DENNIS PATRICK: EARTH DAY – THEATER OF THE ABSURD

April 22, 2016 marks the 46th anniversary of Earth Day founded by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson and flower power liberal Ira Einhorn. In a weird twist, Einhorn was later arrested for composting his dead girlfriend. In his pre-Senate days, attorney Arlen Specter defended Einhorn until Einhorn skipped bail and fled the country to organized Earth Day overseas.

Earth Day qualifies as an urban legend through its mystical twists and grasping for facts. The biggest fallacy of radical environmentalism is the distorted view of the relation between humans and nature as if humans were excluded from nature. As often happens, a projection of human values and sentimental environmentalism onto an amoral and neutral material world creates a strange romantic view of nature. Nature-love, reinforced with selective scientific citing, creates a potent body of false knowledge.

ROBERT HALE: FAILING TO UNDERSTAND ISLAM - WEST’S FINAL FAILURE?

Islam wishes to establish a worldwide caliphate and is doing so at an alarming rate. The mass migration of Muslims to Western European countries is an invasion. The goal is to populate and eventually take political control of these countries. Such control will establish these countries under a caliphate; once established, Sharia law will be imposed.

Is this analysis far-fetched? I spent many hours in the 1980s discussing Islam and Christianity with a Saudi acquaintance, who was educated at a Jesuit university in America. He predicted precisely what is happening today. He stated that as this process occurs, we might meet again; unless I was willing to convert to Islam, it would be his duty to kill me as an infidel.

He was serious. He was not being manipulated. Rather, as he said, "This is the teaching of my faith, a teaching I take literally, and when the time comes, will live out."

DR. EARL TILFORD: “PIGASUS” FOR PRESIDENT - CHICAGO 1968 SPEAKS TO 2016

In August 1968, Democratic delegates debated two rival Vietnam policy planks in Chicago. While they debated an estimated 10,000 protestors gathered at nearby Grant Park. Millions of TV viewers watched as demonstrators faced off against platoons of police. The melee moved between Grant Park, the International Amphitheater Convention Center, and the Democratic Party headquarters in the Conrad Hilton Hotel. In this interesting article, Dr. Earl Tilford examines the events from 1968 and warns that there is a great lesson to take from 1968 and apply to 2016.

DENNIS PATRICK: JIHADISTS AND THE QURANIC TEXT

Some important Quranic verses help explain the motivation and behavior of jihadists and other Islamists. These verses are not isolated or parsed.

Congratulations to David Woods, a courageous and powerful truth teller, and his website AnsweringMuslims.com for his work in rendering in context the verses of the Quran to non-Muslims. Also of help is the Quranic Arabic Corpus (corpus.quran.com/translation.jsp), an annotated linguistic resource for the Quran. It offers seven parallel translations in English showing the morphology of verses.

What follows is a discussion about a book and what it teaches. Citing chapter and verse challenges the claim that Islam is a “religion of peace” as purported.

ROBERT HALE: SCOTUS - AN ACRONYM LIKELY TO GO DOWN IN INFAMY
MINOT, ND -- The Supreme Court of the United States is often referred to as SCOTUS. SCOTUS seems determined to make itself the institution that single-handedly destroys what has been the greatest nation on earth.

For more than 200 years, America did not have these types of problems. Why? Because we did not have a Supreme Court that allowed the government to exceed its limited authority. Only now do we have Justices who arrogantly take legislation brought before the Court and blatantly rewrite it to mean what Congress specifically said it did not mean.

DR. TRACY MILLER: BUDGET MESS IN PENNSYLVANIA

Pennsylvania went nearly nine months without a budget. Many agencies that depend on state funds suffered during the stalemate and some public schools were forced to eliminate programs or seek loans to pay the bills. As soon as the 2015-16 budget became law it was time to begin work on the 2016-17 budget. In this interesting article, Dr. Tracy Miller examines the fiscal shape of the state and warns that “coming up with a budget that is balanced and politically acceptable to the Republican legislature and the Democratic governor may be even more difficult this year.”

In this interesting article, Dr. Paul Kengor looks at recent examples of Donald Trump’s disparaging comments directed at women and argues that Trump’s true temperament has been on display all along.

SELWYN DUKE: IF BAKERS CAN BE FORCED TO SERVICE FAUX WEDDINGS, SO CAN CHURCHES

As our Great Sexual Heresy continues its march onwards and downwards, state governments have forced bakers, wedding planners, florists and other businessmen to service faux weddings. This is unprecedented, as never before were Americans governmentally compelled to participate in events they found morally objectionable. Yet when some project out on our cultural trajectory and say churches one day will be subject to the same coercion, they’re met with laughter; this will never, ever happen, they’re told. Yet this is an illogical and inconsistent position.

There have been many questions regarding the net worth of Donald Trump since he announced that he was seeking the Republican nomination for president. DENNIS PATRICK: AN EASTER POSTLUDE

Looking beyond Easter’s jellybeans, peeps and bunnies portends something far more profound to contemplate. One of the oldest poems in the English language brings out the overwhelming significance of Easter beyond our contemporary one day celebration. “The Dream of the Rood,” author unknown, was written sometime near the end of the 7th century. This poem pre-dates “Beowulf” by at least 100 hundred years and follows Saint Patrick’s visit to Ireland by some 200 years.

JOSEPH SOBRAN: HAPPY EASTER ATHEISTS!

[Classic: April 5, 2007] -- It's nearly Easter, and the atheists, God bless them, are writing bestselling books to prove the good Lord's nonexistence. Truly, they have their reward.

ONe of the most famous of them, a British professor named Richard Dawkins, says atheists are generally smarter than Christians. I wouldn't doubt it.

After all, St. Paul says God has chosen the foolish people of this world to confound the wise. I don't know how many times some simple soul has put me to shame when I thought I was being clever. Oops! Maybe polished professors never have this experience.

Of course atheists are clever! People who spend a lot of time justifying themselves generally are. If you devote your waking hours to seeking reasons not to believe, you'll find plenty of them. Darwin sold a lot of books to clever people like that.

DENNIS PATRICK: THE CULTURAL DENIGRATION OF MASCULINITY

Confronting the wussifiers requires a stick in the eye to a culture stacked against boys. Parents must challenge boys to handle anything thrown their way. The boys’ challenge is to make things more orderly, more beautiful, more prosperous. Boys must be lifted through their testosterone fog and instilled with a sense of masculine responsibility. Parents must not condone boys acting like Neanderthals but must train them to be mannered gentlemen. Boys are not to abuse, mishandle, abandon, ignore, avoid, mistreat or neglect that for which they are responsible. They must be taught a sense of self-discipline to behave honorably as if there were no government, court, church or school. Parents must teach boys to aspire to be providers and defenders of the family. Boys must not seek to be led by females when their male instincts tell them the opposite.

SELWYN DUKE: DEATH OF AMERICA - PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION NOT THAT IMPORTANT

This is why none of our “solutions” will solve anything. We can talk about Ted Cruz and constitutionalism. But was John Adams a fool when warning in 1798, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other”? We are now the “other.”

We can echo Donald Trump echoing Ronald Reagan and say “Make America great again!” But as an apocryphal quotation oft repeated by Reagan goes, “America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.”

DR. GARY S. SMITH: EXPLAINING THE MYSTIQUE OF DONALD TRUMP

I am not arguing that Trump should be compared with Hitler, only that the some of the conditions that existed in the 1930s that led Germans to support Hitler exist in America today and prompt people to back Trump. These prescient books help explain why Trump’s mystique seems to be tarnished so little by his vulgar and outlandish behavior and why his momentum seems so difficult to halt despite the concerted efforts of many Republican leaders.

DENNIS PATRICK: MAKE MARCH SCOTS-IRISH HERITAGE MONTH

A common understanding of who the Scots-Irish were has essentially been lost in today’s politically correct society. They are an all-but-invisible ethnic group whose story cries out to be told. “Born Fighting” fills that gap though it may not play well in some ethnic circles. Although Webb is certainly opinionated, that does not detract from his factual accuracy.

“Born Fighting” is a must read for anyone seeking a sober understanding of American history in general and the history of an ethnic group of men and women in particular who shaped it. Because of their great contributions to America, March should be celebrated as Scots-Irish Heritage Month.

DR. EARL TILFORD: WHO LOST IRAQ?

In this heated presidential campaign season much time has been spent debating the ongoing concern of the rise of ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Often, the discussions focus on the question: Who lost Iraq? In this interesting article, Dr. Earl Tilford argues that the wrong question is being asked and that by focusing on the Iraq War we are losing sight of what is really happening in the Middle East today: the birth of an Iranian-Russian “axis."

DENNIS PATRICK: REPUBLICAN DEMISE

A serious phenomenon, not unexpected, dominates this presidential campaign season. No, it is not Donald Trump. He is only the symptom of a much deeper problem.

The open rebellion of voters against the Republican Party, and to a different extent against the Democrat Party, prevails. Whether the party bosses are called the “establishment” or “the ruling class” or “the elite,” those who control the levers of power and attempt to manipulate the voters are now being called to account for their behavior. In particular, the elected officials, political consultants, lobbyists and “donor class” are not doing a very good job. Thus, the insurrection.

DENNIS PATRICK: REPUBLICAN CONGRESS BETRAYS VOTERS

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) put it rather nicely. “There is a reason that GOP voters are in open rebellion. They have come to believe that their party’s elites are…openly hostile to them.”

There is an appropriate term for voters who elected a Republican majority to the US House and Senate in 2010 and 2014 expecting congressmen and senators to straighten out the mess in Washington.

Those voters were swindled.
