Did they (the fugitives) think they were in Barney Fife country?
Stark County attitudes were HAPPY-FACED in June when local law enforcement captured four fugitives from Alabama in a shootout near Dickinson. Locals especially noted how the gang had eluded officers in many states. The Bismarck Tribune even chortled, “Did they (the fugitives) think they were in Barney Fife country?” In July, the smiles were gone. Two fugitives were wounded and their round-the-clock security and medical costs threaten to upset the Stark County budget. Confinement and prosecution costs lie ahead. Stark County wants financial help: Dickinson, Alabama, Barney Fife . . . somebody?
