SALLY MORRIS: A CLEAR CASE OF BETRAYAL
The last plane has left Kabul, leaving hundreds of Americans and thousands of our allies behind to shift for themselves, likely to meet an unthinkable fate. We have seen today our military and our “leadership” mocked by the Taliban hanging people from our own helicopters. Interpreters are being hunted and reportedly. The custom there is that when found, their tongues are cut out. This is the Biden administration’s quality of leaderhip.
Last week things were bad in Afghanistan - very bad. Now, over the weekend, we are seeing more evidence that we must now act as a people to reassert control over our own government. After all, better us than the Taliban.
Several events over the weekend followed the disastrous American exit from Afghanistan. As days go by we find out more of what was going on “off-camera”. Apparently, the Taliban asked Biden whether he preferred to take control of Kabul or that the Taliban should. Biden’s government, through its senior U.S. military leaders, said we wanted only the airport in order to evacuate people, leaving the city of Kabul, and therefore any realistic access to the airport, in the hands of the Taliban. Why? Why would we do that?
There are a lot of “why’s” here. Why didn’t we evacuate civilians - Americans and our allies - before we brought the military home? Why didn’t we prioritize cleaning out our embassy and our military stockpile - or at least destroy them - in Afghanistan? We left behind not only billions of dollars worth of military equipment but also vital intelligence, including information identifying Afghani allies, interpreters and others within the country who have assisted the U.S. Why? We had an airbase (Bagram AFB) which could have been used rather than the Kabul city airport for evacuation - a far safer prospect, more easily secured. Why did we not use that? Why did we turn that over to the Taliban instead?
A lot has been made of the supposed quarrel between the Taliban and Isis. This should really not be taken very seriously by us. After all, either one of them would choose to support the other over supporting us. They might quarrel as siblings do, but they will unite against us in a heartbeat if it comes to that. It might be a sort of “good Islamist-bad Islamist” kind of game. When our presence is gone they will sort this out with the accustomed violence toward each other. One will kill off the other and take over. One thing we can be certain of: our former interpreters and assets will be murdered.
The entire administration, fully in charge of the scheduling of withdrawal (Trump’s plan was to leave there in May) had all the time in the world to handle this in an orderly and reasonably respectable way. We have had the entire summer to exfiltrate these people before withdrawal of the military presence. We could have brought out our armaments, our ammunition, our technology, our intelligence. We could have protected the innocent, our friends, our countrymen. We could have made the withdrawal of troops safely, we could have done this without loss of life. This was a matter of will, not some surprise. The key people in the administration chose last week for their simultaneous vacations. Not that it would have helped to have them on the job, of course. Blinken was in the Hamptons, Psaki was off, Biden, as usual, was napping in Dover. Harris was yucking it up in front of the Ho Chi Minh bust in Saigon.
When he finally appeared to comment on the status of Hurricane Ida and the Gulf Coast (not to pun, but “any port in a storm”), he arrogantly slammed his hand down on the podium, turned his back and walked away from questions about Afghanistan and the people we appear to be leaving behind. He has nothing to say about Afghanistan, it seems.
Not only did our government leave behind advanced weaponry worth billions, a cache of intelligence including names and addresses of a network of allies within the country as well as our own people’s and abandon them to their fate, but when other private entities began lending a hand to those left to die or worse, the State Department forbade other nations from assisting in this.
That’s right. Independent military people began trying to help them escape and Glenn Beck, for one, set up arrangements with the Ambassador from Macedonia to establish a way station for evacuees he was going to help fly out of danger. The Macedonian government was warned not to help by our State Department. Now, I must ask this: exactly whose State Department is this? Because it would surely appear to be at the disposal of our enemy. Whose policies is “our” State Department advancing? Certainly not those of the United States of America.
About all Biden has accomplished by way of asserting our nationhood, was to drone-kill a bunch of children. America has been on a very steep decline now for almost a year. I wonder what happened?
Time will unfortunately tell what damage has been done with respect to our military equipment and intelligence. We may never even know the extent of that damage in our lifetimes. We know, nevertheless, that it will be substantial.
We have sustained a profound injury to our nation, to our people, to our military, and this will continue to happen, over and over, as long as we allow it. This is the point. Our government and our military serve us, not the other way around. Our military is a shambles at the moment. Morale must be rock-bottom. After 20 years of engagement in Afghanistan we tried to scurry away, tail between our legs, and basically got blown up in the effort. Now we are busy preventing any Americans or allies from escaping. The Taliban is not the French Foreign Legion. It is a brutal organization that hates and targets Christians, women and anyone from the West. The future of those abandoned is likely to be grim, indeed.
What of the foregoing account does not spell “treason”? This is not merely an incident worthy of impeachment or resignation (which, by the way, seems not to be forthcoming). This is a matter of abject betrayal of our people in uniform, our civilians, our allies and even Afghanis compromised there. We should by now know better than to settle ourselves in a foreign, hostile culture such as that of Afghanistan. We can thank the idiot George Bush for that one, but once there we must plan a dignified withdrawal, one which begets the least amount of violence in that nation and ensures safety to our own people, our friends there and our staff and does not leave behind valuable resources of every kind in enemy hands. Failing to handle this properly is treason. Biden did not get this problem delivered to him last week. He has had months to prepare and months before that to plan ahead. And this was the best he could do?
It is imperative now that we deal with this. The man who would be president is dictating to us what to inject into our bodies in order to be able to eat or shop or go to work or school. He is ordering 100% of our troops to be vaccinated, another act of treason. The “vaccines” are still experimental and not even approved by the sham FDA process. They are virtually guaranteed to cause sickness, disability and death within a few short years. We will then have no military left. 100% may well be gone, unable to defend the country. He is ruminating about the hurricane in the Gulf but arrogantly refuses questions on developments in Afghanistan. It is to be expected - how can he answer without self-incrimination? Either that or an indefensible, transparent lie.
How long can we allow this? America is governed ultimately by its people, not some potentate in Dover - or his manipulative and exploitative wife. This administration is a very dark stain on our history, a foul taste in our mouths, a bitter reality of treason. When a leader deliberately betrays his own troops and his own countrymen to benefit a foreign nation he commits treason, not “bad judgment” or stupidity. No one can be this stupid. If Biden were it does not excuse Secretary of State Blinken or Secretary of Defense Austin. It also does not let Harris off the hook. Or Milley. Our top brass, Biden, his cabinet, his wife and his Vice President, must not only leave office, but must be put on trial for treason. If this is not treason, then there is no use for the word. We became aware of anti-American actions by the Obama administration, particularly with regard to Iran. The Clinton administration, like Obama and “Biden”, helped China against America, but the level and openness of betrayal this time is shocking even to our jaded eyes. Perhaps we are all waiting for Biden and Milley to turn the military against us - our own people - before we recognize treason.
It might have looked like the confusion of a senile old man, which Biden is, but this does not excuse the Cabinet - they should have objected and if overridden, resigned. “Dr.” Jill should have given him a cookie and put him to bed before he did this. Milley should have said no to him - don’t these people have any respect for their oaths of office? And what other word fits the collusion against safe evacuation of our people to Macedonia, than “treachery”? Apparently, Biden talking back to Milley would have been like Mortimer Snerd talking back to Edgar Bergen.
Milley was most likely the person behind the whole disastrous plan, Biden being incapable of even planning a trip to the loo. Our interpreters are being denied asylum, guaranteeing they will be killed. U.S. Veterans have been trying desperately to rescue them.
The Macedonian government was going to provide facilities in order to screen the people evacuated. But maybe that, too, was a problem to Biden. He wants to ship the Afghanis into the U.S. wholesale, by the boat load, without vetting them, providing yet another layer of treachery and endangering us at home now as well. Maybe soon all the world can look like Kabul (or maybe Minneapolis). That would appear to be Biden and/or his administration’s heartfelt desire.
If we do not take some kind of disciplinary action now we can no longer be regarded as a nation. We will have become a minor dictatorship, sort of like Venezuela, with an army run by a Mark Milley and used against the people at home rather than as a defense of our country. We need to identify the “yes-men” who facilitated this disastrous “withdrawal” and hold them to stern account - by which I mean the firing squad or the gallows - if found guilty. Think for a moment: what is the alternative? Can we live with that?
