DENNIS PATRICK: HURRICANES AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Hurricane Florence, or any hurricane for that matter, is nothing to trifle with. Only a person in isolation for the past week would be unaware of the hurricane hitting North and South Carolina. Even now record rainfall and ocean storm surge is being recorded.

Nevertheless, the major media outlets build on the story as an entertainment piece at the expense of the unfortunate. CNN shows Anderson Cooper standing in a ditch of water for effect as his cameraman films the affair. The Weather Channel shows a reporter playacting leaning markedly into the wind while a couple of casual teens stroll effortlessly behind him. All for the entertainment value.

Much of this silliness is on display as a blame game based on the poorly informed, the hopelessly sentimental, or the ideologically hard core. At the far left environmental wackos capitalize on the weather to fabricate the climate change myth.

Try this. On 09/11/2018 The Washington Post carried this story, “Yes, you can blame President Trump for Hurricane Florence.” The story goes on to tick off some truly foolish reasons to justify their assertion. After all, didn’t Trump pull the US out of the Paris climate accords? Leftists are committed to removing a duly elected President. Climate change scam artists and elitists at the Washington Post treat the general public as dumber than a box of rocks.

Here is the assertion. Global warming (climate change) is mostly manmade brought about by CO2 emissions. The projection is disaster if we do not change our way of living. Climate change is particularly useful to leftist power brokers when politicized.

As far as climate change “deniers” are concerned, they are often accused of working against “settled science.” Excuse me. The only thing that is settled is the scientific method which is easily ignored when inconvenient. There is no such thing as “settled science.” It is a dynamic methodology. If there was “settled science,” then the laws of Newtonian physics could never have been superseded, in part, by Einstein’s theory of relativity. Ho-hum.

Here is a recitation of just a few examples. The Alaskan Straights Times headline on 12/19/2017 stated “Alaskan Snow More Than Doubles Due to Global Warming: Study.” Two ice cores were drilled into Mount Hunter in Denali National Park. Continuing, “It is now glaringly clear from our ice core record that modern snowfall rates in Alaska are much higher than natural rates before the Industrial Revolution,” says researcher Winski. During the Industrial Revolution (1840s) is “when humankind started pumping planet-warming greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.” And there it is: warm air holds more moisture, more moisture means more snow because the air is warmer. Brilliant! Other studies bear out just the reverse for Hawaii. The increase in greenhouse gases over the century has meant a decrease in precipitation for Hawaii. Confused? Of course. Conclusion: “Scientists keep discovering that on a regional basis, climate change is full of surprises.” It is if you are tailoring the facts to fit the conclusion.

A few years ago, Climategate erupted at the Climate Research Unit (CRU), University of East Anglia, Norwich, England. To their considerable disgrace, the group was caught fudging temperature data to justify assertions of manmade climate change.

Enter Tidalgate in which dishonest scientists were caught tampering with raw data to create the illusion that sea levels were rising in an attempt to prove global warming. Two Australian scientists exposed the scam and those responsible for falsifying records at the global databank Permanent Service for Mean Sea Level (PSMSL) at the National Oceanography Centre in Liverpool, England. The perpetrators had “adjusted” the sea level records from three gauges in the Indian Ocean to create fake data indicating a “sharp and dramatic” rise in sea levels. In other words, there is no rise in ocean levels due to global warming unless you fake the data.

Here is another bit of elastic rationale. Climate alarmists still maintain that icecaps and glaciers really are melting and that all the extra water really does exist. It’s just hiding. A paper published by a Dutch scientist from the Delft University of Technology titled “Ocean Bottom Deformation Due to Present-Day Mass Redistribution and Its Impact on Sea Level Observations” appeared in Geophysical Research Letters. The paper maintains that “the earth itself is not a rigid sphere, it’s a deforming ball.” As such, “the seas are expanding much faster than is shown either by satellite altimetry or tide gauges.” So, where is all the extra water? It is not visible because it is causing the ocean floor to sink! We just don’t know where.

In truth, the US Energy Information Administration’s latest energy report states that from 2005 through 2017 US energy related CO2 emissions plunged by 14%. In the same period the rest of the world’s output rose by 21%. The US will neither choke, bake, nor flood the planet. Not only is the US the only major country cutting CO2 emissions, it is providing leadership showing others how to do it.
