases in the US is not accidental. Sanitation levels directly correlate to education levels. Different cultures with varying emphases on education result in different levels of sanitation. It is not pejorative to say that the Orient has been a breeding ground for virus-borne diseases. Consequently, viruses upon which vaccines are designed to produce immunity are harvested in the Orient the year before.

 

There are many moving parts to the current coronavirus pandemic – some would say “planned-demic.” A particular topic the electronic media shies away from for fear of being labeled as “conspiracy theorists” is the roll of Communist China and their reticence to be transparent. The American Thinker website offered an interesting take on the coronavirus in a 3/16/2020 article titled Did China Panic the World and Steal Our Wealth with a Common Cold? It turned out to be far more serious than a common cold.

 

The World Health Organization (WHO) is all but useless confronting the Wuhan Flu. WHO is both demonstratively corrupt and an ally of China. In December 2019 Taiwanese warned WHO that the virus was spreading through human-to-human contact. Two weeks after Taiwan’s warning, WHO, complicit with China’s Xinhua News Agency, stated there was no evidence this was the case. WHO argued against restricting international air travel. Meanwhile, the Chinese government destroyed samples of the virus, shut down labs, arrested doctors, and rejected US assistance.

 

Last week, Chinese propaganda under the guise of “news” promulgated the story that the US Army infected the city of Wuhan with the coronavirus. When the US government denounced the story China threatened to withhold the US pharmaceutical supply.

 

The majority of pharmaceuticals procured by the US are manufactured by Communist China or by US companies operating in China subject to Chinese Communist government regulations. This production arrangement obviously compromises American independence and security. Corrective action is already being taken in the form of new and revised trade arrangements with China. Tighter restrictions producing pharmaceutical independence, like energy independence, will follow.

 

The Presidential Task Force is following the same protocol (Incident Command System) as followed in other disasters such as 911 and the Task Force is doing superb work. Beyond question, the greatest damage caused by the Chinese Wuhan Flu will be inflicted on the US economy fueled by jaundiced “news” coverage. However, the US is poised, sooner than later, for a booming recovery.
