SALLY MORRIS: IT’S TIME TO PUNISH CHINA
We are still holding our breath at the moment - and will be until we have the relief promised by Congress in our hands. The weekend was swirling with updates of all kinds - the uptick in confirmed cases of Coronavirus, the number of deaths, the economic crisis, the battle in Congress with Democrats attempting, predictably, to stuff an emergency relief bill with long-term environmental, abortion rights and assorted other special interest add-ons while the nation was held hostage. Predictably, conservative Republicans have reacted with outrage. Predictably, though, no one is listening to the people. (Oh, and predictably North Korea has fired missiles for no reason.) Since we can’t seem to change that fact, we should at least find out what our other enemy, the communist government of Red China, has been up to. We know that they have multiplied exponentially the number of deaths and the number of those who are ill from this as well as the economic stress by firstly creating the virus, secondly by lying to international organizations, such as WHO, and the community of nations, as to the nature of the virus - that it was spreading human-to-human, and how long it had been infecting their own people. They have abused their own, stifling and disappearing those who have spoken out about the danger of the new virus. They have now threatened to withhold certain medicines and medical supplies. They have continued to lie about the course of the epidemic. They scrubbed vital information which could have helped in addressing the health threat. They have banned all foreign journalists and sent them out of the country. This we all knew already. But other things have come to light more recently. The Chinese government sold defective test kits to Spain and Czechoslovakia, among other nations. Spain has become an epicenter now, surpassing China itself in cases. It is being hit so hard that they are now storing their dead on ice rinks. Yet China sold them defective test kits. They have been selling supplies which had been donated to them previously - video shows the products with the “AID” label on them. While Taiwan, not allowed membership in the UN (they are arguably better of for it) or WHO, tried to warn the UN agency about China’s lies and subsequently has donated massive amounts of medical supplies and gear to the United States, China, on the other hand, has turned on the nation which has made it wealthy - the U.S. - falsely accusing us of creating and spreading the virus. Israel, often condemned even by conservatives in America, is sending us quantities of medications which are thought to be helpful in combating the disease and is working on treatments, cures and vaccines. Here is the latest from China: companies which manufacture thermometers (we have foolishly allowed everything we buy to be made in China) are having a laugh over the prospect of selling us deliberately falsely calibrated thermometers which will read a lower temperature so as to have Americans unwittingly spreading the disease because of a faulty reading. What a hoot. We need to readjust our relationship with China. It is perhaps finally time to declare our debt to be completely voided and to cease trade with China. We should no longer recognize their rogue and criminal government, but rather that of Taiwan, as the official government of China (that is, if Taiwan still wants any part of China). Instead of allowing people to think that this criminal government, a “Harry Lime” with a Munschausen complex, is helping anyone, we should convene leaders and present China with a class action suit which would end their ugly career among nations of the world. A government which would do this to the world is no better than Hitler’s government. It is an aggressor and a criminal actor. China would like every country on earth to crash. A worldwide economic crisis, they believe, would give them a boost, relatively speaking. They are an aggressor and would optimize this opportunity to harm the West. We can't afford a relationship with such a government. Perhaps one day the people of China will see fit and find a way to replace it with a democratically elected, representative government. Then we can take another look at a relationship with them.
