Well, the Obama Administration “acted stupidly” again last week. On direct orders from the President, a team of Justice Department lawyers flew to Phoenix and filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Arizona’s new immigration law.  The lawsuit contends that the Arizona law violates the supremacy clause of the United States Constitution, and in effect, usurps federal authority. There is a lot more to it than that of course. Can you say POLITICS?  You see, it is already illegal under federal law to be in the United States illegally; as in “what part of ILLEGAL don’t you understand?” But Arizona is the first state to make it a state crime and add its own punishment and enforcement tactics.

Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce, the principal sponsor of the bill, denounced the lawsuit as an “absolute insult to the rule of law” as well as to the state of Arizona and its residents. “It’s outrageous,” Pearce said, “and its clear they don’t want immigration laws enforced. They prefer to ignore the damage to America, the cost to our citizens, the deaths tied to the violence along our border.”

The state of Arizona, led by Governor Jan Brewer, felt they had absolutely no alternative but to take matters into their own hands, because the Obama Administration was, almost glibly, shirking the Federal government’s duty to protect the legal residents of the state.

In fact, Arizona passed the law after years of frustration over problems associated with illegal immigration, including drug trafficking and violent kidnappings. The state is the biggest “gateway” into the United States for illegal immigrants, and an estimated 460,000 illegals currently call Arizona home.

Governor Brewer and the Arizona Legislature didn’t just throw the bill together. It was very carefully thought out and even more carefully written. Kris Kobach, a law professor at the University of Missouri, helped write the bill. He says he is not surprised by Obama’s action, but calls it “unprecedented and unnecessary”.

The law itself is pretty simple, straight forward, and very constitutional. It steps on nobody’s rights; and, if allowed to stand, will go a long ways towards protecting the lives and property of American citizens and LEGAL immigrants.  The safety of our citizens apparently doesn’t concern the Obama Administration. Both the President and Attorney General Erick Holder sharply criticized the new law, while admitting that they had not even read it! Can you say POLITICS?

The new law simply requires law enforcement officers, WHILE ENFORCING OTHER LAWS, to question a person’s immigration status IF there’s a reasonable suspicion that they are in the country illegally. The law makes it a state crime for legal immigrants to not carry their immigration documents, prohibits government agencies from having policies that restrict the enforcement of federal immigration laws and allows Arizonians to file lawsuits against agencies that hinder immigration law enforcement.

The loud and vocal consensus of the left-wing main street media is “three cheers for Obama” for sticking up for those illegals, after all, that is a lot of democratic votes come November. But, the country’s best legal minds, those who really count, think Obama and Holder bit off more than they can chew; that the new law that goes into effect at the end of the month will be ruled constitutional, and that Governor Brewer and the soon to be safer residents of Arizona, will indeed have the last laugh.

May God bless you my friends and my God bless the United States of America. I’m Joel Swanson and that is my comment for today.
