SALLY MORRIS:  JD VANCE AND THE GRAPES OF WRATH

The airwaves and Youtube et al, are alive with coverage of JD Vance’s earthquake speech last week at the ironically named Munich Security Conference.

Vance took the stage, confronting an audience he knew would be hostile to his message and did not flinch while standing strongly for truth and democracy at the Conference.  Indeed, taken altogether, his speech was a rebuke of the hypocritical position of nearly every European “leader” present.  I would put “leader” in air quotes because they are not leading in any real sense.  They are rather herding their respective peoples in a direction not of the peoples’ choosing but of their own elitist direction.

It’s not news that most EU member nations as well as Great Britain, have been largely abusing their own nations’ people in favor of some kind of globalist scheme to promote mass migration from third world countries into Europe.  A few of these heads of state actually have taken a sane position here - one being Giorgia Meloni and others being Viktor Orbán and leaders in Poland, and have pushed back against this mass migration.  It has become clear that the effects of this migration, primarily from the Middle Eastern nations and north Africa, have been devastating to the cultures of European nations.

In deference to the customs of these migrant people, most of Europe has entirely wiped out centuries of their own customs and free speech and freedom of religion as well.  Vance cited the horrendous incident where an “asylum seeker” ploughed into a crowd of people in the very city which was hosting the “Security Conference”.  He alluded also to Romania actually annulling an election the outcome of which the elitist leaders disagreed with, adding that the government of Germany threatened similar action.  Germany has already outlawed “far left” and “far right” parties, denying them and their supporters any voice at all in the government and politics of their own country.   He also cited Brussels, where these leaders threatened to shut down social media in times of unrest the minute they suspect “hateful content” - which is determined to be whatever they think it is; Germany, where police have actually raided people who are suspected of posting “anti-feminist” ideas; Sweden, where a Christian was convicted of burning a Quran (his friend had been murdered by a migrant for doing this), a case wherein the judge said that the laws of free speech do not protect speech that is offensive to those who hold certain beliefs; England, where a man was arrested for standing 50 meters from an abortion clinic and praying silently, and Scotland, where people whose homes lie within a 200-meter “protective zone” might be found in violation of that country’s laws if they pray within their own homes.  These examples of the destruction of free expression in Europe should be chilling enough, even without the violence that is a constant fact of life now on that continent and Britain.  And while we’re on Britain, we should be aware that Tommy Robinson has been in solitary confinement for months now on the strength of a civil complaint, and is now being denied nutrition simply because on a family phone call someone put their phone on speaker.  It begs the question, why are we so afraid of Putin or Russia?  What would the Russian government do that these EU nations are not doing already?

The European leaders present for this were undoubtedly angry.  After all, what they wanted to hear was what the Trump administration was going to do for them, how we were going to strengthen the ties with Europe, how we were going to protect them from Russia, how we were going to champion our little puppet Zelenskyy in Ukraine.  They did not want to hear about manning up themselves, nor how foolish it looks to parade around pretending to be the force for good and for the people, defenders of human rights while outlawing free speech, political parties, free practice of religion, free press and nearly every other form of human freedom.  Efforts like NATO or even World War II, were supposed to be protections of people’s human rights, which is the only reason they existed.  NATO, the big bone of contention at the moment vis-a-vis Ukraine’s petition, was conceived and developed as a defense against Soviet aggression, to stop the expansion of that “evil empire”.  Now NATO is acting not as a treaty organization for peace, but rather has gone rogue, acting to continue its own existence 30 years after its mission was complete, by starting wars itself.  This is how the Ukraine war began.

Instead of a benign organization to prevent aggression, it is aggressing on its own, with help from malignant actors such as Victoria Nuland and these EU leaders, to provoke wars where they don’t exist.  The best course for NATO would be to disband at this point.  At best, and even without NATO’s own brand of expansionism and aggression, it is a hollow and weak organization which could not continue to exist without the central role of the US in equipping and funding it.  That European nations have turned against the will of their own peoples makes it ludicrous to continue such support.  What is it there to defend?  That was the question JD Vance asked.

No wonder everyone was angry.  German Chancellor Scholz in effect told Vance to mind his own damn business.  Germany didn’t need advice from an American Vice President.  Trouble is, they do.  They look absolutely ridiculous.  From one end of Europe to another - from Munich to Athens to Paris, Vienna to Brussels to Sweden, the weekend was marked by horrific violent attacks on Europeans by various groups of these so-called “asylum seekers” who should not even be there.  The government of Sweden has actually cried uncle and admitted that they have lost control in that once law-abiding and civilized nation.  Here they were, looking for the best deal they could make with Trump on NATO and other defense support, and here was Vance, telling them that they are a worse enemy to the people of Europe than Putin is.  And he is right.  He is right to point out the “threat from within”.  He truthfully admitted that America is not immune to this, but that it is worth the fight to claw freedom back.  He knew full well that he would hear a backlash from these weak and self-important European masters.  He wasn’t, and isn’t, afraid to speak the truth.  He did that in Munich and we should all be thankful for his courage.  It’s never easy to stand up in front of a hostile and angry crowd and tell them they are wrong.

We - America as well as Europe - are engaged in an existential battle to survive.  It is a question of whether civilization will flourish again or whether we will succumb to a world of darkness and repression.  It is nothing less.  Vance is right.  Scholz, Von  der Leyen, Macron and the rest are wrong on this one.  We might all disagree on some things, but that is the point.  We should be free to do that.  The situation in America and in Europe is nothing new.  It is decades in the making.  Vance pointed out that it is not a problem unique to Europe - that America, too, has suffered from this failure.  America just dealt with it through a massive correction - a popular and electoral win for Republicans.   If the truth leaves Scholz and others in Europe in a fit of apoplexy or tears, that is not the fault of the messenger, it’s not the fault of Vance.  He simply told them the hard truth.

The maraschino cherry on top of the whipped cream, so to speak, was the sobbing of the chairman of this silly Munich Security Conference, who, in the closing speech of the big conference, said that after Vance's speech it looks like we don't share values and thanked the EU "leaders" who reaffirmed the values THEY share.  What a show.  Notably, he was not shedding any tears for the 37 innocent citizens of his own city of Munich who were injured while the conference was in session by an Afghan "asylum seeker".  Nor for the mother and her child who subsequently died from their injuries.  He is disgusting, the embodiment of the word, "traitor".  And Zelenskyy, he claimed, was the model to look to for these "leaders".  Zelenskyy.  That's rich.  Zelenskyy has jailed jouralists (one, an American, Gonzalo Lira, died in his prison), closed churches, prosecuted priests, outlawed his political opponents, cancelled elections . . . is there any other "value" he has been looking out for?  America should just dump Zelenskyy, Ukraine and all of the member nations of the EU.  They are simply not worth it.  Anything they had worth saving is lost by now.  And, as German polizei are busy with pre-dawn raids on those who post cartoons, we should actually stand back, take an objective look at this, and agree.  The countries of Europe do NOT share our values.  We should recognize them for what they are - crooks, idiots and our enemy.
