SALLY MORRIS:  SHOULD AMERICA GIVE POLITICAL ASYLUM TO TOMMY ROBINSON?

UPDATE:  Tommy has just been sentenced to six months in prison on top of the three months that had previously been suspended, a total of nine months in a Muslim gang-controlled prison.  Nine months in forced solitary confinement. Ten weeks was nearly enough to kill him and left him in poor health, physically and emotionally. Not only Tommy serves this sentence, but his family is serving it as well, deprived of their dad.

We should hold all of those responsible for this travesty, including those in a position to help who have not done so.  This includes our own country’s leadership. I have personally contacted North Dakota’s senators’ and Senator Cruz’s offices.  I asked them to support Robinson’s petition for political asylum. Thus far there has been dead silence from all of them as well as the president.  Free speech is an essential component in our other freedoms. A free press ensures an informed public. I think we can judge the real commitment of these people to our own freedom by their failure to react to this.  I am not suprised at our president, but Cruz is a disappointment for sure.

Also note, that in a global era, other nations’ restrictions apparently are enforced against citizens of "free" nations.  Ezra Levant just found that one of his Tweets was deleted by Pakistan.  In other words, we are subject to Pakistan’s blasphemy and other laws even while in our own countries.  Levant is a Canadian citizen. We must not be sanguine about the loss of freedom elsewhere - especially if that “elsewhere” is one of the former bastions of “freedom”.

Those who have followed the miserable saga of Tommy Robinson (Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) and his interminable efforts to expose and stop Muslim-dominated grooming gangs operating throughout his native England, know by now that he was wrongfully convicted - of journalism - by Britain’s highest court, after these charges had been rejected by an appellate court.  Now Robinson has taken the only course open to him: asking President Trump for political asylum. Should America grant this request?

The simple facts are these:  Robinson has been speaking boldly out about rape gangs which have destroyed the lives of countless young girls in his country.  Estimates are above one million - or were by early 2015 (https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/250972/one-million-child-victims-muslim-rape-gangs-uk-arnold-ahlert).  This has been a massive embarrassment to the complicit British government.  Consequently Robinson has been pursued by its minions and their domesticated, well-fed press.  On one occasion he was serving a prison sentence among Muslim inmates (who actually run British prisons and use them to recruit, 24/7) when he was beaten so badly he was left unconscious and lost all of his teeth.  But he survived. He went back on the hustings. He continued to spread the truth.

He had been found “in contempt of court” and was on what we call probation when he went to livestream outside of a sentencing hearing for a convicted group of mostly Pakistani groomers.  He carefully researched the law to make sure that he was well within it. He maintained a careful distance from the courthouse. He refrained punctiliously from characterising the convicts as anything other than “alleged” perpetrators.  He was respectful, asking only, “How do you feel about your sentencing?” He did not use obscene or profane language, he refrained from any physical contact and did not follow them when they declined to comment. Suddenly, on cue, police who had been watching for most of an hour, descended and grabbed him, whisking him off the street and into a waiting van.  He was taken to a “hearing” which lasted approximately ten minutes (in other words there was no way any judge could have watched his entire live stream), sentenced on the spot and taken directly to prison. His lawyer was not present, nor advised that he was in court, but was told by telephone that he had been set free!

Thus began a ten-week ordeal of solitary confinement.  He was freed only through the forthright efforts of a Canadian journalist, Ezra Levant, and emerged having lost 40 pounds from his enforced diet of one can of tuna and one piece of fruit per day, all his allowance permitted him to purchase, prison food being unsafe.  He appealed and the verdict was forcefully overturned. However, the appellate judge allowed the government to start over from scratch - reversed without prejudice. This was the trial which ended last week with another “guilty” verdict. There was no case. Robinson provided copious evidence of his innocence and the failure of the court to have advised any reporter of any restrictions, proved beyond doubt that everything he said had already been published by none other than the government’s own BBC, that he could not have been guilty of “derailing” a trial inasmuch as the convictions and sentences of the rape gang members stood.  In short, Robinson was unabashedly railroaded in a process resembling a Stalinist show trial more than anything. Now he awaits sentencing, which is certain to be prison. He could be sentenced to two years, which he cannot be expected to survive. Had he committed a crime we could look the other way, but he has committed no crime.

Robinson has a family of young children and a wife.  He is devoted to his parents and his extended family.  They have all been threatened, both while he was in prison and out of prison.  He has been threatened by the criminal element among Muslims and hounded by his own government.  There is not room here to list the transgressions against him. Throughout ten years of fearlessly speaking out he has been supported by vast numbers of working-class English, many of them Muslim, many of them Sikh.  He has never been a bigot or a racist and those who know him have said as much. (See Robinson’s speech at Oxford Union: https://www.actforcanada.ca/l/tommy-robinson-s-full-address-at-the-oxford-union/.) But he is a huge embarrassment to Theresa May’s government.  For that he must be silenced, even if it must be by crushing him psychologically in prison - or by death.

Robinson has come to the end of what he can accomplish now.  There is literally no way forward for him in his homeland. He has been banned from all social media, the postal service will not deliver his mail.  He is told to leave restaurants and marched out of town with his family simply because he is Tommy Robinson. Of course the press and media refuse to mention his name unless it is to slander him.  Now he wants only freedom for himself, he wants to spend time with his wife and children, he wants them to live in freedom and some degree of safety and dignity. Imagine young children subjected to this.  He has done it for them but he can’t any longer. The time has come to leave England, much as our own Founders’ ancestors did, to seek the freedoms we built into our Constitution and Bill of Rights. He doesn’t want free health care, he doesn’t ask for free housing, free food, nor a free car, not even a plane ticket to a midwestern town - just freedom, that’s all.  And a chance to live his life. Robinson is 36 years old. His life should still be ahead of him.

It is time now for Americans who believe in the sacred freedoms in our own Bill of Rights, especially the First Right - that of freedom of speech, religion, press and assembly - to extend this to a man who has risked all to give a voice to those who have been mute, silenced by fear and oppression in his own homeland.  It is fine to meet the Queen. It is fine to reference the Britain of the past whose back we had in two world wars, whom we have regarded as a like-minded, freedom-loving ally. But now it is time for reality. Britain has lost its way. There is no reason why we should stand by and allow a lone man, however courageous, to pay such a price for the truth.  We must call upon the President to offer Robinson and his family asylum in the Land of the Free. Let’s call it a late birthday present to America.
