LYNN BERGMAN: CUTTING THE SPENDING - JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." - Confucious

In the weeks since the November 2nd election, every time someone or a group comes up with an idea to cut federal spending, the establishment answer is:

“That won’t even put a dent in the deficit!”

I have an idea…let’s implement these ideas anyway!

The first few steps must at least be in the right direction!

And after several first steps in the right direction, the goal will be defined.

So let’s ALL (including Senator-elect Hoeven) get on board with:

  • A Permanent Earmarks Ban
  • A 2 year Federal Pay Raise Freeze
  • 2-4 year Extension of the Bush Tax Cuts (lower rates increase revenue)
  • Send $10 Million “Heritage Area” grant back to Washington
  • Phased Elimination of the Seniority (aka: senility) System in Washington

(Replace with a peer-selected method of electing committee chairs, etc.)

Let’s all begin to embrace EVERY reasonable suggestion to diminish the deficit. And let’s do so with the assumption that no idea is too small to consider!

WE NEED A NEW WAY OF THINKING IN WASHINGTON…AND WE NEED IT NOW!
