SALLY MORRIS: THE REAL STORY OF THE YEAR - 2020
In an extraordinary election year, which encompassed a worldwide pandemic and worldwide economic crashes, various sideshows of rival “experts” doling out advice to anxious, frightened people while flying blind, the evil machinations of an enemy nation deliberately allowing the disease to spread worldwide, a Supreme Court Justice died and a candidate was nominated to fill the post; if she is confirmed Democrats threaten to pack the court - a tactic even FDR couldn’t get away with, a faked "suicide" of accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein in his jail cell, the organized violence of professional rent-a-mobs directed by Antifa and Black Lives Matter, together with revelations from the horse’s mouth that the leaders of these organizations are openly and proudly “Marxist”, punctuated amid this pandemonium by the nomination of a doddering career politician whose defining characteristics are a life-long nastiness in the U.S. Senate, questionable lobbying connections with his family, recidivist plagiarism and now dementia, with the certainty - for the first time in our history - that the nominated candidate will not serve out his term but defer to a much disliked Vice President should he be elected, massive mail-in election fraud exposed - and now a late chapter revealing the crooked selling of influence and American foreign policy using tax payers’ hard-earned money, the over-riding story of 2020 is none of the above but rather the exposure of the American press for what it is: Democrat shills and nothing more.
If anyone had doubts about this, they should have been dispelled this week in the wake of the bombshell of the Hunter Biden emails and attendant folly. What we know so far: Hunter Biden, the talentless, philandering and drug-addicted, wastrel son of Democrat [temporary] presidential candidate Joe Biden, has been acting all along as a highly paid bagman for his family’s criminal enterprises. Biden’s apologists have been trying frantically to kick the dirt over this sewage, trying the old “it hasn’t been verified” tack - rich, considering how importantit was to verify sources of baseless information being used against Trump and his various appointees, including conspicuously, Supreme Court Justice Brent Kavanaugh. An entire impeachment was conducted on the strength of utter nonsense and phony FISA warrants, although by now it seems a couple of lifetimes ago. Was it only last February that the Senate acquitted Trump? (You know, they continue to use this phony, disproven information as campaign material, which should alert us to the paucity of useful ammunition they can find.) But, sadly for Biden, it has all been verified - by the FBI (late though they came to the party), the NIS, the United States Senate, Rudi Giuliani and his attorney, who received it, the computer repairman and his own records and the testimony of two different individuals involved in the emails, Bevan Cooney (now under special surveillance due to threats to safety) and Tony Bobulinski, two business associates.
So, while the Democrat campaign - such as it is, with Biden “calling a lid” at about 9:30 every morning unless he happens to go out and field questions about an ice cream cone, the disproven stuff keeps on coming. While Biden cowers, quivering under his bed in the basement and arrogantly dismissing any questions about his bagman son, or abusing and cursing those who dare to ask, Trump has been sick with COVID, in the hospital, out again and on the campaign trail, holding high-energy rallies from coast to coast - in Arizona one day and North Carolina the next. Along the way he has done things that have confounded his supporters - such as granting long interviews to hatchet man Bob Woodward, whose only stock-in-trade is taking down presidents. He further compounded his recklessness this week by granting CBS’s 60 MInutes an interview with Leslie Stahl. Good God. Of course that didn’t go all that well. Stahl saw it as his would-be tormenter Savannah Guthrie did, who “hosted” his recent “town hall”, as her job to try to bait him and if that failed, to just keep clubbing him over the head with whatever came to hand, usually “masks”. He simply aborted the interview and walked off the set when he’d had enough nonsense. To that point, some 40 minutes in, no serious questions had even been asked, Stahl preferring to dwell on the same word, repeated over and over, like a kid at his mother’s elbow - “Can I have a nickel - Can I have a nickel - Can I have a nickel - Can I have a nickel - Can I have a nickel” and simply not listening to answers or moving on. Frankly, he should have taken control the same way of the town hall with Guthrie. He should have faced the audience and then just asked for questions from them and interacted with them, leaving Guthrie shrill as ever, harping in the background and talking over them. He should have taken it away from her.
Well, you might say, that has not been aired yet. Aren’t you making some elaborate predictions? No. Because in a move only Trump would make, he chose to tape the interview himself. And he really upset 60 MInutes. He simply released the entire, unedited interview himself, four days ahead of CBS’s scheduled air time. Whatever inspired this, it was an act of genius. I have often criticized Trump’s style as well as some of his earlier positions on issues I felt very strongly about. But this was great theater. And a public service to boot. In one decisive moment, Trump hit “send” and changed the way we view the media. We don’t know the end of the story yet. CBS has not said what it will do, but they are fuming that he “violated the agreement, blah, blah, blah” and they probably are so out of touch that they think we should be angry with Trump about it. Hah! I doubt that.
While the Huntergate scandal is boiling over on the front burner, and the Big Man, Joe, is treated to ice cream cones and ice cream questions, we’re getting a harangue on rally crowds not masking up. NPR issued a statement on it - no, don’t get excited, they weren’t going to talk about IT, they were just going to tell us why they were not going to cover IT. Turns out, NPR decided it would be a “waste of our time” to hear anything about this - an earth-shaking international scandal involving the Democrat [temporary] presidential candidate less than two weeks before the election. I guess they think we would be far more into the chocolate vs. vanilla debate. It tells us something about not only NPR but their listeners as well.
In any case, there will be a final debate tonight and, as we could well expect, the mics will be muted any time Biden lies to our faces, so Trump won’t cut him off (just as well, we need to hear the codger shamble on without interruption - although the moderator, who is in the bag for him might try to assist him even there) and there will be no discussion of foreign policy. Well, why should there be? Who cares about Chinese and Ukranian corruption or about Trump’s successful brokering of peace long given up on in the Middle East, his controversial and strong position on China and the forging of an alliance to deter aggression in the Far East? We are all more interested in “masks”, right? And the Green New Deal. Which we really need like a hole in the head.
Without further ado, then, here is Trump’s uncut and unedited version of the 60 MInutes interview. Watch it first and then if you really want to see what CBS was up to, you might tune in on Sunday just to find out. I don’t have any idea what they will do with it. Maybe they will spend the hour spinning. Corruption of the press is the real story of 2020. Truth will out.
