Today for my “Sunday Special” I thought I would share some beautiful music on the guitar - so nice on a cold day when you want an excuse to stay warm.  

The music of Manuel Maria Ponce, of Mexico should warm us up.  Here it is played with great simplicity and sensitivity by Stefano Tracanelli.  This has long been one of my favorite melodies. I remember a lovely version my mother had in one of those great old albums of wax 78s by Xavier Cugat.  Someday I hope to find another copy of that set! In the meantime, I will bask in the warmth of Tracanelli’s beautiful rendition.

From Spain comes the mysterious and intriguing music of Franciso Tarrega - “Capricho Arabe”, here played by Amanda Whittingham:

You probably think of “Feliz Navidad” when you hear his name, but you really need to hear Jose Feliciano play “Malagueña”, a folk music tradition from southern Spain:

Now, here is a departure - a pensive, soulful, waltz for those of us who remember youthfulo romance of a golden summer of long ago - “Dreams of a Russian Summer” played by Tatyana Ryzhkova, something for a long winter’s night:
