DUSTIN GAWRLOW: THE 2010 ELECTION TSUNAMI & WHAT IT MEANS

The 2010 Election Tsunami

Although many national races remain too close to call, one thing is clear - voters reject the liberal big government policies of President Obama and Democrats.

However, Republicans would be foolhardy to believe this election unconditionally endorses them, it doesn't.  This was vote to stop America from going down the liberal road.

Just like Republicans should not be overconfident in the win, Democrats who care about their legacy must realize that a "lame duck" session of Congress would completely counter the will of the people.

For months, we have warned you about this danger the lame duck session poses.  Because the new Congress does not officially convene until January 3rd, the current Congress has roughly six weeks to shove though their liberal agenda.

Until the new Congress takes office, we will continue updating you about the shenanigans happening in Washington D.C.   We ask you to join this effort and donate now by clicking here.

Here in North Dakota...

Democrats were crushed at the state level - losing 9 seats in the Senate and at least 13 in the House.

This gives Republicans a very lopsided 69 to 25 majority over Democrats in the House and an astounding 35 to 12 majority in the Senate.  Democrats in the North Dakota Legislature are now a marginalized minority.

What it all means...

Parallel to the national situation, North Dakota conservatives should not believe these figures will make the 2011 session a cakewalk.

Republicans have controlled both chambers for several consecutive sessions and we have seen general fund spending increase 60% over the past 4 years alone.  The Legislative Council also recently reported to legislators that total state and local tax burdens have also mounted.

(The graphic to the right is courtesey of the North Dakota Legislative Council - click here to see the report they are handing to legislators this year.)

This Republican landslide ELIMINATES any grounds to blame Democrats for what happens in the legislature.  If any North Dakota Republican legislator or elected official claims that Democrats are a driving force behind any legislation, that Republican is trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

Taking control of spending requires North Dakota Republicans to change how they spend.  Your support will help pull Republican legislators into the right lane and get over the notion that having a surplus justifies spending more.

Stay tuned and stay active.  Tuesday was only the beginning.

Good stuff Dustin,

Libs were lamenting the reduction in the number of women in the legislature… I’ll take a single conservative woman in office over multiple liberal women any day.

Do more women need to get involved in politics…absolutely!

But only if they pay their dues with activism and full knowledge of the issues as is expemplified by so many excellent conservative women “winners” of late!
