LYNN BERGMAN: WHAT MIGHT THOMAS PAINE SAY?

…about transgenders being removed from the military?

The responsibility of treating mental illness in general, and gender dysphoria in particular, belongs to society, a benefactor.

The responsibility of protecting society from enemies, foreign and domestic, belongs to the military and to law enforcement, elements of government, a punisher.

…about transgender bathrooms in schools…

The responsibility of teaching children lies primarily with parents, through well-educated parents themselves or well-educated parent-approved teaching venues, both benefactors to society.

The responsibility of treating and otherwise dealing with mental illness, and gender dysphoria in particular, belongs to parents and professionals in the medical community, elements of society, a benefactor.

The responsibility of government operated schools is to teach those who cannot afford private schooling, a position that government, most comfortably a punisher, is not well suited for.

…about taxes?

The fairest tax is a “consumption tax,” such as sales or excise taxes, where the taxpayer pays in proportion to the value of that being purchased. Those who buy more pay more, but at the same rate.

The most unfair tax is the property tax, the rent we pay to government to enjoy our own home.

In between these two is the “sin tax,” the tax we pay to government to pay for programs to mitigate the results of destructive behavior, such as smoking, drinking alcohol, compulsive eating, taking harmful drugs, risking cancer from tattoos, compulsive gambling, birth control pills (Do they cause autism? We soon may find out…), and other vices.

The most dis-incentivizing tax is the graduated income tax (the more you make, the greater percent they take). With the “progressive” income tax, government unduly punishes success.

…about pharmaceutical company advertising?

The responsibility of developing new and effective drugs and of prescribing those drugs belongs to pharma and medical doctors/nurse practitioners, both elements of society, benefactors.

The responsibility to prevent pharmaceutical manufactures from short-circuiting the patient doctor relationship with manipulative advertising, either in media or through “pharma reps” lies with government, a punisher. Congress should limit contact between pharma and doctors/nurse practitioners to letters (snail mail) and e-mails. Eliminating such advertising expense must be applied to reducing drug costs, both foreign and domestic.

…about “work for welfare”

Medicaid benefits (for those citizens under full retirement age) should be offered only to those at or below the poverty level. If a citizen is able bodied, a minimum amount of work (for which a paycheck is received) should be required during the month before each Medicaid check being considered. This should be reinstated immediately and be a permanent requirement, regardless of the party in power.

…about district judges handing down decisions applied to those beyond their district

District judges should not be allowed to project decisions affecting federal government activities within their district to other districts.

…about the $36.9 Trillion US National Debt

The national debt should be limited to 85% of non-governmental GDP and congress should begin a downward trajectory immediately, to return to the best credit rating possible and reach the 85% target by 2030.

…about non-citizens in the US through legal temporary permission

Non-citizens must, by law, not be encouraged or allowed to vote in our elections.

Non-citizens should be expelled from our education institutions and immediately deported, without due process, for acts of protest or civil disobedience, which are invasive acts when committed by foreigners. Their permissions to be here does not entitle them to the rights of our citizens. They are here at our pleasure.

…about the Alien Enemies Act

Any country that allows gang members to illegally enter the US must be considered an enemy of the US and we must declare war on such country in order to deport such gang members upon apprehension without due process. The War thus declared need not involve implementation of other actions on our part. The Supreme Court of the US Interprets the laws; it does not make the laws; that is for the legislative and executive branches.

More to come regarding other political issues of our time.
