SALLY MORRIS:  COMING SOON - FILM COMMISSARS?

Since I did not get a chance to post anything yesterday I'm putting two stories before you today.  The first, of course, was another one on the propsal of the president to short-circuit our Bill of Rights - specifically the First, Second, Fourth and Fifth Amendments.  This one will draw your attention to an attack on our First Amendment from another direction - the so-called "Gay Rights" lobby.  There is actually a bit of good news here.

The story is that a Christian couple began a business of filming documentaries and weddings.  They declined to film a gay wedding, so, instead of finding a company that would, the gay couple did what gay couples do - they sued to attempt to restrict the freedom of speech and religion of people who did not want to be forced to spout beliefs not their own, thus effectively putting them out of business by draining their bank account in legal fees and their time in court.  They won.  However, in a refreshing twist, the appeals court refused to affirm the decision which would have required, in effect, forced speech by the film makers.  Film making is a form of expression/speech.  The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals court ruled that the film makers, Carl and Angel Larson, could not be deprived of this freedom and sent the case back to Federal District Court.  Any other outcome would have been unthinkable.  Of course this case against the Larsons, originating in St. Cloud, Minnesota, will be nevertheless defended by Attorney General Keith Ellison's office.

This case is important in itself, of course, but also it should be a warning flag against electing someone like Pete Buttegieg.  He shows every evidence of a militant attitude and a disregard for the finer points of the First Amendment.  The climate could become very stormy under anyone with these commitments to an agenda.

It is truly chillimg to think where something like this could go.  Film makers could be fined or worse for the content of their work.  You can imagine where we might end up with this.  Here's a link to the story: https://www.saukvalley.com/2019/08/23/federal-appeals-court-rules-for-st-cloud-couple-seeking-to-deny-same-sex-wedding-film-services/aieyc6y/
