SALLY MORRIS: USING ANOTHER KID AS A POLITICAL TOOL
Using children to promote pet causes of the left is nothing new. We’ve seen an overload of David Hogg, for example, trying to grab our guns and delete our Bill of Rights. But there is no end in sight.
Now we have “Greta”. Greta Thunberg, a teenage Swedish kid has become this week’s celebrity thanks to her stunt: sailing by $4 million yacht to promote “environmentalism”. It’s a transparent gimmick by globalist elites to attempt to shame normal people for making their world more livable. We ought to be ashamed. When it’s cold we heat our homes, when it’s in the 90 -100 degree range we cool them. We run motorized lawnmowers. We drive cars to work, we turn on electric lights. We make things, we buy things. We don’t live in caves like our prehistoric ancestors or the chimpanzees in the jungles. We use computers. We fly in airplanes, we watch TV. If we weren’t watching TV or looking at the internet, after all, Greta’s showboating would have no audience. Hmmmm.
Anyway, I’m not alone in being irritated by this kid. Paul Joseph Watson has made a video with his take on it. Warning: there is a bit of, shall we say, “salty”, language here, so the faint of heart might just take my word for it.
Perhaps Watson is a little hard on the girl - after all, really all she is is a pawn and we should probably feel sorry for her. And I must say, she speaks English beautifully. But, all that said, this is a bit hard to take.
Greta is sailing in a ship which undoubtedly used a lot of fossil fuel to construct. Her crew will be flying - by airplane - back to Europe after her grand entrance in New York or wherever she puts into port. She is filming the whole thing. I doubt she is wearing homespun togs or homemade shoes. She will want millions to have their eyes on her as she sends us her virtue signal and that will mean a lot of television viewers using electricity. In short, this is a typical bit of nonsense just as empty and disingenuous as Leonardo DiCaprio’s or Al Gore’s stunts. Environmentalism for the “masses. . . but not for me”.
