LYNN BERGMAN: THE DEBT LIMIT - ADDICTION REQUIRES INTERVENTION

Addiction is an age-old problem. Addicts are incapable of looking into the future, seeking only today’s “fix”. Addicts could not continue in such a mode without the assistance of one or more enablers.

The solution to addiction is “loving intervention”. Translation: interveners mustwork tirelessly and courageously to stop the harmful activity of the addict. Remember the equation, Love = Work + Courage.

The addict uses every trick in the book to appeal to the emotions of the intervener, from crying and threats to other manipulation and trickery. Innocent third parties are often victimized by both the addict and the enablers.

Professionals in the field of addiction are often helpful as catalysts to the work and courage necessary for interveners to be successful.

But how does all this talk about “addiction” relate to the United States Congress and its August 2nd debt increase deadline?

Identification of the Parties

The addiction is federal government spending on special interests in return for campaign kickbacks.

The addicts are the incumbent members of the U.S. House and Senate that have been in office and addicted to spending for decades.

The enablers are the special interest sources of campaign finances, including business, labor, and so-called “professionals”, including the legal, education, medical, insurance, and other elements of the “takings” coalition.

The interveners are the Tea Party, a loose federation of conservatives wishing to return to constitutional limited government.

The innocent third parties are the “Leave Us Alone” coalition, those hard working and courageous taxpaying citizens that are increasingly called upon to contribute to the “takings” coalition, where laziness and fear are the watch words of life.

The professionals are those that honor their oath of office by adhering to our constitution, the words and ideals of the founders of America. People like Michelle Bachmann, Marco Rubio, and Paul Ryan.

How Must The Congress Proceed?

Members of the U.S. House and Senate must see through the cloud of misinformation and manipulation of the spending addicts and their enablers.

The professionals must speak out forcefully to clarify that the real problem is the addiction, not the distress of the addict or the addict’s enablers. The professionals must hold out against all odds to stop the spending, at all costs.

What Can Americans Do To Help?

The temporary cost of refusal to increase the debt limit will expose the falsehoods of the addict and the addict’s enablers. It will give the American people a small taste of what is to come of our nation if federal spending is allowed to accelerate as it has in the last two years. And voters may then continue to remove all long term incumbents at the ballot box in order to restore free market America.
