SALLY MORRIS - ON THE CUSP?

It is difficult to believe the polls we keep hearing about in the media where Donald Trump is said to be “tanking”.  Honestly, if I were to design a summer specifically to erode support for Democrat candidates and bolster and magnify support for Republican candidates and the Second Amendment, I can hardly think how I would improve the one we are witnessing.

I find it puzzling that despite an awkward delivery and the mostly empty content of his messaging, that with the current climate of sheer terror in our cities across the nation combined with a threat of forced, continued (until the Twelfth of Never) commitment to the shut-down, there are any Americans left who can muster any enthusiasm for Joe Biden or any other Democrat in sight.

With regard to terrorism in our cities, the worst-hit are run by Democrat mayors with heavily-weighted Democrat councils, like Minneapolis, where this all began.  It seems a lifetime ago that we saw the beginning of “peaceful protests” against the police abuse that led to the death of George Floyd on a street in Minneapolis.  Since then we have been to hell and almost back.  In the wake of the opportunity Officer Chauvin served up for the violent mobs of nsurrectionists who were waiting anxiously for the first opportunity to begin their war, we have seen attempts to set up no-go zones (some successful enough to keep police away from murder scenes in Seattle), the destruction of massive numbers of public heritage treasures, historical monuments and art, conflagrations consuming city blocks, probably a million dollars-worth of spray paint invested in obscene graffiti defacing our public buildings and some employed by these rogue city governments themselves, painting slogans associated with Marxists on public city streets.  Is there a point where people will finally say “enough”?  If there is, they aren’t telling the pollsters.

This week there were at least four stand-out events which attracted some notice and should have traditional American Democrats re-thinking what they will do.  As Joe Biden blathered on from the basement about forcing us all to wear facemasks if we go outdoors he neglected to mention that mobs, too, would be required to mask up.  There seems to be no concern there.  In fact, Oregon attempted to enforce universal facemask wearing just about everywhere and exempt black people.  The “thinking” behind this is incomprehensible.  The theory would have to be either that the coronavirus will not exit from the noses and mouths of black people specifically or that whatever the virus does or does not do it is less important than the preferences of black people.  A mandate, after all, is a one-way thing.  We don’t need a mandate to choose to wear a mask; it is only used for those who object to wearing a mask.  No one was prohibited - but only black people had the choice.  This did not go over well at all.  Fearful of a backlash from relatively normal people, the state backed off of this peculiar exemption.

Back to the events of this week.  First we had a report over the weekend of another shooting/murder in CHOP.  As we have all become aware, police and other first-responders such as medical personnel or firefighters, are not permitted to enter CHOP.  This resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy and life-threatening injury to a 14-year-old.  By the time police were able to get to the site the victim had been hustled off to an emergency room (which then called the police and they were dispatched) by private car.  Whether his life might have been saved had trained medical personnel been allowed to attend him is difficult to know; whether he would have been shot in the first place had police been available there is another question.  The Seattle police chief expressed the fact that this cannot go on, that it is a dangerous situation to which she would not want her family exposed.

Next we had the 911 call from the distressed mother in Fredericksburg, VA.  She called for help because mobs were on top of her car and blocking her so she could not move in any direction.  Of particular concern was the fact that she had a small child, her daughter, in the car with her.  An implacable call center operator just repeated over and over that the “event” was sanctioned by the city and the police were “not allowed’ to intervene.  She must do the best she could without any help - or call City Hall and report this emergency to someone there.  This was a harrowing incident (I have experienced this myself) and it could have ended in another needless tragedy.  It became clear as this call went on for over two minutes, that the woman was on her own in a volatile and dangerous situation with a small child to boot.  It would appear that no one should attempt to traverse one of these great American cities without being well-armed and prepared like James Bond or Emma Peel to deal with whatever is flung at him.  What should one do?  It is well worth thinking through before attempting a trip across town.  The motto “Be Prepared” should be applied.  In this case the right answer would be a loaded gun in the handbag or glove compartment for such an occasion, in hand when danger appears on the horizon.  Absent this the only really safe decision would be to open the window a small crack, yell that you are driving through so get out of the way, lean on the horn and gun the engine and simply streak out of the danger zone going through whatever obstacle is in the way.  This could end badly for someone, but perhaps not the driver.  Listen to the audio on this and imagine your own little child in the back seat.  Maybe you can think of a more “woke” solution.

In Minneapolis, in a neighborhood which had decided to “swear off” calling on the police when crimes are committed, a child was sexually attacked in Powderhorn Park, a would-be CHOP, an area dominated apparently by white women who have given the all-clear to vandals that they don’t care about property damage.  Unfortunately this led to child damage.  It seems to be the M.O. to take the victim in a police-free zone privately to a hospital.  The hospital then must call the police to report the crime.  So it was with this child. Someone “from the area” dumped the kid off at the emergency room and let the chips fall where they would.  It is nearly impossible to investigate this kind of crime when the perpetrators are thus protected by the citizens.  One might at least hope that if the child’s parent(s) can be identified they would be charged with child endangerment.

Finally there was the attorney and his wife in St. Louis - Mark and Patricia McCloskey.  As you know, the mobs there were attempting to topple the statue of St. Louis, the king of France after whom the city was named.  A priest attempting to explain who St. Louis was and what he did was shouted down.  An elderly man there with others reciting the Rosary and attempting to protect the statue, was beaten up by a Black Lives Matter thug with brass knuckles.  Suffice it to say that St. Louis is not a peaceful place.  The couple were having dinner on the patio of the historic home they have restored in that city when a mob of 100 or so broke down the historic iron gates to the property and swarmed over the lawn, threatening to 1) kill the couple; 2) kill their dog and 3) burn their home (and the attorney’s attached office) to the ground.  They had no particular reason - he was just white so he was fair game.  No other explanation has been offered.  The provocation?  None.  In fact, this particular attorney is a Democrat, and in his practice has specialized in helping clients who have been mistreated by police.  The actual target was Mayor Lyda Krewson, whose crime was naming the people who have come out demanding defunding of the police in St. Louis.  That made the mob angry.  They were marching toward Krewson’s home and the McCloskey’s home just happened to be on the way, so, well, why not terrorize them for fun, right?  They broke down the gate, entered the private property and went on to threaten these people who had been minding their own business.  The reappearance of the couple with their guns seemed to quell the attempted multiple murders and mayhem.  They did this without firing a shot - in a normal world they would get the citizen-of-the-year award from the city of St. Louis.  Instead they are now threatened with prosecution.  For what?  Who cares.  Take a look.  I leave it to you - would you have wanted to be confronted by a senseless mob intent on destruction and threatening murder and arson with - or without - your gun?

From Seattle to Virginia and throughout our midwest from Minneapolis to Chicago to St. Louis, citizens have been abandoned by the police and are on their own.  It is the Wild West, the frontier.  We can’t blame the cops, really.  Everywhere they are blamed and threatened with defunding and disbandment.  Is there any really compelling interest to motivate them to show up?  They weren’t there for any of the above situations.  Everyone is on his own in these war zones.  If you must go to or through one of them you might want to consider arming yourself and thinking of escape strategies just in case.

All of this leads one to question the accuracy of polls which show lack of support for Trump.  What kind of thought process is involved when normal people witness the treeing of America, one city at a time, and the terrorizing and murder of innocent men, women and children and destruction of public property, when polls appear to show support for the very people who have been enabling this and  nurturing these mindless mobs for decades?  None of this is about race.  The mob that attacked the McCloskeys was a mixed group.  Few of these “demonstrators” even know who the subjects are of the statues they are destroying.  They don’t care if Teddy Roosevelt’s policies set the stage for the socialist agenda they promote today - there is a statue of him and it needs to go.  Columbus was merely a navigator seeking a new trade route.  He abused no one.  But his statue has been destroyed in several locations.  Abolitionists, union generals, Abraham Lincoln, mythical figures representing progress and women’s suffrage - all have to go.  Why?  Because they represent civilization.  It is simply that.  And people are being beaten, shot, their cars boarded, their children and their homes and even pets threatened with mayhem and death, their homes and businesses with arson.  Firemen and police are off the clock for good in some places.  You are on your own.  Is this a climate in which a normal person could contemplate electing those who would strip them of their self-protection?  Their last defense?

I can only imagine that these polls are skewed either by the way in which the questions are put or by people declining to answer them or answering them falsely out of fear.  Time will tell.  I would suggest, if I had his attention, that the president set down the phone and back away slowly, that he watch a few Ronald Reagan speeches and try to find some ground in which he can appear in charge, calm and presidential and put an end to the rioting and associated crimes.  Diddling on the sidelines, smugly watching while his erstwhile opponents squirm in the hands of lawless rioters might be personally satisfying.  He has intimated that this is one way in which people can get a taste of life under Democrats and correctly pointed out that these riot-torn cities are all run by Democrats.  This could backfire if he is perceived as too weak to act.  Innocent people, considerable numbers of them his supporters, are being hurt, and badly, by this.  True, it should teach people not to turn their futures over to feckless college kids and socialist executives, but will there be anything left by then?  True, he issued an order protecting monuments and statues, but is it too late?  Or is his majority just going to prudently remain silent until election day?  Can Americans still handle freedom?  Or will we go into that dark night, escorted there by Joe Biden, the Squad, Pelosi, Schumer and the assorted Democrat governors and mayors who have brought us to this point?
