My wife and I just celebrated our wedding anniversary. I won’t tell you which one, but suffice it to say that we have now been married twice as long as we were single. Unbelievable!

And it is almost as hard for us to believe that all five of our children are now married; traditional marriages…you know…ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN!

While there continues to be much disagreement among the “experts” as to exactly when the “institution of marriage” actually began;  unfortunately, there is no disagreement that that precious institution is in serious trouble today.

Not only does one out of every two marriages result in divorce; many of those marriages survive only a few months.  In Hollywood, and much of California, marriage is considered unnecessary and little more than a joke. But of course, those people are all so much smarter than you and I.

Columnist Cal Thomas writes that all this is simply systematic of “an unraveling of all we once considered normal. Anyone who now appeals to virtue, values, ethics, or religious faith” Thomas adds, “is labeled an enemy of progress, an intolerant bigot, a homophobe, a Neanderthal.”

We must remember, Thomas says, that marriage was established “by God as the best arrangement for fallen humanity to organize and protect itself and to create and rear children.”

Marriage, according to my dictionary, is “the mutual relationship of husband and wife, the institution whereby men and women are joined in a special kind of social and legal dependence for the purpose of founding and maintaining a family; a legally accepted relationship between one man and one woman, in which they live together as husband and wife.”

The key word in any marriage is “commitment”. Marriage demands that a man and a woman make an exclusive commitment to each other that in effect takes two separate and discreet individuals, one male and one female, and makes them one.

Recent legislation and court decisions in a handful of states across our country are now allowing the “marriage” of same sex couples that is simply an abomination and an affront to the common sense of tradition and the beauty of biblical wisdom; and is just another example of a society that has abandoned any and all authority other than itself. Once again, mere man trying to play God.

G.K. Chesterton probably said it best; “The danger when men stop believing in God,” he wrote, “is not that they will believe in nothing, but rather that they will believe in anything.”

God Bless you my friends and God Bless the Unites States of America.
