There will always be a Far Right.  All of the Left needs there to be one, hence there is one somewhere out there.  We’ve all heard of them - the White Supremacists, Q-Anon. 

I am, as you might have guessed, not on the Left.  I suspect word has gotten around about that.  

You’d think someone on the Alt Right would have invited me to one of their gatherings.  Presumably they do gather somewhere.  Perhaps I’m too slow to pick up on the code language and dog whistles with which they allude to whatever it is they’re getting at.  

The Left’s ideal Right-winger sits around listening to Alex Jones and blindly following Donald Trump.  Obviously those not on the Left have an abundance of idiots,  and I won’t contend that I’m not one of them.  

There were patriotic Germans prior to the rise of Hitler.  In retrospect they ought to have done something more than just retire to the sidelines.  

This isn’t to say there isn’t an equivalence.  We’d all obviously back Trump were the alternative Hitler.  The problem would be that we’d still get Hitler following the bungling we’d be sure to get from Trump.  

This isn’t a prediction, it’s a rough summary of what’s already happened.  Trump couldn’t have been booted out of office without the connivance of his Attorney General colluding with Trump’s FBI chief and Trump’s Vice President.  

Shouldn’t we be wondering why Trump’s FBI persisted in insisting the Hunter Biden laptop was an elaborate Russian hoax?  

Was it that they’d had too up close a view of the obnoxious ignoramus?  Perhaps had we been in Iago’s shoes we’d have planted the incriminating handkerchief that got Desdemona strangled. And to top it off we’d have sigged the agent provocateurs on the gullible dupes of January 6.  

Alas, the MAGA loyalists, languishing like Edmund Dantes in the Chateau d’If, awaiting whatever charges Merrick Garland might eventually get around to meting out, they may well constitute only the tip of the iceberg.   Always it would appear there’s another crowd out there for our most stable genius.  

As for the rest of us, here we sit, watching Trump herd another batch of lemmings toward the cliff as the humorless DeSantis plays Catcher in the Rye.
