GARY EMINETH: REVIVAL
I recently heard a message from a pastor on revival. It prompted me to think of the political opportunity before both parties this election cycle.
Revival definition: an improvement in the condition or strength of something. I am thinking of a revival in the fortunes of the country or political parties. It’s what we all should be thinking after the Republican National Convention.
With everything that happened on that stage, one may have written things differently than the way the polls actually report. Presenting with Biden’s dismal performance at the first Presidential debate followed by the shocker in Butler, PA; a rational person or even a modestly engaged observer might have come to the logical conclusion that Biden needed to go.
But even that took some time and lots of pressure because the polls were still trending in his favor prior to the GOP convention! After he finally capitulated and turned his candidacy over to Harris with his most enthusiastic endorsement, the female version of O’bama-lite took over and Biden went back to serve as President.
Essentially, he obeyed the powers that be (your guess is as good as mine on that one). From the outset, something or somebody seemed to understand something the Republican Party doesn’t—maybe it could be a bestseller. You pick the title. “How to Win an Election When All the Odds are Not in Your Favor”, or “How Race, Gender and A Sick Sense of Humor Trumps Qualification, Experience and Competency” I could go on, but obviously I am perplexed by the whole fiasco.
A better question might be, “Who are the people the pollsters are polling and why do we seem so out of touch?” After the gargantuan effort to pull off a convention like the Republicans did in Milwaukee—one which succeeded (or so it seems) in making all Trump’s former rivals and outspoken critics his staunchest supporters. Some of them were fairly convincing perhaps a bit disingenuous…but convincing!
At the end of the day, even Tucker Carlson sounded different. His unscripted message to the audience seemed real at the time—I quote: “After Butler, everything was different. Trump was different. We were different…”
For a few moments, Republicans seemed more willing to enlist Reagan’s 80-20 rule—we didn’t have to agree on everything to be a united front against the opposition.
While the democrats appear to be in the midst of their own revival; time will tell if it is as real as the Republicans.
I believe this is the most significant and consequential election of my lifetime. I may have said this before, but this time I really mean it.
If we elect Harris as President, this country will not be the same as the one you were fortunate enough to live in. She will go to war with anyone on multiple fronts, who looks, thinks, or talks like you do. Like her mentor before her she loudly declares what she plans to do, and her actions speak louder than her words.
