SALLY MORRIS: A MID-WEEK NEWS ROUNDUP
Once in a while I find there are several issues that deserve attention and there’s no way to write as much about them as I should, so today seemed like a good time to address a number of them, some having to do with the CCP virus attack and others with a different focus. First, as things are about to “open up” again in many locations following the massive shut-down, we need to realize that it is not simple, like flipping a light switch on the wall. In my town it has been a sort of twilight zone, with people freely walking about, even in groups - particularly groups of Somali women and individuals walking their dogs, more or less solo. Most people are wearing masks now, with notable exceptions - a man with his child in the local grocery store wearing an L M Wind Power t-shirt but no mask. (L M was hit very hard by the virus and is closed for that reason.) Ethnic non-North Americans seldom wear them here. I don’t know why - maybe they have religious beliefs that they are immune. Some stores are closed, others are not. Most of us try to avoid going into stores but no one feels they don’t dare. No one here really knows when things will actually “open” and if they do, whether anyone will come. Restaurants are an example. It is difficult to imagine how this will work on a “partial” scale. Will the wait staff appear at your table wearing a mask? Would it be more off-putting if they are wearing masks or not wearing them? And will you wonder if the kitchen staff are wearing masks or observing “social distancing”? How many can dine together? Only one? Unlikely. But how many? Only two? Can four people dine together if they live together? This is not as easy as it looks even for those managers who still have staff to call back to work. Some won’t have that option. One such restaurateur is Gabrielle Hamilton. She is out of business now. It’s over for her. We are going to see a lot of locally-run, one-off businesses go under. It is not that easy to bring staff back, especially when they have no reason to think they will be safe from the pandemic and when they have just gotten on their much-delayed unemployment compensation. It is a risk for them. And look at all of the surfaces that must be touched in a dine-in restaurant - being open for curbside pick-up or delivery is one thing - bringing the public together inside the restaurant is entirely different. (And this from someone who has missed out on two family birthday dinners at our favorite restaurant - even if it had been open we wouldn’t have risked it!) Movie theaters are a question - how many will want to get in line to buy a ticket and sit in an enclosed movie theater? Most people now have Netflix or something like it at home. We have become somewhat accustomed to watching movies at home. Will they pick up right away? I would have bet on a revival of the drive-in movie myself. But no one seems interested in that tradition. In another area, I saw an ad for N-95 masks on my screen one day (I believe it was across the top of a Drudge page) and I was curious. They were advertised as being made in an FDA-approved facility. Hmmm. An FDA facility where, exactly? I was interested enough to write and ask them. Several days later I actually got a reply. Here is a copy of their answer: Thank you for contacting Pulse TV. I am sorry for the delayed response, we have been very busy and we are doing our best to answer the tickets the best that we can. I am sorry but I can only tell you what I know. These are from China but they are made in an FDA Registered facility and FDA inspected upon entry. You should know that you cannot buy MADE in the USA masks with the PPE filtration layer because the government has mandated that they be sold to hospitals. Sandy Have a Wonderful Day! Customer Service powered by PulseTV New - Now get PulseTV's BEST deals by text! (I politely declined their offer.) Perhaps you have already seen the video of one facility in China which is preparing masks for shipment. It was shocking. If you missed it, here is the story. NTD also showed a video in a factory in China where almost no one was wearing a mask, no one was wearing gloves, masks were haphazardly tossed into plastic bins (it recalled post-flood clean-up for me) and another man was sweeping the floor with a broom while the other workers were handling the masks. By the way, I strongly recommend NTD for inside-China news. Now, given that the CDC can’t even get into China, how do you suppose the FDA oversees the manufacture and packaging of these masks? Let the buyer beware. Don’t be taken in by things like “FDA-approved facility”. If you trust Chinese-made pandemic gear, go for it, just don’t expect any kind of standards enforced, especially on materials sent to the hated United States. I no longer trust the FDA. If they have approved Chinese medical supplies factories which they cannot supervise or inspect they have become as untrustworthy as the WHO and if it is true that they have approved such facilities in a foreign country such as this they, too, need to be investigated as co-conspirators. And by now most of us are aware of the sale of worthless medical supplies by China to nearly every nation on earth. Speaking of China, I want to share with you one of my favorite sources of inside information regarding that nation - Crossroads. The host, Joshua Philipp, has started a petition calling for investigation of the virus and condemning the Chinese Communist Party. Here is that website if you are interested. Meanwhile Americans’ and Canadians’ rights are being bludgeoned into obliteration by power-made petty “authorities”. In Canada, Ezra Levant’s campaign to stop unreasonable fines of Canadians who are simply trying to take their dogs outside to relieve themselves, who are perhaps in an empty park giving their child a small bit of fresh air and sunlight, preachers feeding the homeless, etc., will hopefully bring attention to these abuses. In America the tension is growing where these awful little tyrants are bullying Americans rather than seeking our help and cooperation against a common enemy. The swagger and arrogance is what is getting to us. And underneath it all is the never-ending attempt to destroy our Second Amendment. In Canada, with a flourish of his pen, recently re-elected (although a minority government) dictator Justin Trudeau, just ordered confiscation of many heretofore legally owned guns. No reason was given. None of the guns he just outlawed unilaterally had anything whatsoever to do with the recent shooting spree in Nova Scotia. And in the U.S. it is a constant threat. Did you know that the U.N. Small Arms Treaty (yes, the very one that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton signed a few years back) is still in the cue, awaiting Senate ratification? It could happen and probably will the minute the Democrats can muster a majority. That could be any election year, maybe this year. That means two things - obviously, get out there and make sure you defeat Democrats running for the Senate, and secondly, sign Rand Paul’s petition/survey here which will convey to the President that you support American sovereignty and the United States Constitution. It is arguable that for many of those who are protesting the shut-down, it si as much about their refusal to be bullied and ordered around as about the economy. Both are vitally important.
