Last weekend I posted a special Valentine’s Day greeting - the incomparable Jose Jose singing “Amor, Amor”.  I promised that I would send a follow-up on Valentine’s Day. Trouble is, I played out of town last evening and I never get anything done before I go to a gig, and it happened that we had to drive home in a blizzard last night in an iffy car.  Thank goodness it worked like a charm and got us home safely, but we were going at about 20-25 miles per hour. It takes a long time to get home at that rate. So, long story short I didn’t get anything posted. Way too cold and too tired!

So here we are a day late, but what the heck - it’s still the middle of February and we can all use something beautiful, so here it is.  This is the same song. Only this time it is performed by a young man some 40 years later, Manuel Jose, a Colombian. The thing is he was told by his mother that he is the son of Jose Jose, the result of a whirlwind affair during a tour.  There is some controversy because Jose Jose’s elder son objects and says it isn’t so. There have been numerous DNA tests, some negative, others positive. There is something shady about the negative one as a phone call there by a journalist revealed that they have never, ever done DNA testing - pregnancy and drug testing only.  Never DNA. So this is not “proven”. However, you have heard Jose Jose. Now you have an opportunity to hear Manuel Jose (his legal name is Brayan Fanier Alvarez Rojas). Here is “Amor, Amor”.  (The lyrics are translated in last Sunday’s article.)  I will also link another feature.  You may compare and decide for yourself.  To me, it sounds like one singer doubling himself.  It is my belief that this is without question the son of Jose Jose.  It’s not important in any financial or inheritance terms - Jose Jose died in severe poverty.  But in terms of Manuel Jose’s desire to know his father and be known to him and by him it was of paramount importance to him.  I think he is right - in his intention and in the fact of his birth. Monday he has a court date with the older son in Mexico.
