SALLY MORRIS: THE “PEOPLE’S HOUSE” GAS-LIGHTING THE PEOPLE
When is a search for the truth a “distraction”?
Answer: When the truth might exonerate the intended target of the House of Representatives.
Here’s the thing. Since his unexpected election in 2016, Democrats have been intent in the purpose of getting rid of Donald Trump. Any excuse or none is good enough. Doubtless a reason could be found for getting rid of just about anyone, but for some reason the densely opaque Democrats of 2019 have settled on a phone call Trump made after the election of a popular comedian to the presidency of Ukraine.
The current president of Ukraine began his political career playing the part of a schoolteacher who gets elected president on a Ukrainian television show. So for some reason he decided to do it for real. Upon his election, Trump called to congratulate him, as is his wont, no matter who or what (last month he congratulated the Chinese tyrants on their 70th anniversary of successful oppression of more than a billion victims). In the course of his conversation, he asked a question to which any of us might have wanted an answer: what was the reason for then-Vice President Joe Biden’s trip to look into the investigation underway of his son Hunter by the government of Ukraine. Hunter was at the time drawing what was thought to be $50,000/month as a member of a gas board in Ukraine (it is now up to $83,000/month). Biden had bragged that he had basically sorted out Ukraine, threatening to withhold American aid to that nation unless this investigation of an oligarch, who had been responsible for the hiring of Hunter, was aborted. (According to NPR, all of this has been “debunked”. It is all true but it has been “debunked”. It has been “debunked” because there is no “evidence of a ‘quid pro quo’”. No charges were ever filed against the oligarch or Hunter Biden. Never mind that the Vice President himself basically confirmed the whole plot.)
Now, if I were a U.S. president, I would consider the machinations of the former administration with regard to international relations a matter of state and a responsibility to get to the bottom of. I would have just asked out of basic, normal human curiosity. You probably would as well.
Little did anyone know that such a question would be seen as an impeachable offense. Apparently wondering why a derelict who was kicked out of the Navy because he was caught with a crack pipe, who really has never accumulated any real world work experience should be suddenly the beneficiary of a monthly income of $83,000 is now a crime. Oh, and by the way, he is the son of the Vice President of the United States. (If we can get Eric Camarillo on the stand we could find out whether it was $50K or $83k.) The suggestion here is that Trump attempted to bribe the newly-elected president of Ukraine to sully the reputation of a potential political rival in 2020.
There is so much stupid about this that it is difficult to even begin. Joe Biden already dirtied up his own reputation simply by bragging about it at the time. There wasn’t really any news in that department which could have damaged Biden more than he did himself. In any case his candidacy would appear to anyone not born last night to be remote at best.
So Adam Schiff comes to the Committee to Get Trump and offers second-hand “whistle-blower” evidence from another mysterious unnamed person. Of course his whistle blowing didn’t count because it was hearsay. So then the rules were re-written ex-post-facto in order to make his “testimony” of second-hand information “legitimate’. Meanwhile the mystery man (let’s call him “Clark Kent” - no one knew about his real identity, did they?) is shielded from one and all. He can’t be subpoenaed in the highest-level proceeding to attempt to undo the election of 2016. Thanks to a report by Molly Hemmingway, however, we ALL know his name: Eric Camarillo.
This makes a problem for the House Democrats because they don’t WANT to call Camarillo as a witness. So they are trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube, the genie back in the bottle. We are not allowed to know what we know. Everyone who posts his name has been deleted. He is the greatest not-kept secret in American history. We are being gas-lighted. We are supposed to pretend not to know. This Soviet kind of psychological warfare is almost ridiculous, like the transparent plot of some Viennese operetta only without the charm of the music. We are expected to sit by while a farce of this quality is foisted upon us.
Is this some kind of weird karmic backlash? After all, back in the day Trump tried to insinuate that there was some connection between Ted Cruz and the assassination of John Kennedy. But after all, when are we going to stop this? When are we all going to call our Congressmen and tell them to get real, get back to work on something that is not completely absurd. Right now we are expected to un-know what we already know for the sake of railroading Trump. It’s like we didn’t know who wrote Primary Colors, then we did, and now we are not supposed to. How dumb is this? Is there any limit to the contempt in which Congress holds us?
Either call Eric Camarillo and Joe and Hunter Biden to testify before Congress and get it over with or call a halt to this episode of “Get Trump”. Enough is more than enough. If the key witnesses who could provide exculpatory evidence are no more than a “distraction” then this is not a hearing, it is a Kabuki theater p performance. After all, no one, not Perry Mason, not Cousin Vinny, could possibly get their client exonerated without being able to call witnesses who can provide this kind of evidence. The whole thing a sham.
