DENNIS PATRICK: MUCH ADO ABOUT THE REGULATION STRANGLE

Expansion of regulations by federal agencies equates to a vast increase in the size of government. Every time you hear a radio or TV commercial paid for by a federal agency (HHS, USDA, FBI) you are witnessing the subtle indoctrination of the general public -- funded by the general public -- suggesting all solutions to life’s problems come from expansive government.

CHUCK ROGÉR: BEHOLD THE AUDACITY OF DISHONESTY: BIPARTISAN BIOFUEL INSANITY

Not only are there no "vehicle efficiency gains" due adding biofuel to gasoline, but in fact ethanol reduces fuel mileage, damages the environment, results in the release of even more CO2 than the burning of pure fossil fuels, and may even damage car engines.

Our senators know about these facts. That's what makes their desire to push biofuels on Americans dishonest, even malicious. Furthermore, biofuel production is eating up food crop capacity at such a high rate that worldwide poverty and hunger are increasing as a result of food shortages. That this particular information is so well-documented makes the senators' push for yet more biofuel production (which we'll see shortly) not just dumb, but flat-out despicable.

SELWYN DUKE: YOU CAN TOUCH MY JUNK, BUT NOTHING ELSE

While the Online Etymology Dictionary doesn’t yet have an entry for this junky usage of “junk,” I’m guessing it was originated by a young man.  And men are certainly the ones who most use it. I also don’t expect men to do much about it.  You could say that my sex rolls with the punches, that we really will take these things “like a man.”  Then again, you could also say that many of us have been feminized to the point where we’re ineffectual doormats.  This is why we’ll listen to blather about “racial profiling” without ever pointing out that men are profiled six ways to Sunday and that what’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.  And nothing will change until we junk the politically correct junk and stop acting like capons.

THOMAS F. ROESER: BENEDICT’S CONDOM REMARK DOES NOT CONTRADICTED AN ARTICLE OF FAITH

Joy among militant secularists and enemies of authentic Catholicism knew no bounds on Monday as a loosely structured remark by Benedict XVI, brimming with particularized theological meaning, was released by a rebellious, out-of-control L'Osservatore Romano and then bobbled by the laughingly inept Vatican press office. This started an heretical conflagration that rages worldwide, with liberals seeing it as evolving into a repudiation of Church opposition to artificial contraception that stems from the 1st century A.D.

DR. PAUL KENGOR: DECISION POINT: GEORGE W. BUSH’S PRO-LIFE PATH

It was the mid-1960s. With his father out of town on business, a teenage George W. Bush, the oldest child in the family, and the first with a driver’s license, quickly drove his mother to the hospital. She had just had a miscarriage. George W. Bush has told that much before in his new book, however, he continues the conversation, albeit very briefly. He adds that one thing he didn’t expect to see during this ordeal was the remains of the fetus. Bush writes: ‘I remember thinking: There was a human life, a little brother or sister.’

“George W. Bush was our best pro-life president, hands down.” Citing a few examples to support his assessment, Dr. Kengor concedes, “As someone who wrote a biography of Bush, I had known only half the story.”

SELWYN DUKE: PROFILE MUSLIMS OR PAT DOWN THE MASSES?

The profile here is very specific, as it’s a rare person who will sacrifice his life to destroy an airplane.  Protestants aren’t doing that.  Catholics aren’t doing it.  Nor are Buddhists, Taoists, Zoroastrians or Hare Krishna.  In our age, this is a method of people who 100 percent of the time are Muslim jihadists and 99 percent of the time are non-white.  And only the idiotic — or the suicidal — ignore such correlation.

CHUCK ROGÉR: HANDCUFFING THE PROGRESSIVE AGENDA

Can actions be illegal if performed by one party but legal if preformed by another? Yes. Government routinely executes certain actions which draw no attention from law enforcement, but those same actions executed by an individual draw the full wrath of that very same government.

More and more, we have become a nation with government of the people, by the ruling class, for the corporate donors. We must arrest the trend. Yet I will believe that the arrest has occurred only when I see the handcuffs on the progressive agenda.

This legislative session must be one in which the people are heard…I challenge each and every one of you out in the vast regions of our state to get involved, get in the car or pickup, and get to Bismarck this session…we need your voices to deliver conservative messages on many issues during the first months of 2011. CHUCK ROGÉR: BARACK OBAMA - PRETENDER TO BRILLIANCE

Mr. Obama really does believe that he has initiated a wondrous time in America. He believes that we, the clingers to guns and religion, are just far too simple to grasp the gift of human progress that he and his nanny government have bestowed on us.

The Rousseaus, Shellys, and Tolstoys lived out-of-control lives characterized by moral and sexual degeneracy. But each man possessed a world class mind. Obama pretends to the trappings of brilliance, with none of the actual brilliance. But Obama does share the classical philosophers' penchant for dishonesty. Obama lies. Repeatedly. And about the most important things.

DR. MARK W. HENDRICKSON: DEAD MAN WALKING - DEALING WITH DEFLATION

Economically speaking, inflation is like heroin addiction. The ‘highs’ are enjoyable, even exhilarating, when bubbles inflate and the good times roll—but underneath the surface, the health of the system is wasting away. Just as the addict has to suffer the wrenching pains of withdrawal in order to recover his physical health, so our economy needs to endure the short-term pain of a deflation in order to purge decades’ worth of malinvestments, uneconomic patterns of production, and unfathomably massive amounts of unpayable debts.

We must distinguish between benign deflation and traumatic deflation. The U.S. economy is a dead man walking—a zombie on life support, if we don’t bite the proverbial bullet and go through a painful cleansing, a healing period of deflation, the ultimate price we pay will be even worse. Like the heroin addict who can’t kick his habit and eventually overdoses, someday the Fed will go too far in its inflationary policies. It will ignite a hyperinflation, thereby annihilating the dollar, wiping out the country’s capital—not to mention, the savings of the middle class—and totally collapsing the economy.

When you read this, the November elections will probably be over. If they are, the die has been cast; if they are not, please cast your vote for a return to a representative republic, and not an illusionary utopia run by professional politicians who have. It is still incredible to me that anyone in North Dakota could still harbor the delusion that these three stooges we have in Congress even remotely represent ND values and wishes.  Byron Dorgan, always the most astute of the three, already “abandoned ship,” of course taking his re-election war chest with him. Earl, after being one of Madame Pelosi’s “yes, mama” boys, now pretends to “attack” her.

Maybe that’s why I get a lump in my throat when someone too young or too imperceptive to remember those charged and turbulent times says, “Thank you for your service.” If only they knew how much that meant.

Obama is an ideologue -- and a man addicted to demonizing his opponents. So the president will play ugly games with a recharged GOP. He will agree to extend the Bush tax cuts. But the left-winger will cling to left-wing dogma and choose ever sneakier routes that will burden American business. The ideologue and his czars and agency bosses will try to circumvent Congress and the Constitution to bring about state-controlled capitalism.

JON BASIL UTLEY: HOW THE EPA CRIPPLES THE AMERICAN ECONOMY

President Barack Obama seems more concerned with appeasing environmental extremists in his administration than he is with the lost jobs of poor Americans. He's letting the environmentalists run wild with long pent-up schemes to force a change in the American way of life that includes small cars, small apartments and, for many, a return to an idealized 19th century lifestyle. It's not China that's responsible for American job losses; it's Washington's fault for shutting down whole industries and preventing new jobs from being created.

The National Committee on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform (Debt Commission) has issued its “Draft Co-Chairs Proposal”. The document reveals the Debt Commission’s bias toward “establishment politicians”. While this initial effort is important to begin the dialogue, it does not factor in the current mood of our country toward real fiscal reform.

We are closer than we think to solving our nation’s debt problems; now the powers in Washington need only to acknowledge the Tea Party message on the commission and get the job done to benefit the taxpayers, not special interests from both sides of the isle.
