DUSTIN GAWRYLOW: SENATOR CONRAD’S PLAN TO INCREASE TAXES
It's not often that a politician comes up and says point-blank that they want to raise taxes. But North Dakota's Senator Conrad has done just that.
According to the Associated Press, Senator Conrad's plan "promises to cut the deficit by almost two-thirds over the next five years, but the budget plan could threaten about 30 million people with tax increases averaging $3,700 in 2012 and after because of the alternative minimum tax."
"The Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, says that 33 million taxpayers would face the AMT in 2012, adding $3,700 on average to their tax liabilities," the AP article also stated.
This news comes the same day as a report by the Congressional Budget Office saying 4 million people will end up paying at least $1,000 per year as penalty for not carrying the appropriate health insurance as prescribed the government-run healthcare plan just passed by Congress.
And speaking of government-run healthcare, according to The Hill:
"Federal Election Commission (FEC) reports show the crucial yes votes cashed in between March 21 and the end of the first quarter on March 31. They received big money from Democratic-leaning political action committees (PACs) and fellow Democratic members of Congress...Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-N.D.) raised more than $140,000 from PACs and fellow members in the final 10 days of the quarter - which was more than one-third of the $400,000 total he raised for the entire quarter."
Maybe it is just a coincidence that after voting "Yes" the $140,000 just showed up, all by itself.
