DENNIS PATRICK: THOUGHTS ON THE PASSING SCENE

Shard. A piece of ceramic, metal, glass or rock typically having sharp edges. Often enough The Passing Scene is just that -- a shard. The objective is to nick the intellectual bombast surrounding us in order to deflate the pompous superficiality of the contemporary pop-culture. Here are a few shards.

How does Trump fix his administration’s internal intelligence leaks? His friends, Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu, England’s Teresa May and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani could offer some great insights on identifying and prosecuting persons perpetrating security leaks.

What was the real impact of the Russian government on the United States 2016 presidential elections? How did that work from beginning to end? Major news sources have yet to explain or make sense of exactly how the Russians catapulted Trump into office. Where is the substance? Or, is the Russian interference story all fake news? Wasn’t Hillary to be coroneted? As President Trump would say, “All talk; no action.”

Meanwhile, major media outlets will not touch the story about the three Muslim brothers, all of them information technology professionals, working with the computer networks in the US House of Representatives. Abid, Imran and Jamal Awan were fired on February 9 for hacking House networks. One brother had a prior criminal record. They hacked House Intelligence, Foreign Intelligence and Foreign Affairs committees.

Many people these days are branded as racists. The term “racist” is used so casually and is so overworked that it has become almost meaningless. This said, ask the question, “Of what was the racist perpetrator guilty?” For most people the crime is as simple as having been born Caucasian. Nothing more.

What is the difference between a legal and an Illegal immigrant? Any fool can answer that – until the media conflates and confuses the issue.

The Democrat Party has magically disintegrated. The shell of the Party is led by obstructionist septuagenarian Senators and Congressmen with nothing new in their playbook. They have attempted to replenish their ranks with the propagandized spawn of the education establishment together with rioters-for-hire. The Democrat National Committee will attempt to elect a Chairman on the weekend of February 23-26. That should be fun to watch – if the convention is open to the sycophant press. Candidates are mostly from the extreme left which is where the Party has drifted. Once the chairman is in place, it remains to be seen if many centrist newcomers will join the Party.

President Trump’s immigration executive orders are allegedly tearing families apart. So say the major news outlets on behalf of immigration do-gooder activists. In reality, the so-called “raids” recently conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were planned long ago under the Obama administration for execution now. The only families being torn apart are crime families, gangs and cartels. Any other effects of the ICE raids were designed as landmines left to disrupt and delay the new administration whether it was Trump’s or Clinton’s.

Then there is Hollywood. Once upon a time Hollywood provided entertainment. Now Hollywood offers a never-ending stream of leftist political commentary. The White House, on the other hand, always the center of the political universe, now offers entertainment especially at Presidential press conferences. Who knew?

As it applies to the mainstream media, speculation about the activities of President Trump’s administration may just as well be defined as news. The media still has not figured out Trump, his methodology or his cabinet. There is no known template into which Trump fits. The media did not make him and the media cannot break him. In addition, they still do not understand the swelling numbers of voters who put him in office or why. Without speculation, the cable news channels, radio outlets and print journalism would struggle to fill a daily news cycle.

A tip of the hat to the “loyal” opposition and word of encouragement to my flaming liberal friends and relatives: Stay lit. Don’t let the fire go out.
