SALLY MORRIS: THE SOVIET DOES NOT APPROVE!
One of my favorite movies is a Russian-French production called “The Concert”. It basically illustrates the hell that communism creates for any artist. Today I watched a short video by David Knight. He often has worthwhile topics and treats them with the serious consideration they deserve. This one referred to the great Russian composer, Dmitri Shostakovich and his struggle with being “cancelled” by the Stalinist government of the Soviet Union. A creative genius, his gifts were strangled by the “system” which disapproved of his music - it did not convey the “message” desired by the political authorities. Many years ago the same theme was explored in "White Nights", starring Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines - another great movie exposing a profound truth. His story is hauntingly similar to artists in 21st Century America who dare to disagree - with BLM, with the Transgender movement, with the 2020 election, with the handling of Covid or the narrative surrounding Covid. Most artists in the West are clambering onto the bandwagon being driven, post-haste, by these groups of insiders. Knight focuses on one composer in particular in his presentation, Daniel Elder, but it applies to them all. James Woods is another well-known example, a consummate actor, virtually shut out of his craft. The story briefly recounted by Knight here, applies ominously to Americans who dare to differ, whether writers - even phenomenally successful ones like J.K. Rowling, who took exception to the idea that trans males should be allowed to compete in girls’ sports events - or musicians, actors. In fact, it extends to people who work in health care and business and just about any sector in American life today. This is something antipathetic to everything we have ever called “American”. We need to call a halt to this. We need to learn once more to tolerate differing opinions - from our own as well as from those of the “authorities”. We all learned that Joseph Stalin was a bully, a dangerous one - a person capable of genocide, of persecution, someone apparently incapable of putting any value on human life or accomplishment beyond its usefulness to him personally. We see the rise of such people in America today and they must be stopped in their tracks. We need to teach our children better. Right now they are learning all the wrong things. This is our fault - we need to take control back from the authorities. We ARE the “authorities” in America. Please watch this. Then please share it. This is not a political matter - it is beyond politics. It crosses party lines. This is for everyone who cares about living in freedom.
