SALLY MORRIS:  “JUST FOLLOWING ORDERS”

"It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate

I am the captain of my soul." --William Earnest Henley

We are going into another week of the Freedom Convoy truckers' protests throughout Canada. Every day that goes by is causing more awareness of the evil of the Canadian government – from the highest office holders all the way to the newest rookie on the police force.

Last time I wrote about the Ottawa police having stolen diesel fuel that had been donated by the “free” citizens of Ottawa in support of the truckers' mission – to take back the freedoms that all Canadians once enjoyed, their sacred rights under their Charter. When a court agreed with the citizens and the truckers, and said, in effect, that no, there is nothing illegal about having fuel, it's actually illegal to steal it, and ordered that the fuel be returned to the truckers, these Ottawa police returned cans that were half-diesel fuel, half-water. Obviously the intent was to destroy perhaps tens of millions of dollars' worth of vital equipment. A tractor like this costs about $250,000, give or take change, plus tax (which is even worse in Canada than here). There are approximately 100,000 of these tractors in Ottawa at the moment. You do the math. The point of the whole exercise began as an attempt to cause physical harm to the truckers and their families by leaving them in sub-zero temperatures to die of exposure. When that was thwarted it morphed into an attempt to destroy their means of making a living. Their idea of an ironic joke, apparently. We could assume this whole story were but an urban legend but for one thing – no one has denied it.

Then the Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, began by announcing that he would end restrictions and ended by threatening peaceful truckers parked in Ottawa with $100,000 fines and prison time in addition to lifting their commercial and personal licenses to drive. Hmmm Doesn't sound like any kind of accord to me. It fits well with Trudeau's characterization of these hard-working patriots as “misogynists, racists, homophobes, white supremacists, etc.” and saying that he will end the protests. Oh, and the people who have gathered in their nation's capitol to earnestly express their frustration and deepening concern for their country and their children's future in it, albeit without violence, are “a small fringe minority who hold unacceptable views”. If so, the views of a majority of Canadians are also “unacceptable”, and when that happens, the tables turn and the leaders' views are shown to be “unacceptable”.

This passion for freedom is contagious. It is now spreading to Australia. It is perhaps worth a moment of our time to take a look at who dropped in to Canberra this past week to express their concern. Perhaps this “fringe minority” might be dispatched with pranks and dirty tricks too, maybe?

I had mentioned the Alberta police breaking into trucks to steal winter survival gear and blankets, which is a very serious crime and endangerment, besides just being theft. But being light-fingered thieves isn't all they are good at among the Alberta constabulary! Today we have yet another story.

It seems that there were some excavators – equipment used in construction work – which were parked along the highway, seemingly in support of the protests, but just sitting there. The RCMP politely asked the owners to move them to a place where they were less visible and the owners, typical Canadians, politely complied with this request. Too bad for them. Because when they came back to their equipment a bit later they found that it had been destroyed. Well, you might say, it might have been some mischievous farm boys out for a frolic on a 30-below-zero day after they finished their chores. We don't know it was the RCMP! Oh, but we do. They were very satisfied with their work, too, by the way. Now, I am pretty damn sure that these excavator operators pay a lot of taxes to support the work of the RCMP and all other “law enforcement” personnel, from the dispatcher to the riot cop to the big guy in the office with the fancy imperial desk. But I would also bet that they didn't think their tax dollars were being used to send the RCMP out to commit crimes and vandalize the equipment they need to do the work that supports their tax payments. What a surprise, eh?

Yet we have this on the best authority – their own.

The owners have shown video of the damage committed. They claim, and who would doubt them, that this equipment will not be repairable. In other words, it was destroyed. For the reason that it could possibly be used in the future in a protest. Pause for a moment and think about that. You probably have a car. It could possibly be used in the future in commission of a crime, or maybe just sporting a bumper sticker that calls out the government in protest for something or be the means of transporting you to a peaceful demonstration. So would this mean that maybe the local police should, just to make sure that doesn't happen, be ordered to run around and pour sugar in your gas tank? And should a cop do this if he is ordered to?

Well, unless we are allowing the police to hire delinquent children, these cops need to be punished as adults. If they did this not on orders, what would you say? Does it make it better that they were ordered to and carried out such an order? These are serious questions, not rhetorical ones. Think about this. What if the government changed hands tomorrow and the OTHER side poured sugar in the OTHER people's tanks? Society can not survive and continue with this kind of “authority” in charge. It simply cannot.

We have seen nothing but scapegoating and persecution of “others” since the so-called “pandemic” was launched by the Fauci people. Businesses closed, schools closed, shops closed, transportation suspended, events canceled, the precious sports programs (which seem to have been the only thing any one really can get attention for) have been shut down or restricted to those who are willing to submit to dangerous medical experiments. Anyone who objects to this idiocy is “othered” and scapegoated. The press has falsified numbers and statistics and basically made up stories that are not true to support this. Some people even believe it. It's time to stop. Stop and step back and look at the mess. Look at the results of this.

A lot of us grew up watching movies about the Mafia. There'd be some Edward G. Robinson character ordering a hit on some hapless shop owner who hadn't paid up or some low-level juiceman who hadn't come in with the goods. He'd tell the muscle to go and break someone's legs or maybe just burn down his restaurant, or maybe just drive by and shoot the offender and kill him in cold blood. Some of us remember the testimony of Joe Valachi or maybe read the Valachi Papers. I did. I remember this. It was quite a sensation back in 1963 – and that's saying something, given the year. His testimony was full of that kind of “persuasion” and “punishment”. Now tell me how the government(s) of Canada are any different in their intentions? I mean, all the Capos wanted was a little discipline, after all. They could be nice as could be if no one ever crossed them. The rest is “just business”.

When are we going to put a stop to this? How shall it be done? I'm sure these excavator operators will have to file insurance claims. What will the insurance companies do? Can they get out of paying for damages if the damages are caused by the criminal acts of police acting on orders? I'd say they should pay up and then sue the government and every agent down to the last little rookie and the QC's ought to prosecute them on criminal charges after the government forks over to the insurance companies. Insurance companies cannot make payments out of thin air any more than the excavator operators can. They need to get their money and that money will have to come from taxes. Because I'm pretty sure that the cops who destroyed at least three (admitted to) excavators at Coutts this week aren't worth that kind of money in a lifetime of ticket serving and shoving old ladies.

I wonder how ardently these operators, truck drivers, restaurant owners, school children, gym owners, shop keepers, insurance companies, veterans, farmers and contractors will support the police when push comes to shove (as it has literally throughout Canada in the past few days)? I wonder whether, when it comes to deciding whether to hire private security or beef up the police, there will be long deliberation. I wonder how long it will take to descend into necessary vigilantism. I wonder how many little blue porch lights will go out over the next few weeks. If I had one (and I don't, by the way) mine would be snuffed tonight. Maybe police who disagree with this behavior of rogue police should come forward and just say so. It might be a healthy thing to do and might shore up people's waning trust.  We know that the truckers have invited the police to join them.  A few decent ones actually have done so.

And think about the damage to our culture, our society, when the people we hire and tell our kids to obey and on whom we depend to make sure we are safe and our property is protected, are out in the dark of night, destroying vital equipment that they have asked owners to move to where they can't be seen doing it. What kind of message is this? I listened to the recording of the self-satisfied RCMP officer. He sounded like he considered his work a job well done. Mission accomplished. Meanwhile, his work left several people jobless until at least new equipment can be found and purchased. It will cost someone a lot of money. Some innocent person. It will delay planned work. In case you are wondering (I was) how much a new excavator costs, they run from $100,000 to $500,000 each. So potentially, that night's work was worth $1.5 million. Nice. These were not “mini” excavators, by the way, but the full-size equipment. Presumably they will move on the the little ones later. Or maybe they will expect that everyone will go and hide their equipment in a shed somewhere and hope for the best, having gotten the point. That's their idea of crowd control and “keeping the peace”, I guess. If I lived in Canada I sure would never call the police to my house for anything – if they saw something they liked they'd just “seize” it or come back and get it after the sun goes down.

This cannot be allowed. It is my own belief that we should start by punishing most severely those low-level guys they send out to do the dirty work. The hit men. The muscle. The lower on the totem pole they sit they more severely they should be punished. Why? First, because they are easily identified. If they don't own up to the work themselves, in hopes of a pat on the head from “daddy”, they will be promptly ratted out either by their fellow low-lifes or by the guy higher up who is just selling them out. After all, you cannot do this without your “soldiers”, right? Without the lieutenants and the grunts, the Capos can't get the job done because they don't like to get their hands dirty. So start with the little guys and work up to the top. The little guys will eventually rat out the bigger guys. It's not good enough to point fingers at politicians and bureau chiefs and police chiefs and fire them. They go on and get other appointments when the wind blows their way. No. The ones who need to be fully prosecuted are the guys who went out that day with their foam and their wire cutters and destroyed someone's property. It is never appropriate to destroy property – ever. If something is used unlawfully there are legal ways to deal with it.

None of this has been legal – not the shutdowns or violations of Constitutional or Charter rights, not the physical abuse of innocent people, not the destruction of property and not the defamation of citizens for simply protesting and demanding their freedom back, their right to work. At sometime in the near future there will have to be an accounting. Hospitals that kidnap and hold hostage and kill patients, doctors who lie about the risks and inject innocent patients, governments that trample rights of people in defiance of the law itself, rogue police forces such as the Ottawa police or the RCMP, must be held accountable. The alternative is unthinkable in a civilized society. There have been times when a population has been driven by the abuses of its government to act to change things. It happened in America in 1776. It happened in France in 1789. It happened in Russia in 1917. It happened in Romania in 1989. Strange – it's always such a surprise to the fallen leaders when it finally happens. They are led by the forbearance of peace-loving people into believing that they can get away with anything until finally they cross a line.

The line, it appears, is close at hand. Let us hope that these “leaders” (and President* Biden) find the wisdom somewhere, somehow, to see what is happening, to recognize that they have gone way too far and that it is in their interest as well as ours, that they stop what they are doing, apologize, do all in their power to limit any further loss to the people and do all they can to make them whole. Otherwise they should see if they can get in touch with Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu and seek their advice.
