SALLY MORRIS: SWEDEN, USA
I know - weekends have become something special for me at the Beacon - a bit of time off, as it were, from the problems and issues on Page One and the six o’clock news, but we are in the midst of a lot of decision making here with regard to our acceptance of immigrants. It is an easy fix for Trump to side-step dealing with making a national policy regarding this issue, which is properly a national issue. He has been negligent here, but as long as it has been shoved down the road to us locally to make foreign policy, let’s look at the polilcy of a nation which has received immigrants in large numbers. And look at this with the awareness that numbers will not be the numbers we accept, but the numbers those numbers produce in a few years’ time.
I won’t go on here, but compare the news we get out of, say, Czechoslovakia, with what we hear on a daily basis from most all of Europe which has subscribed to Angela Merkel’s promotion of immigration. Here we have Sweden, which has been historically fairly homogenous as to ethnicity, religion, history and culture in general. It has been historically peaceful to the point of being almost boring. Maybe that was the problem. “Boring” was severely underrated, it seems. So - please share this with your city councilmen, your mayor, your county commissioners, even your state and national representatives. Without further ado - I give you Sweden today:
