SALLY MORRIS:  STATE OF EMERGENCY

Cambridge Dictionary - emergency:  something dangerous or serious, such as an accident, that happens suddenly or unexpectedly and needs fast action in order to avoid harmful results

Other dictionaries offer basically the same definitions as Cambridge.  They indicate a sudden, unexpected and dangerous circumstance which needs an immediate response.

The situation prevailing in Ukraine is not an “emergency” to the United States.  Not only is it not “unexpected” or “sudden”, it has been orchestrated by the United States with toady-like help from European allies.  We have no emergency involving Ukraine.  Yet.

We could, of course, provoke an emergency if we keep trying to goad Russia into attacking us.

In the meantime Joe Biden is doing his utmost best to accomplish this.  How?  By impoverishing our own people and our own military in throwing another $1 billion hard-earned American money into the effort to make a hero out of Volodymir Zelenskyy.

We have seen the term “emergency” bandied about quite a bit in the past three years or so.  It always has the same basic meaning for us - oppression and theft of our resources by those in charge.  Tim Walz, erstwhile governor of Minnesota, is one fine example of this.  He used “emergency powers” to inflict damage across his state through the device of “covid”.  People lost their jobs, schools and businesses were closed, entrepreneurs and shopkeepers were thrown into jail for attempting to go about their work and find a way to pay their employees.  Funds were appropriated.  Freedoms were squelched - freedom of speech, in particular.  People were forced to wear unhealthy and encumbering masks to school, to work, to shop, just about everywhere.  Hordes of karens were unleashed to act as petty administrators of these diktats.

Our country, once the world’s greatest bastion of freedom, was turned into a gulag of misery and oppression, all on the pretext of an “emergency”.  In the case of Walz, this “emergency” never ended.  He simply extended it again and again . . . and again.  As one who suffered loss of employment and income due to this malfeasance, I know of several businesses which were lost entirely - never to re-open.  Two of them employed my services, locally owned restaurants where I played music.  Another of my favorite local eateries was fined and forcibly closed.  This outrage was duplicated from coast to coast with few exceptions.  Our country looked less like home and more like prison every day.  We may never return to what we once enjoyed as “normal life” here.

Now President* Biden is using the “emergency” gimmick to repeatedly send our hard-earned tax dollars (plus more we haven’t earned yet) to Ukraine.  Why?  What “emergency” has he found over there?  He is responsible for the destruction, we might say.  After all, had a more competent and sane person been holding office Russia would not have been prodded into an invasion of its neighbor and Ukraine would have gone about its usual business of drug and human trafficking, bioweapons labs and money laundering with a side of agriculture for another hundred years perhaps.  But no.  We had to have a war, Biden figured.  He stuck his finger in Putin’s eye and Putin bit back.  So now we have what Biden makes free to call an “emergency” - which in his little eyes means that he has some right to steal our money and provide it to his pet boy, Volodymir.

I propose, since our dictionaries are generally obliging in tailoring their content to our whim of the moment, that we declare an “emergency” and demand that they eliminate this word from the English language.  We will permit no more emergencies of any kind, no more “elected” leaders will use the term “emergency” to usurp powers not given them, to step outside the law and become dictators and thieves.  Because that is exactly what they have been doing.

In the 21st Century there is no need for any governor or president to ever have “emergency powers”.  This concept might once have been useful, in the era before instant communication.  The idea was supposed to be that a legislature or Congress might not have time to respond to a real emergency if they were not already assembled in the capital.  However, one thing “covid” proved is that you can hold almost any kind of meeting via technology - phones, computers, etc.  A vote can now be taken without everyone physically in the same room.  Debate can occur without physical presence.  A decision can be reached by the representatives elected by the people to make it.  There is simply no longer any need for a president or a governor to have this authority.  Anyone who assumes such power for more than a day is nothing but a usurper.

Our national debt is a disgrace.  Our economy is a mess.  Our foreign relations are the worse for virtually every dollar we have spent overseas.  Our military is an embarrassment.  If we continue to live under “emergencies” we will never know anything else.  It’s just time to stop.  These fake “emergencies” will otherwise create a genuine emergency.  Maybe just national bankruptcy.  Or maybe a nuclear disaster.

I agree. These Communists create problems, and their solution is to take more of our freedoms away. - M.R.
