SALLY MORRIS:  PLEASE STOP APOLOGIZING

Is it just me??  I don’t know - I don’t think I’m alone in this.  I am sickened and disgusted by the apology parade.  You know, none of us is perfect, few claim to be.  We have absolutely no right to demand perfection from people who have outperformed us.  And yet it goes on and on and droning on.  One after another successful celebrity pops his head out of his mansion and uses the misery of riot-torn cities and their unfortunate dwellers to wallow in his phony, self-serving white guilt.  We all got a gut-full of the “public service” pastiche of extraordinarily successful and wealthy stars “taking responsibility” - they faked a no-make-up look to appear to be self-effacing and sincere . . . or whatever.  They, each in turn, weighed in, dumping their guilt in front of us (“I take responsibility . . . “), apparently looking for approval, like some poor dog bringing us garbage.  They were all very vague - probably didn’t really want anyone to actually prosecute them or anything, just wanted to unload and purge themselves of all their accumulation of excess guilt at our expense.  Frankly, I’m with them.  Let’s get the specifics and press charges on these phony jerks.  Whose life did they just make better?  It was such an obvious a$$-kissing ceremony, and carried out like some kind of lame group therapy session.  One thing it didn’t accomplish was helping to improve anything - one thing it did accomplish was encouraging a lot of impressionable people to blame someone else for their problems instead of solving them.

But it never ends with just one revolting example.  Once that is out everyone else has to chime in, just to be with the “in” crowd - Kristin Bell put in her two-cents’ worth (and over-priced at that) for being so miserable and callous and unfeeling as to voice a black cartoon character.  You know I remember when "Matt Dillon" was voiced on the radio by Broderick Crawford.  I’d hate to have been his horse.  It’s called “acting”, Kristin.  Now it’s extending beyond the “race” issue - Halley Berry was excited to announce she was considering playing  the part of a trans-person.  Whatever that is.  Suddenly she was taken to the woodshed because what would she know about the harrowing life and angst of a trans-person?  Not that she’s an actress or anything like that.  So, duly shamed, or self-shamed, anyway, she dropped out of the role.  Good for her!

Today the writer and the producer of the hit Broadway musical, Hamilton, added their bit to the mounting pile of rotten and useless garbage with their heartfelt apologies.   You will remember the cast as the ones who rewarded Vice President Pence’s support of their show by slapping him in the face, in effect, attempting to humiliate him (for no reason) during the curtain call.  The show employed hundreds of tech crew and actors, musicians, advertisers and many others, of all races, and inspired many show-goers.  Disney Plus just inked a deal streaming it on their channel.  The reason?  These woke guys just didn’t get enough politics into the show.  They had it confused with entertainment, apparently, and are now devastated at their inadequacy and insensitivity and now want to suck up and make amends by supporting various “social justice” organizations.  Well, that’s a pathetic way to handle a show which could have made a living for many people of all colors.  Way to go, guys.  I have not seen the show, which is fine with me, so I don’t know if we are supposed to hate Hamilton now?  Not sure.  It does seem that this writer/director and producer should, along with the other people employed on the show, including the people who printed the posters and programs and placed the advertising, etc., and the publications who sold space for the ads, etc., gather up all the money they earned on this project and turn it over to bail out some more looters somewhere.

Hamilton, for the college crowd who wouldn’t know, was illegitimate, born to a single mother in dire poverty in the West Indies.  Left an orphan at around age 12, he buried his mother, managed to find work - hard work - and became proficient enough with math and money management to rate his mentor’s support to go to King’s College in New York (now Columbia).  He was Washington’s aide-de-camp and invaluable assistant throughout the Revolutionary War, which was not what you’d call a walk in the park, with great hunger, freezing weather, lack of warm clothing and a general feeling that no one knew or cared of their sacrifice back in Philadelphia.  He endured slights due to his birth  all his life.  But he was highly intelligent and capable, learned and hard-working.  He was an eloquent writer and it was his skill which set in motion a financial system which enabled the fledgling nation, burdened with a staggering debt and no security whatsoever among other powerful nations, to survive - and flourish.  He contributed greatly to the debate and design of the Constitution and was one of its most effective promoters, writing the majority of the Federalist Papers.  (Pardon me - if you are in college, just look them up.)  He was “flawed”, to be sure.  He was temperamental, at times disastrously so, proud, sometimes unfaithful to his wife.  Not perfect.  He was not evil.  Don’t apologize for him.

We lurch on.  This afternoon I heard a couple of unattractive white lesbian college girls “sing” their uninspired and disgusting “song” based on “God Bless the USA” (of Lee Greenwood fame).  The song is a big hit with a lot of patriotic Americans, a little more “country” than I like, but still, a sound and decent sentiment.  Anway, these two brats, both in swimsuits, we can assume lounging on a boat on a lake when they came up with this, go on to insult everything American  - on Tik Tok.  Now one could imagine how they would enjoy the summer in Wuhan or Beijing - or maybe in the west of China where they have imprisoned millions of Uighars, shaved their heads, and blood-typed them for organ donorship, just for being Uighars.  Or you could substitute Tibetans or Hong Kong residents, for that matter.  Or how well they’d do with their little swimsuits in Iran.  And we can only guess at what wonderful things they have done to make America a better place.  What we do know is they are lapping up the lazy days of summer with their clever little ditty and while they would be absolute wreckage if they were in China, the CCP will, we can depend, make good use of their execrable “lyric”.

I think we should all, black, white, Indian, Asian, Hispanic, call for an end of apologies.  We are not only making each other sick, we are making ourselves sick.  A culture that spends its waking hours apologizing for just being is a culture about to die.  We need to stop the dying.  When you hear someone apologize, take a verbal swing at him.  No - don’t actually hit him - just take him down verbally.  They need to stop building themselves up by apologizing for being Americans.  We have a lot to be proud of in our culture and a lot to look up to and emulate among our country’s heroes, and I don’t mean these street thugs - I mean Hamilton, Jefferson, Washington, Lincoln, Frederick Douglass (whose statue was just destroyed in Rochester, NY), and yes, Robert E. Lee.

And, by the way, please let your Congressmen and Senators know that you support banning Tik Tok.  This isn’t a “free speech” issue at all.  No one is suggesting we should not have free speech - just ban the Tik Tok platform. It is being used to mine data and now, with these wasted lives, like the two “chanteuses” it is a propaganda tool for them.

I suppose, though, that we should really not blame any of these stupid twits for their stupid “public service” messages or their attempts at - what?  Satire?  Whatever it is.  None of them has learned anything else.  And who should we blame for that?  Scholars attending our colleges and universities think they are supporting feminism when they make and carry a sign that says, “End Women’s Suffrage”.  When people are this desperately ignorant of not only  our history and Constitution, but even our language itself, we have to blame whoever was supposed to ensure their education.  Their parents.  Sorry.  There it is.  You had no business dumping the kids off at school and leaving it at that.  So “take responsibility” for that.  Start trying to remedy it today for the next generation just in case we survive this generation.
