Carbon permits are valuable, yet the House says only 28% of the allowances would be auctioned off; the rest would be given away. In March, White House budget director Peter Orszag told Congress that “If you didn’t auction the permit, it would represent the largest corporate welfare program that has ever been enacted in the history of the United States.”

The revisions were demanded by coal-dependent Rust Belt Democrats to require tariffs on goods from countries that don’t also reduce their emissions. Democrats were thus admitting that the critics are right that this new energy tax would send U.S. jobs overseas. But instead of voting no, their price for voting yes is to impose another tax on imports from China and India, among others. So a Smoot-Hawley green tariff is now official Democratic policy.

2. The sale of carbon permits will enrich the Wall Street investment bankers whose money put Obama in the White House. Top of the list: Goldman Sachs, which is invested in carbon-offset development and carbon permissions. CNN reports:
Less than two weeks after the investment bank announced it would be laying off 10 percent of its staff, ***Goldman Sachs confirmed that it has taken a minority stake in Utah-based carbon offset project developer Blue Source LLC. . . . “Interest in the pre-compliance carbon market in the U.S. is growing rapidly,” said Leslie Biddle, Head of Commodity Sales at Goldman, “and we are excited to be able to offer our clients immediate access to a diverse selection of emission reductions to manage their carbon risk.”
3. With its rich menu of corporate subsidies and special set-asides for politically connected industries, Waxman-Markey has inspired a new corporate interest group, USCAP, the United States Climate Action Partnership — the group largely responsible for the fact that carbon permits are being given away like candy at Christmas rather than auctioned. And who is lined up to receive a piece of the massive wealth transfer that Waxman-Markey will mandate? Canada Free Press lists:
Alcoa, American International Group (AIG) which withdrew after accepting government bailout money, Boston Scientific Corporation, BP America Inc., Caterpillar Inc., Chrysler LLC (which continues to lobby with taxpayer dollars), ConocoPhillips, Deere & Company, The Dow Chemical Company, Duke Energy, DuPont, Environmental Defense, Exelon Corporation, Ford Motor Company, FPL Group, Inc., General Electric, General Motors Corp. (now owned by the Obama administration), Johnson & Johnson, Marsh, Inc., National Wildlife Federation, Natural Resources Defense Council, The Nature Conservancy, NRG Energy, Inc., Pepsico, Pew Center on Global Climate Change, PG&E Corporation, PNM Resources, Rio Tinto, Shell, Siemens Corporation, World Resources Institute, Xerox Corporation.
One major group of recipients of the free money being given to industry in the form of carbon permits are the electric utilities, represented in Washington by the Edison Electric Institute. Along with the coal and steel businesses, the utilities are positioned to receive a huge portion of the carbon permits — some of which will be disguised as measures for consumers — and have become one of the nation’s highest-spending lobbies, working to ensure that their interests are served by cap-and-trade.
Is this whole scam a rape of the taxpayers to payoff the politically connected? Will Senators Dorgan and Conrad “FIGHT”?
I guess, based on past evidence no. But when the election comes around fight will be every third or forth word in Senator Dorgan’s adds. Kind of weird, that.

WHO AM I?
I was born in one country, raised in another. My father was born in another country. I was not his only child. He fathered several children with numerous women. I became very close to my mother, as my father showed no interest in me. My mother died at an early age from cancer.
Later in life, questions arose over my real name. My birth records were sketchy and no one was able to produce a legitimate, reliable birth certificate.
I grew up practicing one faith but converted to Christianity, as it was widely accepted in my country, but I practiced non-traditional beliefs & didn’t follow Christianity, except in the public eye under scrutiny.
I worked and lived among lower-class people as a young adult, disguising myself as someone who really cared about them. That was before I decided it was time to get serious about my life and I embarked on a new career.
I wrote a book about my struggles growing up. It was clear to those who read my memoirs that I had difficulties accepting that my father abandoned me as a child.
I became active in local politics in my 30’s then with help behind the scenes, I literally burst onto the scene as a candidate for national office in my 40s. They said I had a golden tongue and could talk anyone into anything. That reinforced my conceit.
I had a virtually non-existent resume, little work history, and no experience in leading a single organization. Yet I was a powerful speaker and citizens were drawn to me as though I were a magnet and they were small roofing tacks. I drew incredibly large crowds during my public appearances. This bolstered my ego.
At first, my political campaign focused on my country’s foreign policy. I was very critical of my country in the last war and seized every opportunity to bash my country.. But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on the country’s economy. I pretended to have a really good plan on how we could do better and every poor person would be fed & housed for free. I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess. It was the free market, banks & corporations. I decided to start making citizens hate them and if they were envious of others who did well, the plan was clinched tight.
I called mine “A People’s Campaign” and that sounded good to all people. I was the surprise candidate because I emerged from outside the traditional path of politics & was able to gain widespread popular support. I knew that, if I merely offered the people ‘hope’ , together we could change our country and the world. So, I started to make my speeches sound like they were on behalf of the downtrodden, poor, ignorant to include “persecuted minorities” like the Jews. My true views were not widely known & I needed to keep them unknown, until after I became my nation’s leader. I had to carefully guard reality, as anybody could have easily found out what I really believed, if they had simply read my writings and examined those people I associated with.
I’m glad they didn’t. Then I became the most powerful man in the world. And the world learned the truth.

Peter Ferrara absolutely nails the abomination that is the Waxman/Markey “Cap and Trade” bill in his American Spectator article today. Thankfully Representative Earl Pomeroy had the good sense to vote against this monstrosity in the U.S. House. Now we will find out if Senators Dorgan and Conrad will actually fight the legislation that if enacted would prove hugely damaging to North Dakota’s economy. Will they truly fight this? Or will they just vote “NO” and claim to be fighting, fighting, fighting for North Dakota? Ferrara explains that:
The bill is designed to raise the price of energy in the U.S. so much that it will reduce the use of fossil fuels by 17% by 2020 and by 83% by 2050. Sentencing the U.S. economy to high cost energy is not a particularly good strategy for creating jobs. The Charles River Associates, a Harvard based economics consulting firm, estimates a net loss of jobs from the bill of about 2.5 million each year.
Yet, all you hear in North Dakota media (paid advertising by out-of-state advocacy groups) is that somehow this is a “green” jobs bill! That is a HOAX. It is also a hoax stacked upon a lie because:
During the campaign, Obama also pledged that he would never raise taxes in any form on Americans making less than $250,000 per year. But his cap and trade tax is estimated to cost American families almost $2,000 a year when it becomes effective, growing to almost $7,000 a year for a family of four by 2035. That will be paid through higher prices for electricity, oil, gasoline, natural gas, home heating oil, coal, food, and every product that is produced or transported using energy.
This bill is a HOAX because it will have negligible effect:
But even if the bill works exactly as envisioned, the most radical environmentalists admit that it will only slow temperature increases by 2050 by a ridiculous 9/100th of one degree Fahrenheit! Even after all the costs of reducing the use of fossil fuels by 83%, that is all that would result.
The scientific HOAX is falling apart:
The latest science shows that the theory of significant man-made global warming has now been definitively proved false. The UN’s own climate models, the top source of global warming hysteria, project that if man’s emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases were causing global warming, there would be a particular pattern of temperature distribution in the atmosphere, which scientists call “the fingerprint.”
There is no such “fingerprint”, this is all a lie perpetrated by politicians and their subsidized scientific lackeys.
There are huge things at stake here in North Dakota. It is time for the political leaders to stand up and based on the scientific evidence yell, “NO, HELL NO!”

New Haven was wrong to scrap a promotion exam because no African-Americans and only two Hispanic firefighters were likely to be made lieutenants or captains based on the results, the court said Monday in a 5-4 decision. The city said that it had acted to avoid a lawsuit from minorities.
The ruling could alter employment practices nationwide and make it harder to prove discrimination when there is no evidence it was intentional.
“Fear of litigation alone cannot justify an employer’s reliance on race to the detriment of individuals who passed the examinations and qualified for promotions,” Justice Anthony Kennedy said in his opinion for the court. He was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.
While Senator Conrad is reserving judgment until after hearings, apparently the Bismarck Tribune (June 11, 2009) has the impression that:
Dorgan says he’s impressed with Sotomayor’s background and is likely to support her “unless something extraordinary comes up.”
There is an accumulation now that Sotomayor may be flawed because she is a racist. And, I do not mean racist as she hates people due to race or something, but making decisions based on racial criteria is racism by definition.

Big Coal won’t be very happy if Dr. Chu gets confirmed as head of the DOE—he’s really, really not a big fan. “Coal is my worst nightmare,” he said repeatedly in a speech earlier this year outlining his lab’s alternative-energy approaches.
In response to a friendly question from Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., Chu explained his widely distributed comment, “coal is my worst nightmare.”
I said that in the following context. If the world continues to use coal in the way that we are using it today and by the world, I mean in particular, not just the United States, but China, India, and Russia, it’s a pretty bad dream……
This quote should be considered in context regarding Dr. Chu’s view of coal as a primary energy source. The trouble is, the EPA is now in charge of CO2 and if the Waxman/Markey Climate/Energy bill that just passed the U.S. House becomes law (prevails in Senate), there is a overwhelming that it will make coal and petroleum more expensive and there is abundant evidence that environmental groups HATE coal and petroleum. And the liberal Democrats and environmental activists are in charge.
Working the rope line in Maumee, Ohio, the Senator was asked by an environmentalist why he and Mr. Obama support “clean coal.” “We’re not supporting clean coal,” Mr. Biden responded. Then, riffing on China’s breakneck construction of new coal plants, he continued, “No coal plants here in America. Build them, if they’re going to build them, over there.”
The SF Chronicle published an interview with Obama in January 2008, but omitted any references in their story to Obama’s pledge to “bankrupt” the coal industry:
Let me sort of describe my overall policy.
What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.
I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year. So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.
In the coming election season you will see and hear what millions of out-of-state campaign contributions allow to be driven into your head….and that is that Byron Dorgan is fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting for North Dakota. But when was the last time that you know of Senator Dorgan fighting the Democrat party or the environmental lobby (who provide lots of the money that will be used to remind you that Dorgan is fighting, fighting……).
Will Senator Dorgan fight, fight, fight…by making impassioned speeches, having townhall meetings, calling for investigative hearings about the devastation the cap and trade legislation will visit on his home state? Or, Will Senator Dorgan be silent about the largest tax increase on American being perpetrated by the Waxman/Markey Energy/Climate bill? Will he say nothing as legislation that will hammer the ND economy marches through the U.S. Senate? Will he then ignore his silence and claim to the ND press that he was fighting for ND by voting “NO”? Does Senator Dorgan fight mostly for the next photo-op when he hands the proverbial “giant government check” as the press offers hosannas for bringing home the pork?
And why will he not say what is becoming increasingly obvious all around the rest of the world that anthropogenic climate change is a political and media concocted myth/scam/lie? Will Senator Dorgan have the guts to really fight for ND by yelling STOP! LETS SEE THE CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE BEFORE WE REORDER OUR ENTIRE ECONOMY AND PUT OUR NATION IN ENERGY FARIY DUST HANDCUFFS?
Will Dorgan fight for North Dakota or simply roll over for Biden, Obama, Earth First, DailyKos, Al Gore, Dr. Chu, PETA, Code Pink, Cheryl Crow, …….? Follow the money. Always follow the money.
