HAL NEFF: LLOYD OMDAHL’S CIVILITY

This is in response to Mr Lloyd Omdahl’s column in the Tribune of Sunday Sep’t 20 “Civility is leaving the public square”.  Is Mr Omdahl’s memory failing? Or is there a dual set of behaviors; one for his political pals and another for the despised opposition—those who deserve no civility and respect; hence, they are not considered in his review of public decorum.

I will remind Mr Omdahl of the recent incident that got very little attention from him and seemed to get a “pass” from the press that seemed to be looking another direction at the time it happened.  Our North Dakota representative Earl Pomeroy, in a question and answer session with the press, Pomeroy called the President of the United States a “clown”.  That brought no calls for apologies and censure from the Democrats—apparently this was not a breach of civility because the prevailing thought among the press and media was that Pomeroy was correct in his outburst.

So, was Congressman Joe Wilson of SC correct in his charge that Pres. Obama was lying when he, Obama, said that illegals were not covered under the proposed healthcare plan? It was shown that Joe was correct.  The Whitehouse and Democrat Senate made a hasty correction the very next morning to “fix” the oversight.

Mr Omdahl conveniently forgets the dozens of shout-downs at college campuses as Republican and Conservative speakers were invited guests to speak to students over the past years. The Democrat Party makes good use of their Left-wing radical activists to make sure opposing views are kept from the impressionable college students.

So Mr Omdahl sees a disturbing lack of civility when people go to Town Hall meetings and have the temerity to talk back to their elected representatives.

Well, he is not alone in this sad situation; our great leader and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi came close to tears as she talked about incivility that she remembers in San Francisco in the—-get this—-the 1970’s.  SF, the scene of some of nation’s worst demonstrations of morality and civility seem to have eluded Nancy’s memory.

Thanks Mr Omdahl, for your writings—I feel better now!
