SALLY MORRIS: OLD NEOCONS SHOULD FADE AWAY
The more we think about the Ukraine war, the more it seems that it resembles the early stages of World War I, not World War II.
In a recent interview on News Nation, one-time pundit George WIll expressed deep concern that we aren’t doing enough to enmesh ourselves and our future in the morass of the Ukraine war. As with all similar neocons, Will’s big fear is “Putin”, who he believes is on a mission of conquest of all of Europe. If America is to remain “relevant”, he says, we must dig in and commit our nation to the “cause” in solidarity with the huge success that is the EU.
What has been coming through recently, though, is the crumbling of the EU itself. Sure, it’s a big entity, but it’s also a big failure. Europe has already lost the war with Islam, it would seem, and appears to be well satisfied at the head-of-state level, even if the people of Europe are suffering. Europe is a continent. It was never a state and should not try to be one. The nations of the European continent have always had their own strengths and their own interests. Attempting to bind Greece to Denmark or Spain to Poland is idiotic. We made this folly possible because since our “relevance” in WWII we have largely funded all of Europe’s defenses, enabling them to use their own resources to get into this kind of mischief.
Putin had every right and need to claim the Crimea. That has been historically a part of Russia for a thousand years. It is the one warm water port Russia has always had. The people of Crimea wanted Russia to control this area. It isn’t an issue, or should not be. The collective West - the powerful and important EU, et al, signed peace accords with Putin which ensured that NATO would not expand into the Ukraine. Germany’s former chancellor, Angela Merkel, openly admitted that this was no more than a ruse to buy time to arm up to go to war with Russia! It was a laugh-fest for the West, while Putin took it in good faith. When the US replaced a duly elected president in the Ukraine with the puppet, Zelenskyy, and then officially urged that country’s membership in NATO - bringing NATO right up to Russia’s extensive southern border and not only that, building a network of bio weapons labs along the border and engaging in a variety of corrupt activities-for-profit by some free-lancing Americans, it made it inevitable that Russia must respond with something more than gullible smiling and nodding.
We asked for this war and we finally got it. Europe is standing on the sidelines, joining the pathetic Zelenskyy in demands for more money, more arms from America. While Biden was a pushover - or at least his autopen was - Trump had to play “4-D chess” with the American people. He simply sends the money and goods to a third party who then hands it off, minus a few bucks, of course, to Zelenskyy. Trump thought he could just throw President Z out of the White House by the seat of his pants and MAGA would cheer and call it “victory” and “peace”, all at the hands of the great 4-D wizard. Did that work? Time will tell.
Putin is no more a “sociopath” than George Will is, perhaps less than WIll. After all, unless Will is in on the take along with the board of Burisma, he would have to be a sociopath to the bone to want to see this war continue. What would be the end goal here? Membership in the EU, so that after years of needless war imposed by Washington and the CIA, the Ukrainian people (what’s left of them) could then experience the cultural enrichment the EU is imposing on France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain and all of the other entitled members? Maybe after years of self-destruction by Zelenskyy, the only thing that would be a step down would be to have an influx of Afghanis or Pakistanis. After all, when you take a look at Britain, all you can do is marvel at the success of this kind of policy.
I have said this before. If I were a Ukrainian mother, the first wish of my heart would be for America to just take their drones and guns and “supplies” and go the hell home. They might not even know this, but we have plenty to do here at home. Get the feces off of our streets. Get the homeless off of the park benches. Stop looting and free-fall shoplifting. Quit encouraging “transgender care”, maybe? Scrap our stupid “educational system” and support home school at least until we are able to educate our kids in our schools. Stop the fentanyl. Shut down our excessive welfare drain and deport illegal alien criminals. Pay down our national debt before we drown in it. Stay out of conflicts which could result in nuclear war, perhaps? There are a lot of better things for Americans to occupy ourselves with than the corrupt politics of the Ukraine and the intrigue promoted by our CIA. In fact, since that agency has become more of an instigator of war than an organ of intelligence collection, maybe we should start by shutting that down.
We should get out of NATO. Had our people ever been educated we would all know how World War I was ignited. Alliances just like NATO did that. What should have been a housekeeping task between Austria and Serbia became the foundation of all of the conflict we have had since 1914. Without those alliances and that unnecessary and unwarranted war against the powers of central Europe, there would not have been a World War II. And without that no cold war. Remember that it was WWI that gave the Bolsheviks the opportunity to overthrow the government in Russia and begin that sad chapter. And while we are on the topic of WWII, it is well to remember that the leadership of the Ukraine during that period was allied closely with Nazi Germany. While, considering that the alternative was Stalin, it is understandable, It was said that they were more fanatical than the German Nazis, which might be nit-picking, but remember that this is also the current leadership in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian nation is not a “free country”. Zelenskyy cancelled elections so as not to have to get the approval of the people. He shuttered churches, shut down the press and jailed journalists. Remember Gonzalo Lira? Look him up. He was an independent journalist before he was jailed and killed in prison there, and by the way, an American citizen. Do we care? Not the idiots who wave the blue and yellow neo-Nazi Ukrainian flags and wear them on their lapels. But then, being informed is no longer necessary to direct policy.
If we wanted the Ukrainian nation to remain intact and the carnage and destruction of infrastructure and economy to stop over there, the best thing we could possibly do is get out. Stop fueling it with our tax dollars. And put a halt to Trump’s little game of “pass the money to NATO”. Putin would have gone home in 2022, had we not ordered war instead of peace. We ordered WAR. We stomped out any hope of peace or prosperity there. To put things in perspective and to counter the George Will neocons, think about this. It has been 34 years since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The satellite nations such as Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Estonia, etc., have controlled their own countries without interference from Russia since that era. Which of these countries has had to fear the incursion of Russian forces? Not the Czech Republic, not Poland, not Slovenia, not Romania, not Lithuania. Not even the Ukraine, until NATO interfered and brought war. NATO should have been abandoned by 1991. Now we can see why.
Here is an alternate history we might have pursued: When, in 1991, the Soviet empire came to an inglorious end, we could have treated the Russians the same way we treated the Polish people and their new government, or any other peaceful nation. Indeed, Russia and her people undoubtedly expected to become our partners and allies. The aggression of the communist Soviets was no longer a factor. We could have helped cement a friendly relationship with the Russians. But when we no longer had this aggressor, some people began to lose money. Unfortunately, there is a lot of money to be made out of people’s fear of each other. It was in Russia’s interest, however, to follow a path of peace and build its economy and improve the lives of its people, just as it would be for Americans. In fact such a bond would have been invaluable right now. We do, or should, have a common enemy - the expansion of militant Islam. Russia could have been a bulwark against this. Russia could have become a free and strong ally. But certain people would lose money on that deal.
As to Europe, any fool can see how that continent has declined since the founding of the EU. Cathedrals have been demolished and burned down, it is no longer safe to walk in the streets, say nothing of enjoy a sidewalk cafe. The parks which used to be beautiful ornaments in European cities, hosting afternoon concerts, bedecked with gardens are now filled with the same kinds of homeless camps of dangerous criminals and terrorists that we see in our “liberal” led American cities. We can see the value of the EU. And the EU stole the autonomy and even representation of the peoples of Europe. Why we should want to stand by that is a mystery.
We could ascribe Will’s stupidity to some kind of age-related mental decline or dotage, but he might find an audience. If so, I hope they will remember that our Border Patrol and other security agencies have been finding the same armaments and equipment we gave to Zelenskyy in the hands of the cartels that rule Mexico and would rule the US. It would appear, then, that SOMEONE in the Ukraine is selling or otherwise dealing our donations to the scheme for money or other favors. Go figure. What can we possibly gain by this?
If Putin is not rushing to finish off this war, it might not be so much that he doesn’t have the ability to take Kiev, but it might be that since we have revealed ourselves as Russia’s enemy (just check in with Lindsey Graham and his friends), he might have a vested interest in driving America’s pointless impoverishment. We have shown that WE can’t win that war. The EU and NATO can’t win it. Zelenskyy doesn’t even want to end it (perhaps for the same reason that Blackrock likes it to continue). Russia knows that the longer this is prolonged, the more money and equipment we will be throwing into it. It’s a loser for us, for Trump. That could make it look like a winner to Russia. As I said, it didn’t need to be that way. We made it that way. Instead of congratulating the people of Russia on their freedom and supporting their path to peace, we panicked at not having an enemy and sabotaged it. So maybe, given that state of affairs, it is in Russia’s interest to drain our resources. Putin could walk into Kiev whenever he wanted to.
George WIll proves once again that he is a vacuous, hopeless old neocon, one of those who have thrived on worldwide conflict and destruction. He is a parasite, in other words. He has always been a parasite, but for years under RINO administrations like that of the Bush dynasty, took cover under the popular perception that these RINOs were better than the “other” party. They weren’t, of course, only more dishonest.
