SALLY MORRIS: AN OFFENSIVE ELK AND BRASS KNUCKLES
You know, there is a lie that needs to be busted with Black Lives Matter. For a month now, we have all been treated to the wonderful demonstration of why mob rule is better than the institutions created by the West to encourage the success and freedom of people of all colors and backgrounds. Is anyone buying this load of crap? First of all, let’s talk about “black lives mattering”, the phrase, not the phony organization. Is there anyone in our country or any other civilized nation in the West which says that lives of black people don’t “matter”? So why the slogan/name? Yes. All lives matter. They do. It’s becoming nearly illegal to say this. People are losing their entire careers over saying these words - “all lives matter”. Where is the sanity? Or is “sanity” a forbidden word? We need to do a daily check, it seems. The people who are identifying themselves as “Black Lives Matter” - many, if not the majority, white, have been on a relentless campaign of seeing how many statues and memorials they can destroy before someone finally draws the line and says that we’ve had enough. So far they’ve knocked down statues of abolitionists and statues of mythical figures that were dedicated by groups involved with women’s suffrage, statues of saints, of the great navigator Columbus, of our nation’s founding fathers - the people who enshrined our basic freedoms in a unique and admirable Constitution. They have maliciously attacked everything in their path or in sight. They are gunning for statues of Jesus (I predicted they’d go after the Pietà before they were done). Recently, one of these organized mobs decided to burn down a landmark statue of a wild elk. You read that right. They found a bronze statue of an elk adorning a fountain which has been featured in those “things to see in Portland” articles and guidebooks. The fountain pool once served as a water trough for horses in the pre-automobile era. They set fires and stoked them all night until they managed to melt the bronze statue and left its deformed remains in the fountain it once graced. So Portland is poorer by one beautiful work of art depicting a noble and free animal. Well, thank God they got rid of that racist affront to decency! This act should be enough finally to convince even the most doltish, self-accusing, self-flagellating inverted racist that this entire rampage has had nothing whatsoever to do with anyone’s rights and most certainly not with black lives. We should not have to explain this to anyone. In fact, I’m getting sick of saying the same thing over and over. The truth needs to be said and repeated and drilled into this narrative. There is a lot of work to do, simply undoing the bad work done by foreign influences in our education system, K-12 and beyond. We have about three generations of persistent indoctrination - not teaching, or learning, mind you - indoctrination. Our kids - now the components of these hideous mobs - were trained to behave this way in the schools we have been paying for for half a century now. Our professional and working adults who should have been looking out for their children have instead devoted themselves to feeding their own greed - two full-time salaries, two or more cars in every garage, cell phones for everyone, computers for all, designer wardrobes. What parent would think of sending their kid to school by public transportation in ordinary clothes without a smartphone? No. They need their own cars, the popular designer labels on their clothes and shoes, iphones, games. They don’t get any American history, by the way. Whose fault is that? It is their parents’ fault. Now their parents are to blame for the literal meltdown of America. What, then, should they have been learning instead of “Rules for Radicals”? Let’s start with American history. If these over-age children had learned the history of our nation they would know it was founded on the idea of equal freedom for all (not equal income, by the way - that is the road to totalitarianism and even there, there is no such thing as equal income). They would have learned that from its inception in an era when slavery was still an accepted institution, the goal of the founders was to eliminate it. Now, here I must assert that there are a lot of cheap demagogues like Condoleeza Rice, who twist elements of our history to bolster their own “victim” narrative. I have heard that embarrassment of a politician toss off a line (and more than once) about back when our founders counted a black man as “three-fifths of a man”. I’m going to go on this tangent here because it is such a spot-on illustration of twisting the truth. It really sounds insensitive - not to say insulting. Why would blacks, in a country founded in the ideas of freedom, be considered “⅗ of a man”? Because the founders wanted to stack the deck in favor of eventual equality for all races, that’s why. And Condoleeza Rice, a highly educated woman, recipient of many honors and accolades, knows this full well. In order to prevent slave-holding states (chiefly but not entirely) in the south bulking up their voting strength by counting slaves as part of the population, a compromise was reached where they did not count fully for purposes of those states’ influence in favor of continuing slavery indefinitely. They needed to be counted in order to gain participation of these states but if they had been counted as “five fifths” these states would have controlled a process which it was hoped would set the stage for eventual emancipation and elimination of the hated institution, if their influence was curbed. So when you hear people who don’t know any better, try to explain this to them. When you hear a well-educated fraud like Condoleeza Rice do this, recognize that they are trying to use your presumed ignorance to fuel their claims of victimhood. (By the way, Rice never experienced poverty.) The founders of America worked long and hard to solve these and other problems of a new nation created out of revolution against a colonial power. When things finally reached the boiling point, Americans went to war again, barely 70 years after their founding. Six hundred thousand lives were spent, many more left disabled and scarred, homes and businesses lost, a holocaust on our own land was waged at a terrible cost over the principle of freedom for all people. Jim Crow is often referred to when trying to establish modern-day victimhood. Jim Crow laws and practices were designed to continue marginalization of black Americans. It was a time of unfair discrimination, in fact, some horrible violations of decency such as lynchings. By the end of WWII we were seeing the end of this era. America was awakening to a new day. We were now a leading world power and began looking more critically at our own institutions. Because America now viewed segregation as “racist”, desegregation became the goal of the 1950s, and was accomplished. In the 1960s Johnson’s “Great Society” ushered in a raft of new programs supposedly intended to benefit the poor, and most especially people “of color” - significantly black people. Since then the march has continued - with affirmative action in school placement and in employment. While we may very well argue that this was not the right way to go to achieve “equality of opportunity”, there is no question that the American people got behind these efforts because they are not racists, but rather wished to ensure that all Americans really did have a chance at the American dream. America is not, and was not founded as a racist nation. Our founding was fraught with contention over this particular issue, and those who most profoundly influenced the direction we were to grow desired above all to finally achieve this. Had they not found some ground on which to compromise there is no possibility that America could have survived. Today we have the ill-effects of too much “social engineering” in the effort to effect equal outcomes. This is not an achievable end, in the first place, and inflicting penalties on one group to benefit another is never productive of a good result. We now have families broken by too many “do-gooder” social programs (I have personal experience of this - don’t doubt me), with all that entails in terms of crime, single motherhood, poverty and substance abuse. This, in turn, has fed the mobs we see today. They have all been taught that they are victims of America, especially of white Americans. Why are more blacks in our prisons? Because we have inadvertently set in motion the conditions which create criminals. Why do we have “profiling”? Because it is an essential step in crime fighting. If we have an interest in fighting crime we must begin with some kind of profiling when a crime is committed. We should not be seeking a black fugitive when we have good evidence that the crime was committed by a white perpetrator, and vice-versa. It is everyone’s interest to stop crime. Crime is more adversely affecting the black community than any other. The riots we have seen have done more damage to black people than any other category of American. Are there “racists” and bigots in America? Of course there are. There are all kinds of people in America. Gays, straight people, men, women, other genders are now considered legitimate, poor, wealthy, educated, un-educated, of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. Is there “systemic racism”? Emphatically no. Now, if you want to see racism that is systemic, check out South Africa, which lurched from alleged whtie racism to a highly toxic (to all races) form of black racism. Check out China. While the West has emerged from systemic racism in general, there is no nation - with a majority of either black or white people - which has offered more freedom or more opportunity for success and a good quality of life to black people. Why do so many want to come here from all parts of the world, after all? We have immigrants here and refugees from many black-dominated nations and other nations with majorities among various peoples “of color”. Women have greater freedom, people pursuing alternative lifestyles - gays, for example, all races, enjoy equal opportunities. This doesn’t mean equal advantages - it never does and never will. It means that the door is open to success if one is willing to work hard enough and prepare oneself through training to become what we want to become. Unfortunately, our colleges and universities seem to have wasted their students’ tuition and fees on teaching them how to scrawl meaningless slogans on cardboard, use spray paint to write obscene messages on public buildings and destroy art. In the name of what? Black lives mattering? If black lives matter then all lives must also matter. If any lives matter, what about the slavery of black Africans by many Muslim nations? What about blacks enslaving other blacks? Is that okay, then, because the perpetrators of slavery are “of color”? Then it is not slavery or unfair discrimination or any other such idea that is offending these mobs. It is nothing but a pretext to riot and go on a destructive tour of our great cities, defacing everything they cannot obliterate entirely. We are supposed to tolerate this because . . . why, again? Because black lives matter? How does the destruction of our cities, along with black-owned business and black-occupied homes, tell anyone that black lives matter to them? They don’t. The quality of life of the black resident who finally got sick of the garbage signs he was forced to look at across the street from his home was bullied, when he attempted to remove them, by a white kid, pushing him around and intimidating him. Whose life matters to that kid? Black Lives Matter crowds are largely white. And they are largely paid, too, by the way. They are really rent-a-mobs. Now it is up to us to decide what to do about this. Option One is we get out of the way and let them have at our culture - burn down our buildings, occupy and vandalize our police headquarters, destroy our gardens and our statues, scream mindless slogans, set up encampments of bused-in “protesters'' and local homeless people, threaten citizens, jump on their cars and shoot the drivers, beat people up, cost us millions in clean-up alone (have you seen the photos of the wreckage of once-beautiful Minneapolsi?), tolerate looting and vandalism of businesses, cause closure of many businesses and watch our deified celebrities or those attempting to rehabilitate themselves, such as John Cusack and others bail them out so they can do it all over again. One might well wonder why Cusack and others wish to promote the looting of businesses which provide jobs for people of all colors, or businesses owned by moms and pops, many of them black. Other celebrities are busy displaying their thespian talents in producing self-blame public messages: “I take responsibility . . . '' One might be concerned as to what they were actually personally responsible for doing to innocent black people. And perhaps prosecuting them? Well, we have been exercising Option One. It isn’t looking good. What are other options? The “book” solution, Option Two, might be something like citizens going en masse to their city halls and demanding - not asking - that laws against destruction of property, public and private, and assault on people - be strictly enforced, with deadly force if necessary. That is the established process. Then, at the earliest opportunity, recall and un-elect these worthless and flaccid “leaders”. This might take too long, for at this point, the destruction and mayhem has been going on until there isn’t a whole lot left to protect. In order to stop this, we might have to go directly to Option Three. This would be regrettable, indeed, because it is vigilantism. That is correct. It would be unfortunate, but it might be absolutely necessary. The McCloskeys in St. Louis found that it was. They are facing the possibility of prosecution by George Soros-backed St. Louis prosecutor Kim Gardner. Which brings us back to part 2 of Option Two - which is legally removing from office these “public servants”. In this scenario, it becomes crystal clear that the Second Amendment is of the utmost importance. We need to at least be prepared and capable of protecting ourselves. After all, our “woke” city councils are disbanding the police. And wherever this occurs, you can bet that drug cartels, street thugs and mafiosi will be drawn there like ants to the picnic. There is another family of options - street gangs, Mafia, MS-13, Hell’s Angels showing up to “police” these cities. It would not be pretty either. And these guys don’t care much about “due process”. There is no longer any pretense of a lawful society. We have descended into the realm of “might makes right”, brass knuckles used to beat up an elderly man reciting the Rosary at the statue of St. Louis, a man beaten into a twisted pulp by a thug wielding a skateboard. The news now is to stay well away from anyone on or carrying a skateboard. This used to be an innocent pursuit. Old women are slugged and left unconscious when they hit the fire hydrants. The beauty of our cities has been scarred forever- we now have filthy graffiti, litter and excrescence and urine in our doorways, crumbled stumps where once we had flowers and statues and benches from which to enjoy them. We used to have coffeehouses, restaurants and bars where live music was played and our parks were safe and pleasant places for people living in our cities to unwind and relax under the canopy of shade trees. Businesses which were just re-opening from the COVID shutdown have been destroyed now. Small, locally-owned businesses don’t have the resources now and large companies based in these places will not remain. This only hurts working people and increases the burden on the remaining tax base, already struggling. So you wanted better schools? Watch what happens to the ones you’ve got when the working people leave for safe, cleaner places. Haven’t seen Minneapolis lately? Well, here are a few views. There is no longer any percentage in allowing this travesty, this attack on our country, to continue. Mount Rushmore is the next point of contention. When that is gone, what will be next? I am hoping to enjoy a quiet and peaceful 4th of July in beautiful Bemidji. Because who knows? They might be coming for Paul Bunyan and Babe next.
