SALLY MORRIS: DEMOCRATS BURY AMERICA IN DEBT AND REPUBLICANS DIG THE HOLE

Well, folks, now you have it.  The Republican Party has stepped up to the plate at long last and missed the ball.  They didn’t bunt.  They missed the ball.  We’ve had all sorts of great explanations meant to get Speaker John Boehner off the hook he put himself on.  “We don’t want to use our ‘leverage’ too soon!  Let’s wait for the Paul Ryan budget     That will be the REAL test!  This is just a FAKE test, not a REAL one.”  No less a figure than that darling of conservative talk radio and sometime Beacon author, Rob Port, says: “Let’s not allow the ‘perfect’ to become the enemy of the ‘good’.”  Come on, Rob.  You can do better than that.  How’s this one, from this writer:  “Let’s not tear defeat from the jaws of victory”? For did we not proclaim victory last November?  Did that mean anything?

John Boehner seems to think not.  He seems to still believe he’s a Minority Leader in the House.  Wake up, John!  It’s not a dream.  Remember?  Nancy Pelosi handed YOU the gavel.  Now it’s up to you.  You have a majority in the House of Representatives – where the appropriations are made, where all financial bills commence.  It is your duty to lead.  You have not led since that first tear of joy.

In all seriousness, last December, I commented that the Republican Party was “on probation”.  The victory of last November was on trial here.  People went dutifully to the polls and, many on the advice of tea party organizations and their endorsements, supported supposedly conservative candidates with their votes.  If the tea party organizations are to remain at all effective and not lose their credibility, they must now take some kind of action to withdraw their support from those who have not merited that support.

We have a broad range of interesting potential candidates for the presidential ticket on the Republican side.  I would say that the yardstick the tea party movement needs to use before endorsing anyone or even considering them as serious candidates, is to demand that they weigh in - personally – on this question of the budget.  Many of us have admired the leadership and values of Michele Bachmann of Minnesota.  If she is serious about a run for the presidency we should strongly urge her to denounce Boehner and actually lead a revolt.  I had questioned in an earlier article, the fitness of Mr. Boehner to serve in the perilous times we are facing.  My concerns are justified by his failure to lead.  In the face of a challenge he was the first to blink.  I  believe that Democrats, including Obama, expected this.  Personally, I believe that Bachmann would be a great choice, but she’d better not be caught bringing the guys their coffee and muffins.  She needs to be presidential.  Like Margaret Thatcher.  Channel Thatcher, Michele!  What would she do in this situation?  I know you’ve got the stuffing.

It is no good for conservatives to sit back and look for the bright side in all of this.  There is none, if we are not to deceive ourselves.  We are being told by people such as Rob Port that this was just a “skirmish”.  The battle is still coming.  I don’t know about that.  I have no reason to believe that you win a battle by losing a “skirmish”, or that you win a war by losing a battle.  If we had fought the Revolution this way we would still be singing “God Save the Queen” and Washington would have hanged from a tall oak tree.  No, Rob.  This is no time to make excuses for these failed “leaders” in Congress.  Let’s accept that we’ve been had and move on in another direction, rather than pretend otherwise.  It serves no one to follow the wrong leader or no leader at all.  Like the little boy in the story, it’s time to scream, at the top of our lungs, “John Boehner’s not wearing any clothes!”  Trying to put a good face on this travesty and ballyhooing “spending cuts” which amount to fraud, really is putting lipstick on a pig.  It will not save our country.

The Democrats, about to bury America in our own debt, pointed to the hard ground and nudged our Republican “leaders” and ordered them to dig.  Our leaders should have said, “No.  See if you can dig it yourself. The American people did not elect me to dig your hole!”  After all, WE had the shovels THIS time. Where are the leaders we elected?  This is not a rhetorical question, by the way.  We need to find them before the next election campaign season.  We cannot afford to back anymore RINOs.

The conventional wisdom of journalists, as perhaps best expressed by NBC’s Murray in his response today to the Ryan Plan, is that Americans are so ignorant and uninformed that they do not realize the seriousness of the excessive debt our country has assumed to fund its ventures into socialism.

The facts these left-leaning journalists fail to accept are that unemployment will linger near current levels for years without a significant national belt-tightening; and that actuarially unsound entitlements are the biggest problem to be remedied.

The Ryan Plan, passed today by the House, once fully explained to seniors, will calm them…because it does not unfairly target them. Instead, it calls for those with time to plan their lives to do so, in direct proportion to their number of remaining productive years.

Most Americans understand our country is on the brink of economic disaster and will actually welcome bold leadership such as Congressman Ryan has provided.

A better prediction than Murray’s “Democratic gains due to fearful seniors” would be the prospects of young Mr. Ryan being drafted to run for President…and winning by a landslide. “Petey” Ryan is the brightest leader we’ve had in decades.

November 2012 is coming!

I am occasionally criticized for not advising readers how to think on various issues. My usual response is that I prefer voters become educated to the facts on issues and make up their own minds. In the case of the coming 2012 elections, however, I am finally compelled to share my viewpoints without a thorough analysis to back then up.

Representative Paul Ryan is the brightest young leader I’ve witnessed in years. Michelle Bachmann is the most courageous young leader I’ve witnessed in years. Herman Cain is the wisest, most experienced, and exclusively self-made conservative candidate for President I’ve ever encountered.

The prospect of being educated by presidential debates containing these and other rising conservative stars in the Republican Party has me as excited as ever for conservative victory in November of next year.

Huckabee, Romney, and other “retreads”...and Trump…not so much. We do not need leaders that are more interested in themselves and their personal prosperity than the future of our country.

I would second Mr. Bergman’s endorsements of the excellent leaders, Bachmann, Ryan and Cain.  I would add some other intelligent and dedicated men , including Rand Paul, not a Washington “old-timer” but yet steeped in his country’s history and greatness.  He would bring both American tradition and a fresh outlook - not bad in one candidate!  Let’s give that some thought.

Donald Trump is basically a snake oil salesman but he has one thing going for him that I wish the other true conservatives had - when he sees a loaded gun lying around (the birth certificate) he picks it up!  Our conservatives tend to be a little too prissy and too well mannered for our good.  These times call for taking of those gloves and coming out of the corner with no thought of not winning.  We need the fight besides the quiet courage.

The Tea party movement is looking to find a leader who will fight because instinctively they know that we can’t stop to observe protocol or cotillion manners.  This is a fight for our lives and for our country’s survival.  Nothing less that all-out will do.  Yes, Michele Bachman has shown strength and courage but let us hope she will show us fight.  I think a Rand Paul/Michele Bachmann ticket (not necessarily in that order) would do us proud.  Let’s get to work on ‘em!

I like Trump, he has backbone and a big mouth.  I don’t think his ego will allow him to fail.  Politicians don’t like him because he does not belong to their club.

Trump should have produce a certification of his authenticity as a Republican before suggesting that he would run for President. His donations to liberal and corrupt democrats proves his bonafide identity as a Charlatan. We already have an egocentric self-serving lying con man in the office; we don’t need a like replacement with the added ability to philander.

Lynn Bergman on April 28, 2011 at 05:31 pm

I don’t know about being a Charlatan, I enjoy listening to to his ideas and his tough talk.  I could puke nails listening to the other polititians taking these nails and poking them in my eardrums when Pelosi or Reed speak.  Time will tell if he really has the berries to explain his past.  If his intentions are just to stir the pot thats is ok too as long as other Republicans pick up on his messages and ideas.

Donald Trump has one quality which so far none of the others has shown: the unwillingness to protect the Republican Establishment.  He is also loud and coarse and seems to satisfy the need to vent for a lot of justifiably angry conservatives.  We have been bullied for decades by the Nelson Rockefeller contingent, now being headed up by Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.  We’ve frankly had enough and it just “feels good” to hear someone “laying it on the line” and “saying it like it is”, which is how Trump is being perceived.  Trump knows how to get attention and hold an audience.  He seems to have taken the pulse of the folks on the Right who don’t think anyone is listening.

Conservatives, however, are well advised to take care.  We knew nothing about the man the Democrats elected last time.  There were for some a few unpleasant surprises.  Things they should have been aware of, like his political views, for instance, who he has supported, whether it be Wright or Ayers or Dorn.  We should have found out about these things and talked about them. A few of us did, but too many were looking for the nearest bandwagon to jump into.  Well, if we hear from some readers, it would apear that they didn’t learn much.  Donald Trump is a huckster.  He is a showman.  He is, or has traditionally been, a Democrat.  He has financially supported some of the worst men and women in our politics today.  Which of you was it, again, who likes Rahm Emanuel?  Well, Trump did.  How about Charles Schumer? Trump again.  The list goes on and on.  This man, Donald Trump, has never before expressed interest in conservative philosophy.  Rather has been a crony capitalist, subverting and corrupting the system as a career path.  You will sooner see him on the courthouse steps seizing some homeowner’s property through eminent domain than addressing a tea party group.  Much less organizing a tea party.  We have good people.  We don’t need Trump.

That said, those good people need to wipe the smiles off their faces and get serious.  We are in no mood for jokes or making light of our situation.  Too many of us have the vision to see the edge of that cliff.  We don’t need mellow, smiley people or chirpy smily people or any kind of people who are still trying to protect the image of the failed George W. Bush.  Enough!  If you don’t begin to be angry like the rest of us Trump will steal your thunder and we will have no conservative left in the race.

I also like Herman Cain, I am fairly new to politics I but I know a thing or 2 about dealing with corrupt, unethical, dishonorable, and immoral people that have no integirty or principals.  Don’t like Romneycare, but could get to like Bachman.  I hope Trump continues to stir the pot, after the roasting he got at the jounalists dinner last night he has to be pissed.  I am looking forward to what he has to say about this night.  And if he is as bad as you say then I will find out and agree with you, I do not wear blinders.
