LYNN BERGMAN: AFFORDABLE AND AGREEABLE CLIMATE SOLUTIONS

Practical solutions to one of the most contentious issues of our time have been ignored by those who believe they alone know what’s best for the rest of us. These partisans have posited the choice as either a free market driven fossil fuel economy or a central planned replacement of fossil fuels by other energy sources. Generations of school children have been taught that fossil fuels are destroying the planet and mankind is to blame.

A solution has been offered by a pioneer in meteorology, predictive modeling, extreme weather, and long-range forecasting, Mr. Joe Bastardi, as follows:

  1. Plant Trees

Studies show that planting enough trees around the globe – enough to fill Canada – would offset the CO2 increase, no matter the cause.

  1. Embrace Nuclear Power

Even James Hansen, one of the prime drivers of the man-made global warming narrative, agrees that we can build safe nuclear power plants and that we can figure out a way to dispose of nuclear waste. This may be the only way that politicians can actually have a positive influence. Salt caverns located in numerous southwestern states are the preferred method of nuclear waste storage. If each of these states allow the NIMBYs [Not In My Back Yard] to prevail, this part of the solution will fail to be implemented. If this element yields a continued cultural war on nuclear power, it may fail; but let the voters decide, not the politicians.

  1. Implement Carbon Capture

I am personally invested in this aspect of a solution. My investment in Red Trail Energy in Richardton, ND ago will result in the sequestering of carbon dioxide early in 2022 and the coal gasification plant in Beulah, ND is embarked on a similar venture. The fossil fuel industry understands that voluntary carbon capture projects are far preferrable to centrally planned government directives.

  1. Further Economic Measures that are Consumer Driven

This initiative will prevent the destruction of the world economy by well meaning over-reactive politicians by letting consumers decide how quickly the marketplace will gradually replace the use of fossil fuels. For example, the purchase of an expensive electric vehicle that goes 250 miles before a required 8-hour charge of its batteries and allows another 100 miles of driving after a 35-minute quick charge… in warm weather… is, for most, not an option in the northern plains. And a third of the electricity for re-charging of electric vehicles comes from coal. Federal funding of charging stations throughout the country would likely represent the most egregious government over-reach in U.S. history. Comparing such a fiasco to the Interstate Highway program of the Eisenhour administration is ludicrous. About one in five Electric Vehicle owners return to gasoline or diesel powered vehicles after experiencing ownership of an EV.

For the unconvinced among readers of this book report, Mr. Bastardi’s book, “The Weaponization of Weather in the Phony Climate War” is highly recommended. The reader can then personally decide if spending up to $10 Trillion to combat so-called “Climate Change” is preferrable to the above. The alternative is to continue fighting each other like pre-school children that government has not brainwashed… yet.
