U.S. President Barack Obama could have made the coming November 7th decision of the Afghan people infinitely safer had he acted decisively in March to mobilize tens of thousands of NATO armed forces (a majority of which would have been US armed forces) to insure the stability and ultimately, the freedom of the Afghan people. Instead, he has very indecisively blown the most important challenge facing his infant presidency. He is considering action that should have been taken half a year ago; as former Vice President Cheney put it only days ago, he is “dithering”. .. At the expense of the Afghan people’s future! Neither Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai nor his main rival, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah received a majority of the vote in the first round of voting on August 20th. Afghanistan’s impending November 7th national election represents a precious opportunity for the Afghan people to choose their only hope for competent governance over the growing corruption evident during Karzai’s tenure as President of Afghanistan. The Afghan people have a rare, perhaps the last, chance to choose a path of “change for the better” by using their right to vote, won with their own and NATO’s blood, to retire President Karzai, who will go down in Afghan history as the leader that began to lead Afghanistan out of the “dark ages”. The Afghan people need only examine the current state of affairs in Mexico and in Honduras to see examples they may choose from. Mexico’s leadership has failed dismally to reduce the rampant corruption within its borders… while Honduran leadership stands as a model for democratic action due to its recent actions to actually impose its constitution by impeaching a leader who won elected office as a center-right candidate only to attempt to impose socialism by decree! If the Honduran story seems to have a familiar ring to it… if you wonder why President Obama seems to be acting more like a presidential candidate than a president, let me clarify things for you. President Obama IS STILL ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL! He is and will continue to be running for “President of the World” with the United Nations as his “vehicle”. Why else would he side with the UN in demanding the re-instatement of former Honduran President Zelaya, knowing that Zelaya has revealed himself as a militant socialist? And President Obama will continue to press for the quick installment of socialism into every institution in these United States of America. Rampant Socialism has almost arrived, beginning with Cap and Trade, Health Insurance Reform, and Card Check. Yes, the people of Afghanistan have a unique opportunity to choose the path that the Honduran people (through their institutions of representative democracy) have courageously chosen in ousting a corrupt and dishonest leader in hopes of something better. And WE HERE IN AMERICA HAD BETTER WAKE UP, because we are only a few procedural votes, some closed door dealings, and a Presidential signature away from losing much of what so many have fought and died for… this right of the individual to act responsibly and choose for himself what is in his own best interest, this constitutional guarantee that we have TAKEN FOR GRANTED for so long… what we call “FREEDOM”. We must all take action… NOW!
