SALLY MORRIS: AN EXCHANGE WITH A GENUINE RACIST
(Ever wonder what a real bigot sounds like? Read on.)
In the past I have expressed deep concern about eligibility issues with regard to Ted Cruz's candidacy. As I have written since, events have moved on and inasmuch as no one is attempting to hold Obama to account for his utter failure to prove his eligibility, it seems if we are willing to countenance a president in the Oval Office who thumbs his nose at the Constitution on this and every other matter, we should then be okay with a man who is NOT trying to fool us about his parentage, his birthplace, his citizenship or his educational career. I am ready to concede that Ted Cruz has proven himself worthy of very serious consideration for the presidency.
I occasionally find a very interesting story in my email, and as Common Core has been a matter of intense interest for some time now, and will undoubtedly continue to be, I read a story about the “Teacher of the Year” who resigned rather than submit to the dictates of Common Core. The article spawned some considerable commentary. I responded to a reader who indicated we needed to elect people to stop Common Core. In return, I got some flak for my recommendation. Because I think the discussion very pertinent right now, I thought I'd share it. Also, inasmuch as I have been called everything in the dictionary for my willingness to name our enemies, I thought it would be nice to show you what an actual “racist” or “bigot” or “xenophobe” sounds like. Here goes:
Me -posting as as “oldschoolpatriot” (in response to a concerned reader who believes we must elect people to oppose Common Core):
Good for you. Among supporters of Common Core are a couple of frontrunners - Jeb Bush and Scott Walker. We need to vet these people very carefully. It is easy to get a glossy thumbnail picture of an appealing-looking candidate who we think could win and jump on the bandwagon before we know enough about him. Walker looks conservative, but he's basically on board with immigration (based on his past activities in an official capacity) and he is also a facilitator of Common Core. This is NOT what we want on a Republican ticket. These two men need to be eliminated first. I would suggest Cruz for President, Jindal for Vice President.
To which I got this retort from another reader, a true racist (actually, I am convinced he's probably a “progressive”):
Ralph Long: “ God oldschoolpatriot you must have lost your mind totally if you want to elect Canadian Exile Evil Teddy Bear Ted Cruz and East Indian Bobby Jindal to be President and Vice President! NO Thanks!”
My answer follows:
I guess it depends on your criteria. I would pick a candidate based on his principles and his stand on the important issues. If you want someone to stand for the 2nd Amendment, Cruz is more than on record for that! If you want someone who will stand firmly against Islamic aggression, Cruz is there. Do you think we've had enough of the IRS and its domestic spying ad oppression? Cruz wants to eliminate the IRS - and has been working for this for years. What about downsizing government? Cruz wants a smaller federal government and a reasonable budget. Are you concerned that our leaders are not defending our border? So is Cruz. He opposes amnesty. How about Obamacare? Many SAY they are against it. Cruz is willing to fight to end it. He is outspoken in his criticism of the "normalizing" of relations with Cuba, his father's homeland. Do you want someone who looks to Ronald Reagan - or someone who prefers the philosophy of Woodrow Wilson? Cruz favors the Reagan approach. Cruz is unequivocal in support of "American Exceptionalism". Do you want a mugwump who will tell you one thing and then betray you with a vote? Cruz will not tell you he's for one thing and vote the other way - he has a track record on this.
He was born in Canada. I know a lot of people who were born in Canada and almost none of them is "evil". None of them is a "bear". He has been honest and open about his family and its history. Some, like Obama, choose to hide their past and obfuscate with forged birth certificates, and scrub their college records, for fear of public revulsion. Cruz has a distinguished career - as a student and a professional in the field of law before becoming a senator. His life is an open book. He's not an "exile" from Canada. He had dual citizenship because of his parentage and chose to renounce his Canadian citizenship in favor of solely American citizenship. You did not mention wherein you disagree with Cruz.
Bobby Jindal is an American. He was born in Baton Rouge, LA, NOT "East India". (I have ancestors from Russia, Ireland, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Scotland, Spain, Wales, Canada, Brazil and Scandinavia – but I'm an American. My ancestors were here in America in the Fifteenth Century. What are YOU?) He is a Catholic, while Cruz is Protestant. He opposes Sharia - which I think is a good thing (opposing Sharia, that is!). He also recognizes Islam for what it is and is not afraid to name it. He is strongly pro-life. He supports our ally, Israel. He has demonstrated a willingness to cut government spending. He is strongly against Common Core, which is one of our REAL "evils". If you don't like Americans of East Indian descent, maybe we could agree on Allen West? If you don't like Black Americans we could look for a "white, Anglo-Saxon" specimen, but I find most of them are on the take with the US Chamber of Commerce and find themselves very "flexible" on matters such as Common Core and Amnesty. One I could definitely support is Daniel Webster of Florida.
Your post demonstrates that you don't particularly care about issues. You care about ethnic "issues" and see no further. We have had presidents of Dutch heritage - both good and bad., Irish heritage, good and bad, Scots-Irish - good and bad, Welsh, good and bad. We've had a president of German heritage I think was terrible, and a Black president who is much worse. America is not a country club. And we're no longer a superpower, thanks to our current president, and we face many threats both domestic and foreign - to our very existence as a nation. It's time for people who don't care about issues or principles to sit down and shut up. Or offer some real discussion.
